As a carrier for the current argus I can say that what happened on october 2nd was not something anyone had control over. The gentleman that brings the papers from el paso has a job that is not easy. That particular night he brought 5400 bundles of current argus papers and each bundle had 100 papers, that doesn't include all the el paso times he brings down. And on wednesday he brings the pecos valley shoppers. Just for carlsbad house deliveries he brings about 150 el paso times and that doesn't include what is sold in stores and racks, plus he has several other stops after he leaves carlsbad. But for the record he had a tire blow out around dell city texas, when he went to change the tire his jack broke and then had to walk approximately 10 mile at 3 in the morning just to get a signal. I would love to see anyone of you do his job 6 nights a week and never have any issues. And then you have to take into consideration your carriers, who arrive between 2:30 and 3:30 every morning but monday morning. That particular morning we waited 4-5 hours before the truck showed up. The bundle amounts that come from el paso vary from night to night as does the number of papers in each bundle. On tuesday and wednesday each bundle has aout 100 papers. Sunday paper bundles have 20 papers in them. Keep in mind some carriers have more than one route to deliver. Some have 4, so once the truck gets there, the papers have to be unloaded then sorted for each carrier, then each carrier has to roll all their papers, which could be anywhere from 150 - 400+ papers. Then we have to throw them all. The carriers make about 8 to 10 cents per paper. Some complaints from customers are legit. I personally know all 300+ papers we throw on our routes are delivered no later than 7. Yet we still get complaints about missed delivery just because it is not at your house before you go to work. We are charged for every complaint we get. 1.50 during the week and 3.00 for sunday, and that amount is per each complaint. The carriers are not exactly happy that the papers are getting there later but we deal with it so you guys don't have to go buy a paper, and we do it rain or snow. We would love to have your papers at your house before you go to work, but it is beyond our control. I personally apologize for that. And please keep that in mind when you get upset about something as small as your paper being late. we are doing the best we can.

Not to mention we are responsible for our own gas, maintenance and wear and tear on our vehicles. We also have elderly and disabled customers that we have to put their paper on their porch, which takes a little extra time. So if you are not elderly or disabled don't ask us to porch your paper. We also have to buy the rubber bands to wrap the papers and we have to also buy the bags to put your papers in when it rains or snows. After all those expenses we don't really make a whole lot of money and when you call and complain just to complain that is less money for us. We appreciate the customers that don't complain and the ones that tip us, but they are few and far between. Plus we lose more customers than we get. And when the price of the paper goes up, the carrier pay stays the same. So please take that into consideration as well. I'm not asking you not to complain, if you have a legitimate complaint, by all means call and complain. But please don't call and say you didn't get your paper just because it isn't at your house when you think it should be.

A few years ago I was Operations Manager at C.C.A.
The daily press run was approximately 9,000 papers.
You are claiming distribution is now 540,000 papers.

I would sincerely like to know how this is possible.

Wow you comment to inform someone about why and what the issues were, and you do it after working your main job and then go throw your routes and are tired and you make one little mistake and the trolls jump on it. Not surprised though considering who it is. I would have thought michele would have commented before me seeing as how in other posts she seems to know about everyone in this town and what goes on. Yall aren't perfect either and make mistakes. I corrected about 15 typos and mistakes before I posted, so I missed one and you have nothing better to do than point it out. Get a life.

no one really cares why you are late (it does happen once in a while) but in the past month you have been late - after 0630 - several times

carriers provide a service...
if there is no paper by 0630,(service)then I don't need the paper and I will cancel

then your daily numbers will continue to DECLINE!!!!!!

Ever since el paso took over the guaranteed delivery time is 8 am. I understand some may nit get it by then but i can assure you tgerr are more custumers that get theirs before 8 than there are that get it after 8. And I know some deliveries get missed but in those instance you can call up there to complain. Some customers get theirs by 630, however it depends on how many routes they have.

I delivered 10 full blocks of houses when I was young, walking at 5:30 in the morning. Sometimes the papers were stolen. If you are so crybaby upset about your newspaper not getting to your house, become an employee and deliver it to yourself.

There are 14 different carriers. One does single copy(racks and stores) one who does loving and malaga, one who does every house between here and artesia, plus artesia, leaving 11 to cover all of carlsbad. my partner and I deliver over 300 papers as do a few other carriers, you can't blame your late paper on me as there is no way to be certain that I deliver your paper. if you are unhappy that your paper is not there by 630 then cancel your subscription. trust me, the 2 dollars and some change that the carrier makes in a month from you isn't going to break them.

most people who get home delivery of the paper WORK
If paper is NOT there by 0630 then there is no time to read the paper and your
service will no longer be required at subscription time

It is the CA that has the problem with service and their decline in daily papers from 9000 to 5000 shows the dissatisfaction of the local folks.

There are many different carriers that deliver papers in the area so to accuse one carrier of never getting papers before 6:30 am is not fair. You have no idea who delivers your paper or who the carrier above is so how can you can make such an accusation? We have no control over what happens in el paso or what time the truck arrives. All we have control over is getting the papers from our car to our customers yards as quickly as we can while remaining safe. We are human and deserve to be treated as such ... making unfounded accusations is just not right.

You think we don't know this? Hence the reason we are not happy about the papers arriving late. Believe it or not some of us care about our customers. And it is not a job, its a little extra money. As I stated in my earlier post I have a main job. Yes the money ia nice but definitely not what I pay my bills with, so if I lose a customer, no its not gonna break me. But it is nice to have extra money, should I happen to lose all my customers all I have to do is take on more hours at my main job or find another job. So you are not doing us a favor.

I agree, most of us have a main job or our own business and some even go to school. Being a carrier is extra cash, not a source of income for most of us. With a couple this is the case But most of us not so. We get aggravated when things go wrong and it causes our customers frustration. It just sucks that we get yelled at by customers because of things we had no control over. If I could place every customers paper on their porch at 3am with a cup of coffee that never gets cold, I would. Some of us really do care about making our customers happy and treating others as we would like to be treated. Unfortunately some circumstamces hold us back from making things perfect all the time. I would like to think the loss of customers would have them bring the press back here but I don't think it is the case ... everything is going online now days and I think that is where CA is trying to take our town paper.
