This lady should be charged with involuntary manslaughter and lose her license forever. How the heck do you miss the big flashing sign that states BDL is closed and then proceed to drive halfway on the BDL. They made the move over law for a reason. She was probably on her cell phone or putting on make up. She ruined Christmas for a bunch of people.

Let's hope that the cause was a medical condition and not someone just being careless. This is terrible. My thoughts go out to these families.

I wonder if her mobile phone record has been checked out, to find out if she was using it at the moment of accident. Unless, of course, there was DUI involved. It's very hard to miss the signals on highway.

Another lame police detail... the detail should be placed as to minimize the chances of this type of tragedy. Why are they there?$$$ They sit in their cars doing nothing. My heart goes out to these families.

You know I keep saying it, I say it to my kids, I say it to my co-workers, family, friends, this thread and whoever else wants to listen...
PEOPLE DRIVE TO DAMN FAST AND THEY DON'T GIVE ENOUGH CONSIDERATION OR ANY EDGE WHATSOEVER FOR ANY LITTLE INCIDENT THAT COULD BE AVOIDED ON THAT HIGHWAY, EVERYONE IS ON TOP OF EVERYBODY ELSE ALL IN A F'N HURRY AND NOT PAYING ANY ATTENTION EITHER! THERE SHOULD BE MORE STATE TROOPERS VISIBLE ON THAT HIGHWAY ESPECIALLY THE HIGH TRAFFIC ONES.

You're right Bulldog....driving with her elbows and 2 thumbs on the phone.

Looks like no enforcement of the "Move Over Law" either.

How about the disrespect for the poor guy killed....lay there with a blue tarp over you and surrounded by orange cones....Mass spent a lot of money several years ago for special portable baracades to for that purpose...keep the gawkers away.

Hey mis informed the police detail was thier . the two guys struck were setting up to pick up one of the dumpters Duh
The detail was in the BDL and about fifty feet back so as the truck backs into position to pick up the dumpter. Know what your talking about before your knee jerk comments .
This is exactly what the move over law was created for . She shouldnt have even been in the slow lane never mind strattling the breakdown lane. And what would the state cop have done if he was out of his cruiser? shoot her?

It is a horrible tragedy, and she may have been speeding or on a cell phone- but that area was VERY POORLY marked. Over the past week I've commented every time I've driven by that something bad could happen. The sign was too close to the work area- and posed more of a distraction than a warning. BDL closed didn't mean much to most people until they actually passed the area and realized it had meant Break Down Lane closed. More should have been done to protect those workers.

Regardless of who or what caused it, she had to have been going more than the speed limit on an ON RAMP to sever a guys leg, kill the other guy, and demolish and flatten tires on a Peterbilt Truck, through a WORK AREA. Or in other words "pretty damned fast". If she is RICH she will walk away with a free get out of jail card. But if she is POOR, she will do 3-5 years. Thats the American WAY..

Who are you the judge & jury? You have no idea what happened, but yet you go speculating and accusing. Did it ever dawn on you that maybe she had a medical condition, passed out or had a heart attack? Geez, will you stop judging people without knowing all the facts first? Its people like YOU that make this world a dangerous place!

terrible accident - I drove by there just before it happened. Flashing sign warning of breakdown lane, etc. She couldn't have been paying attention. I wonder if they will check her cell phone/texting records to see if she was on the phone. How could you not see that on the side of the road - large containers, truck, police, etc.
Felt terrible for those trapped on highway for 3 hours. no food/water.
