This is unfortunate. Perhaps the young woman didn't go through proper channels for the importation. We should not expect Mexican Customs to let through 900 new pairs of shoes just because someone says they are intended as a donation. Would they let me import 900 new computers or 900 new refrigerators or 900 new Toyota Camrys if I just said I intended to donate them to the Indians?

If she had just offered a $50 bribe to the customs worker, she could have taken 9,000 pairs of shoes across the border.

They don't want gifts from the U.S. but they'll let their people starve and come over to the U.S. for a better opportunity...typical.

Mexico is a piece of crap. We should all stop going there. Period. Los del gobierno Mexicano son una bola de babosos, pendejos, estupidos! Mexican officials are a bunch of corrupt, uneducated parasites.

Ain't sovereignty great! I agree with the guy from Pennsylvania, though. There's plenty of poor, minority children for whom we can deny the shoes. However, I don't think this bridge inspector is a spokesman for Mexico. They have bad apples just as we have border agents who cover up shootings. And soldiers who (fill in the blank).

Hypocrisy and misplaced pride turned those shoes back. The Mexican government then should in turn give the Indians 900 pairs of shoes.

Lots of talk and nobody knows nothing. Why were they turned away? Because local gov. is having a hard time trying to stop illegal commerce. If she wants to donate, why not pay the proper tax? If she doesnt want to pay a tax fee, why doesnt she has proper documentation? Like a letter from an organization just for kicks. Its a pain in the butt, but I dare all of you to try to cross the same cargo from Mexico to the US with nothing but your word that is going to be donated and see if they let you cross it.

Apparently this woman is one of the Mexicans living here, she's not going to want to do a damn thing for Americans. That's the La Raza way you know. They come here for the money but it's all about Mexico for them. Serves her right, but they should have thrown her butt in prison.

The US record on helping the poor in their own lands is pretty poor also, nor do we treat out Native population much better.

Right on the head...if this young lady was guilty of anything, it was of being naive as to how the Mexican system works...
