I've been following a case in Lea County for over a year now. Since I have I've read about some unethical behavior, as well as illegal activities by some of the employees and LE Officers from Lea County.

Off the top of my head there is the LE Officer that killed his father, the officer that committed suicide, and the Deputy Sheriff that molested children.

From what I've heard, and read, there is a lot of police corruption in Lea County.

What is your opinion, or an example to support this allegation?

Wasn't it the Sheriff that committed suicide?

Hello folks my name is Shawn cotton and I just want to say to those who know me I have one goal and that is to get my family to accept, realize, and forgive. Now for those of you who will criticize this post big woop I don't care I want to speak directly to two people my mom and my sister. Sis there comes a time in life when things get crappy but remember where you came from and how its made you the person you are today. And mom without you none of your children or grandchildren would be here today even though you feel like you can't connect with any of us we are here because of you. Now a message be bigger than the situation because I don't want to wait the rest of your lives or mine to have my family in the same place at the same time I want to laugh, cry, love, and live please lets find a way to be a family stop talking all that mess and start the healing process

Sheriff committed suicide:

X Lovington cop charged with murdering his father:

Then this child molestation case involves TWO LE Officers from Lea County.

I'm just wondering what sort of people are hired in Lea County.

I figured you were talking about my husband. Please keep this situation out of your mouth. We have enough people that are negative and bias we don't need anyone else doing it. If memory serves me right you had wrote this on his Topix page:
God Bless this family. Domestic abuse is nothing but heartbreak for everyone involved.

Yes, I did write that, and I meant it.

The fact that I have empathy and compassion for your family, has nothing to do with my questions regarding the ethics of the Lea County Sheriff's Dept.

I thought I would put my 2 cents about the LCSD
It's not only the LCSD that is corrupt- its the lawyers, judges, local PD, and some of the NMSP- let's don't forget about the young lady that worked at all ups. And the other young lady who worked at Beals everyone knows both of those muders had dirty cops all over it.
If a good person does join the LCSD to make a difference- that person will be beat down and broken if they don't play for the team- and cant talk about it or tell anyone - So what is a person to do. If there is one thing to learn from the LCSD it would be IT PAYS TO BE A LIER & THIEF.

Getting Smarter...you have a very long way to go. I can't figure out if you are just real stupid, dishonest, or both. Please share with us all what role the "dirty" cops played in either of the murders you mention.

No dirty cops in the Allsups or Bealls Murder. Just a bad prosecution and some substandard investigation. Only one of the killers got convicted. The other was never even arrested.

LOL Oh FACT, and I suppose you think you are the person to do it. As you can plainly see, I replied to the woman regarding my posts. I don't stick my foot in my mouth at all, I just state the facts, and all of you that defend Danny wish there was someway to silence me.

Left you a little novel on The Lea County Deputy Sheriff arrested for CHILD MOLESTATION thread. Glad to see you still come here and read the forums I post on.

Tell the truth, deep down inside, you've been missing me haven't you?:o) I'll be seeing you at the trial! Getting close now huh? Bet Mr. Surratt is getting nervous as hell about now.

I'm looking forward to watching Rose perjure herself. Hopefully after Danny is found guilty, they will file charges against her as well for destroying evidence, conspiracy, and anything else they can. If I was Tanya, I would insist on it.

You do know that you were wrong about Donnie not being called as a witness right? He IS on the witness list. I've also been told that the Prosecution has filed the papers for me to be a witness for them. Like I told you, you don't know as much about the law as you try to make people believe you do.

Karma is a bitch, and the truth is going to come out at this trial. No matter how hard all of you try to keep it hidden. You still willing to leave your little girls alone with Mr. Dan Surratt? If so, you need mental help.

Now you take care dearie. Cya soon!

Hello everyone, I just found this thread last night and registered today to make a post. I am not on here to argue with anyone, but here to state what I do know about Danny Surratt from my years working with him at the Lovington Police Department in the late 1970's. I do know of more than one report I received from young females in Lovington about Danny's behaviour towards them. I then wrote a report and submitted it to Assistant Chief of Police Archie Cunningham. I also submitted the same report to Chief of Police J. E. Polson. I was told that they would be looking into the things I told them, but since Danny was Archie Cunningham's boy the report was never persued and nothing was ever done to Danny. The allegations from the females that talked to me was that Danny had groped them and had asked them to meet with him for sex. Two of the females were underage black girls and the other three were underage white girls. They all told me that Danny wanted to perform oral sex on them. They were afraid to give a written statement because of repercussions when Danny learned of what they had told me. I worked with both Danny and Donnie. They both knew Jim Stewart who helped them get a job with the Lovington Police Department as all of them were from Illinois. I waited for some action from both Cunningham and Polson but it never happened. I then went to Ernest Carroll who was the Assistant District attorney at the time. He told me that he would be waiting for a report from both Cunningham and Polson. As far as I know that never happened. I then took another job and moved from Lovington and eventually retired from law enforcement. It was about a year ago when I first learned of Danny being charged with these crimes. In my heart I do believe that he committed the crimes as charged, but the trier of fact (the jury) must find him guilty of the crimes as set forth by the constitution and the laws of the State of New Mexico. When and if he is found guilty I hope that he receives the maximum sentence as prescribed by law. I do know from what I was told many years ago that these females had no reason to lie about what he said to them even though it was many years ago. I am not here to fight or argue, but just have stated what I know about Danny's behaviour at that time. I have learned through experience that a child molester does not mend their ways and the only recourse is to get them off of the streets far away from children. Have a nice day everyone.
