It seems that the Lowell Sun is politically correct in printing all these articles, not being fair to all the pitbulls who are not violent, who are loving pets.. I am the proud owner of an 18 month old red nose pitbull,I also have a 4 year old cat Baby
I walk my dog every day in Lowell and am saddened by the way some people are so very frighted of my dog. Itreat themkindly, even when I am treated rudely.
I understand the need for the police to maintain order in our city, yet lately I have been stopped twice while I was just walking my dog. I am grateful that Grace is liscenced and up to date on her shots, because if she wasn't I am sure the policemen that stopped us would have taken some sort of disciplinary action against me.
I naver see them checking the little obnoxious ankle biters that have literally attack Grace, she did not even bark at them when this happened. The owners of these animals do NOT even apologize for their dogs behavior, RUDE people, no manners, just like their DOGS...It has happened at the dog park the only place where Grace can run off her leash.
I am a PROUD woman to be allowed the honor of having Grace in my life,I treat her with the love and respect all animals deserve.I also set limits for her, teaching her with kindness and stregthn as I train her.
On June 14,2011 there is going to be another meeting with the city counsel to decide iF all pitbulls,or dogs that even resemble a pitbull should be mandated to wear muzzles off their poperty. I encourage ALL pitbull owners and the people who LOVE them to come to this meeting.
With all the media coverage of the recent pitbull attacks in this city,it is causing alot of fear, even terror in the hearts of people.
The City counsel stated publically that the Lowell Humane Society had claases that would allow people to not place the muzzles on their pets. It was in the LowellSun. That isnot the fact, they do not have these kinds of classes available at the Humane Society.
I am sickened to think that my Grace,my pet, would be mandated to wear a muzzle in public.I fear it might actually make her angry and confuse her, make her feel like she was being punished..How would you feel if you were muzzled? It's like having yor mouth wired shut,I had 4 surgeries on my jaw and was wired shut shut twice for 6 weeks,it was NO fun.
I would like to see them try to do this to all breds, there would bea huge public out cry with animal activists getting involved. What about their responsible people of the ankle biters, the little dogs who bark constantly and nip at anything that moves? Why aren't the police policing them? Checking their dog tags? Telling them to control their dogs,to clean up after them,to make them follow the lawsregarding dogs in this city.
The last I knew I lived in a free society, not comunist Russia or China. Now when I walk Grace I am intimidated by the police and the people who look at Grace like she is a monster.I must say thank you to all the people who are supportive of her, comment on her beauty and stop to pet her.Thank you !!!
I hope that someone in the city leadership reads this and thinks of the great dogs that are in our city, who Do Nnot act agressively, even when attacked. That the law is enforced that all dogs are liscensed and have their Rabies vaccine. That the owners of the mean little dogs are made put muzzles on their dog to prevent their bad and dangerous behavior. If my Grace bit back she would be put down. How unfair is that.I am so glad that she doesn't bite them,it would sicken me. It would literally break my heart to lose my dog Grace.
This situation is a difficult one for me too.Like I said earlier I am sad about the trauma and pain that has recently happened in our city.I don't want my dog to be changed by putting a muzzle on her.
If you think pitbulls look mean now, place a muzzle on them and that will make them look even more intimidating.

I wish the Lowell Sun would come spend some time with my Pit, she is so fun, playfull and timid.... Each generation has the "killer dog" remember when it was Doberman Pinchers, then Rotwielers, now Pit.... just wait it will pass... mean while dont get a dog unless you can commit the same amount the time and energy of having a child.

Wow! Never had my eyes bleed from trying to read such a Mongolian cluster#!@#$ of a post before yours.

Nevermind the breed itself. Own one if you wish, but CONTROL the damn things! That's all that we, the public ask. Do not come on here and tell us about how sweet and polite YOUR pit is. WE DON'T CARE! The public does not care that YOURS is good. We care about the ones who are not, and the idiots that do not look after them.

Complain about ankle biters all you want people, but they are not mauling people, Pits are. Don't like it? Don't read the news. For the love of Pete though, PLEASE stop coming on these forums after a story of a pit attack surfaces, and tell us how sweet your pit bulls are. No one cares. Not the victims attacked, not the animal control officer, not the police, and certainly not us morons who are reading these forums.

for all the comments on here replying to this post. you are rude and closed minded. I was attacked by a border collie and bitten in the throat. I don't hate them. I was bitten on the leg by a rotty ((my fault) as a teen. I did not hate them. I agree with somethings and some things i do not. It is not fair to some with what other do. It's like getting charged with murder because the guy down the street killed someone and you happen to have the last name. So everyone with the last name gets indicted. Maybe if owners themselves we faced with heavier punishment that were strict then we wouldn't have so many problems. I do agree, some morons do not have a right to own a goldfish much less a bully breed. But with right education and the public and communities help we can stop this. We can report animal abuse. We can help teach responsibilities to those who do not know. Place your animals is a family who has been home checked, references, mandatory training classes and mandatory spays to prevent idiots from backyard breeding. Also parents out there, teach your child to respect animals. Poking and prodding is unwanted. Running up into the face of ANY dog is ridiculous. If me bringing my dog around you makes you watch your children better, then please thank my dog for making you a better parent. Most attacks to children happen when the dog is alone with a child. Stop being ignorant people and watch what you have. I trust my dog completely and have raised my children to respect any living creature and their elders. Do the same with yours. Do you think muzzles are going to stop? Do bucking bulls stop jumping when their nuts are tied up? No it pisses them off more. What do you think a muzzle will do? What breed will be next? And I do agree with the OP about little dogs. How do you think I feel when you allow your dog to run up to mine while walking up the street? How do I know he wont bite my ankle or nip at my dog? If an angry German shepherd attacks my dog out of nowhere while walking down the street, who will be blamed? My dog. Please, this world needs to be less closed minded. I invite anyone of you to come meet my dog. By the time you leave, you will leave with one less chip off your shoulder and a cleaner face. Don't judge my pit and I wont judge your kids or your parenting style.

Hey Heidi,

I'll judge your pit all I want. My kids don't end up on the news for mauling people to death. My parenting style did not maul people either, a pitbull did. Simple thing. Muzzle it, or leave it at home. Not all pits are bad, but the public does not care anymore, and that means people with GOOD pits get lumped in with the ad ones. If you don't like it, but a yorkie or a pom.

Show me where Pomeranians leave people in critical condition. Show me where Pomeranians have killed. Sorry, but to come here and compare Pomeranians to Pit bulls is outright ignorant.

The UK just passed legislation stoping pitbulls from being brought into the country and Maryland's landmark ruling declared pitbulls innately dangerous and made owners and LANDLORDS liable for pitbull attacks in civil suits on the first bite, as they declared that owners should know the dogs are dangerous.
LEASHED pitbulls have severely injured joggers. People who care about others don't own pitbulls and gamble that their pitbull will not be one that turns on a dime and suddenly expresses its hidden fighting genes. Pitbulls were bred to be exdeptionally strong, aggressive, and tenacious in a fight and to have a short snout so they can keep breathing during a fight without stopping, and they were bred to have fewer pain receptors. Strong, athletic men cannot stop a pitbull from killing them. LOOK at this. A pitbull owner ADMITS his dog is wacko and makes no excuses for its attack. Unfortunately he learned the hard way that pitbulls are not normal : http://www.victoriaadvocate.com/news/2012/may...
Lets remember the victims of pitbull attacks and the families they have left behind like the deceased veteran killed by pitbulls in his yard . http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/197219/19/El... court ruling is sound. Your first "bite" by a pitbull may take your life. Mortality, Maiming and Mauling by Vicious Dogs, Annals of Surgery, April 2011, found that you have a more than 2500 times hgher chance of dying if attacked by a pitbull instead of a Lab. That is HUGE. Pitbulls don't bite, they maul. Our laws were designed for dogs that bite and release. Pitbulls hold on and shred their victims often removing limbs. Pitbulls have killed more people than all other breeds combined. Denial won't change the facts or protect you. Remember Darla Napora? This program talks about the court rulings and the pitbull problem and will have Alexandra Semyonova on later this week. This Animal Behaviorist gives the straight facts on pitbulls http://pitbulldangers.net/radio.htm
Muzzling is not even enough as pitbulls that get loose attack and pitbulls manage to get loose more than other dogs as they can jump fences as high as 8 feet. Pitbull victims face hospital charges that often exceed 1 million dollars. Ban the breed, don't accept the deed. Stop sacrificing humans in 2012 A,D, this false idol. It was bred for evil and evil begets evil.

Another thought, the UK also has socialized medicine, where the doctors get to decide who is deserving of what treatment, if you are over a certain age, and its not old, you are no longer eligible for certain treatments.... YES LETS FOLLOW THERE LEAD...
