Unreal but the city had 150,000 to give to make a water dragon statue and some lights in a park known for gang activity. This city needs to manage their finances better.

It is wonderful that so many people have contributed to this fund. However, I find it pathetic, that the City does not have enough money in the budget to fund keeping all public pools open. These pools are generally used by those that are least able to belong to private clubs or have access to beaches.

For the City Manager to hope to obtain more private funding and a City Councilor to beg that her employee (The Manager) can find $5,000 in the budget is pathetic!

I FIND THIS INTERESTING. THERE IS $150,000 TO PUT IN A NEW PARK AND THE CITY CAN'T AFFORD TO OPEN THE CITY POOLS. THIS IS A NO BRAINER. OPEN ALL THE POOLS AND PUT THE NEW PARK ON THE BACK BURNER FOR THIS YEAR. THE CHILDREN NEED SOMEPLACE TO PLAY!!!!

Hey Dam Bam!
Not everyone that goes to Shed Park are immigrants or welfare recipients. I happen to live around the area and a tax payer. For my children and I we deserve to have a water park to go to instead of having to drive to the beach. Honestly, this is not much to ask from a "tax payer". The least these city employee can do to give us "tax payers" incentives is to provide a place for the kids to cool off.

I took my children to the city pool last summer only one time. My boy woke up the next morning feeling sick to his stomach and a bad migraine headache. I took him to the doctor and the he said my son developed ring worm by swimming in the pool. He was only in the pool for 10 minutes!

I say close all the pools and people will not get sick or drown. How can one lifeguard watch over 50 kids in the water? And you know most of these children who go to the pools don't even know how to swim. Cities pools are a tragedy waiting to happen.

I hope the pools stay open all summer. I think it's sad the city can't find 5k for it to happen. I mean they can (give 145k) to the horrible old Washington Park.
But Rita, opening the pools doesn't keep kids safe or off the streets, the punks are too cool to go to the pools and they'll still be getting into trouble no matter what. Not too many gangbangers wake up and say "Do I go for a dip or get into trouble today"

I remember going to these pools when I was a kid. If I went with 10 friends, I would guess 7 people urinated in the pool. I remember walking back to our apartments laughing the whole time. We even put a baby ruth in the pool one time.

I love the good old days.

Your a jerk!I cannot go to the beach because I work so much so atleast i can bring my kids to swim for a little at the pool. Not all of us can afford to have a house with a huge yard to include a pool. The kids are getting less and less and I think it is so sad. Just because some kids parents may be on welfare but that is not their fault.

I think the city can find the money, and should find it to remain open. Its a month and a half of the pools being open. They open in late june and close in August. Have all the Politicians fund it. Divide the 5K by the city councilors and mayor etc and their is your money...

Why don't they just charge a small fee to use the pool. Say 50 cents a week. They would make up the 5K in no time.

Max, my thoughts exactly..You beat me to it. They want to charge residents for having a yard sale's in their own back yards, so charge to use public pools...50 cents or a dollar all day....party \o/\o/
