Police: Man faked 'winning' ticket

There are 107 comments on the Lowell Sun story from Mar 4, 2010, titled Police: Man faked 'winning' ticket. In it, Lowell Sun reports that:

The $400 winning scratch ticket seemed a bit suspicious from the get-go. Maybe it was the losing number that was completely rubbed out of the $2 "30 Grand" ticket.

I'm still waiting for the coward named IRS (today) who called me dishonest to come back. What's the matter, big man behind the computer but afraid to admit you were out of line. Again folks, these are your neighbors....what a sad world we live in. They hide behind their computers and make accusations, they live in our neighborhoods, we should trust our neighbors but no, sadly they are not adult enough to stand up and admit they were wrong.

It's really sad when the integrity of another comes into question, cheap shots at someone who takes pride in his word and honor. I'm calling him out here and now, we'll see if he has equal integrity or is just another example of what's lacking in our society. Accountability, then attacked my character then ran and hide. Put your money where your mouth is.

Obviously Rad, I hit a nerve with you! The only reason you are getting so upset and name calling is to hide your guilt for the scam that you are involoved in. Hopefully this will help you see the light and do the right thing. Time to "man up" there boy!

Hey Rad - Correct me if I'm wrong, but your ad says that you would sell the ticket for $2,000 and that the purchaser would have to assume the tax payment on the winning ticket. Where does it say that YOU will pay the taxes on the $2,000 you are getting from the purchaser? Can you spell Scamorama!

can you say liable, if I sell the ticket to someone they assume the taxes, no one gets cheated and the irs gets their money. If I dont claim the money I received on my taxes as required by tax laws then you can say scamorama. But the law does not allow you to anticipate a breach of the law, you must break the law first. If I sell the ticket and if it were required by law that I did pay taxes on that money I will not have broken the law until 4/15/2011...is that not correct. Do you know what I have to claim, do you know what my income is and do you understand the concept of selling something at a loss? Have you ever sold a car for over 2k? Did you claim that as income.

However the law may not require me to claim that money as income because that's what I would do. I would not pay taxes on that money, instead I would pay taxes on my entire income for that year which you might believe the winnings is a part of. Are you a tax agent? Tell me, if you give me 10 thousand dollars as a gift do I have to claim that?

You questioned my honesty, you said I was no better than the scammer and you are wrong and can't even back it up. You're damn right I take that seriously and you hit a nerve because I pride myself in my honor.

Apparently you would rather defend being wrong than apologize for offending another human being. Sorry you still owe me an apology, for anticipating my being dishonest long before I would have a chance to be. You have no right to publicly defame me and in this case it might cause someone to not buy the ticket legally, causing me damages that I can come after you for.

Did you think about that? No. You sir are completely wrong and again if you think I'm cheating the system please respond to my ad and I will give you my name to report. Of course you do so at your own peril, you could get sued.

Never question one's honesty if you dont know that you're right...do you know you are right?

here's what I find by googling it, if it's illegal I can't find it http://www.google.com/search...

Please remember my first call was to the lottery and the man in charge, I can prove that...I'm still expecting an apology for questioning my honesty...man up

for IRS, I believe I understand where the confusion lies between us and thus you're making statements that could be libel.

My scenario is already well stated and understood so let's take the scenario in which you would be correct, which is fraud.

People pay other people to cash in lottery tickets for them to stop the irs from deducting debt etc and for the purpose of avoiding taxes. That is illegal and as bad as the jerk this thread about (something else you called me), it's fraud.

If you take off the blinders and stop trying to prove I'm dishonest and listen I'll explain the point you are missing.

If I sell the ticket and all the rights to it, it's not fraud. Someone is not going in, cashing in the trip for me and then giving me the trip back, it's their's and I get no benefit from it except for what I sold it for.

If I win 10k (which I did in 05, claimed in my name so they took taxes) and pay someone to cash it in so the money is not in my name but I get most of it that is fraud. People on ssi do this, those who owe judgments do this, people on foodstamps do this.

The difference is clear, there is no misrepresentation, the thing speaks for itself. Say I win a lottery ticket for 1000 dollars and give it to a friend because I owe them money is that fraud against anyone including the irs? No. Worse yet you accuse of doing something that hasn't been done yet. For instance imagine the police knocking on your door and arresting you for a bank robbery in August of 2010 because they think you are going to. Absurd huh?

I take your accusations seriously and there are ways to track posters required to be in place by the law. These laws are sure to get stricter because of cyber bully laws that will come up. It doesn't matter what name you post under, you come up as the same person. That means if you that makes a person, agency, government or business look negative that is not true you could be sued. The statement has to be stated as fact, which you have done more than once.

You've called me a criminal, a scammer and dishonest as a matter of fact. You are wrong and I ask as one man to another you apologize for doing so, it's the right thing to do. You speak of manning up, if next April you can show I am lying now, I will surely apologize and be disgraced.

If I took this trip with my disability it would be fraud, that's not playing the sympathy card. That's called obeying the law and doing the right thing. Got it yet?

If not explain why there are agencies that buy lottery winnings? We contacted one and like any other business they just want to low ball us.

<quoted text>
that wasn't in response to you, when another person calls me dishonest it has nothing to do with my disability it has to with honor. Not enough people today take pride in their honor, for me it's something I cherish and spent 50 years building.

I'm on the fence about telling you what my disability is because you seem to see it proper to already prejudge me but I will. I have PTSD and several other anxiety disorders, I'm a virtual shut in because of it. I could list out all of the diagnosis from the VA but I dont feel like dragging out the paperwork and typing out two mile long words that come down to that small things cause me more anxiety than most people, it takes me longer to idle back down than most people.

Sorry to disappoint you, I'm not bi-polar like you were thinking (which is just what use to be called manic depressive) though a form of depression called dysthymia is a part of my PTSD.

However my disability only applies to anything in this thread because it's why I cant take the trip. Traveling via flights and dealing with the stress of airports these days is out of the question. Large crowds create stress levels that are literally life threatening to me.

However, make no mistake about it...it has nothing to do with intelligence. Any negative reaction in this thread is simply because I believe it's wrong to assume that someone is dishonest and wrong to be a coward behind a computer screen (not you) making intentional attempts at offending people like Mr. IRS.

People should take my comments about law suits far more seriously, in a matter of years or even months laws will be passed that make you responsible for what you say online, both civilly and criminally.

Technology equals technology squared, technology is growing faster than our ability to protect ourselves from it. You made no absolute statements of fact but IRS did indeed and as you see I have been able to prove him wrong yet in his own words he can't "man up".

FWIW if I wanted or intended to sue anyone it would be the lottery for discrimination and fraud (but in small claims court).

http://www.masslottery.com/games/igodds/Ultim...

That is the prize payout page for the ticket I have, note it states clearly that the way to win is the trip but the prize is $2675.00. I wish I could just claim that and be done with it.

this is an example of pure disrespect for yourself and others, take a look in the mirror. Why do you feel the need to look down on people and make trashy comments like this? What is so lacking from your life that makes you think you can look down on others? You look the fool sir, not him. Next time you pass the homeless shelter think about how many of those people are there that served our nation in 'namn. Are you old enough to remember how our soldiers were treated when returning home?

They had to come home under the cloak of darkness because of hateful comments like yours. Just so you know, PTSD is serious and we are mass producing patients with this war, really victims is a better word. It would be nice if people could try a little understanding instead of sitting back and judging others.

Keep your house clean and stop thinking you can tell others what to do, also keep in mind these words I use so often "those beneath cannot offend me and those my equal never would".

Good luck with your issues, they're going to come full circle and bite you right in the arse.

Also please take note that every response to you has been respectful and perhaps you could learn something from that. Have a nice day (sorry FR for stealing your catch phrase)

I appreciate your supportive words but I assure you that there are fine citizens on this board. The ones making such comments are not mentally unstable or homeless, they are indeed just weak and cowards. Putting the plight of the homeless and mentally ill in a negative light only exacerbates the problem. Please do not fall into that trap.

I do not take advise from here as you might think, I thoroughly researched my options, I know I'm in the right and it's more likely the trolls are just jealous I won something.
