I understand why older people would be upset about something like this, cause I know you have bills and payments to take care of, unlike us, however, I would like to go to college, and that is a very expensive education.
I've been looking for three years, applying everywhere, and I still can't find a job for the life of me, and I'm 17. I'm actually afraid I will never be able to find a job. I have no experience. The older I get, the more and more pathetic my applications will seem, and then I can't go to college. What then? I can't expect my parents to take care of me their whole life, they can barely save up for their retirement right now.
Teens are at the bottom of the workforce foodchain, we NEED help! We have nothing to lean back on, nothing to tell employers at an interview to make them believe that we would be a good addition to their team. Then when we grow up, and have no college, no money, and no knowledge of economics, talk about a pathetic working class. America's gotta take care of its young so it can take care of you.
Every day I can't find a job (and I look every day) I get more discouraged. I just want to work, and at this point, I'm willing to work anywhere. But older people with more experience are taking the only jobs we possibly could've gotten. So don't complain about "them lazy young people these days" cause there's nothing we can do!
Now, young one. Write your congressperson and tell them. Ask them WHY they think we need to IMPORT workers.

I guess you don't have a facebook. His/Her grammar is actually pretty good for a teenager these days, despite it being in Caps.
By the way I know you don't have a facebook, that was a joke.
"harry paratestes" is speaking from his "paratestes". One needs a brain to balance that.

<quoted text>So the Armed Services are perfect for you. Good pay, educational help & a career. Don't have to cry no more.
Old advice and not GOOD advice at that. My man is now several years into his second career having served 20 years in the army. NOW is not a good time according to him to do this.

BUT alas if you are, be prepared for ROMANESQUE deployments of years on end in places that will twist your mind. Be prepared to come back LESS than whole and don't expect anyone except your buds will have sympathy for you. And if you arrive intact and manage to collect on the promise of an education, make DANG sure it's accredited. Because if you don't, YOU will be paying for every cent. Be prepared NOT to get paid on time and go maybe as long as 3 months with no pay for your bills. Be prepared for your honor and integrity to be compromised by having bill collectors call and harass you. And be prepared to have LIP SERVICE granted you for your "sacrifice". It's a wonder we HAVE a military these days. They're screwed.

Oh, and if you join the military, and you like to vote, be prepared to have your vote TRASHED. The country is not willing to wait till yours comes in.

I hate like hell to agree with every word you wrote, but I must because it's the truth.
Yeah, the military will surely keep you busy for several years but the best you can hope for when it's over is NOTHING. Hopefully once you've served and been discharged they won't drag you back. And don't get injured on the job there. The VA is a joke.

Do you have some info on the VA? Why do you think it's a joke? Just curious.

Like you said, it's just what I think. My FIL served two tours in Vietnam. He got out in '68. He was injured pretty good on his second tour and had been dealing with the VA since his discharge. In 2002 the VA told him that they could no longer help him because his records were lost in a fire, in 1978!
And lately, with their lack of ability to clean equipment, I'd rather take my chances with getting blown apart by a roadside bomb in Iraq than take my chances with the VA and my health.
Again, just my opinion. I can't say everything about VA is horrible because they do help a lot of people. But many slip through the cracks. Just adds to how badly a lot of our vets get treated by their own government.

To the unemployed kids starting out in life who can't get work, try being a live-in housekeeper. There's always someone who needs help at home. It's experience you'll need in your own life. It's mostly common-sense work and a lot of times room and board is included. Obviously it's not for everyone, but if I were a single, non-parent trying to start out in life I'd go for it.
Just an idea.

Go to the beach, do one-handed pushups behind a tip jar and wait for the cash to pour in. Tourists are always looking for entertainment. And you can't cliff dive for tips in S. FL like they do in Mexico. Which is a shame.

Yeah, I remember that. I think it was at Ft. Meyer they had the fire, right? Yeah, I've heard some older vets complain too. My man has done some too, though not about the VA. Since he's retired military, they keep trying to steer him to Walter Reed, which is a LONG drive from us.

Good luck with that, though I hear WR has their problems, too. And do me a favor, please. Tell your man I said thank you.

And better yet, do it if you are a 65+ year old man--the older the better-if you haven't broken a hand or wrist before then. Now THAT would deserve a tip for entertainment! LOL.

(disclaimer: once when I was 25 and running some miles a week, I had an old guy OUTRUN ME. Just cause you're old; doesn't mean you're can't be fit)

Yeah, but at least here in the northern Va area, you'd better behave yourself and get plenty of lawsuit insurance. All some kid has to do is call 'perv' and you're in trouble big time. Not paranoia. That's just the way it is.

Just another example of how everyone's perspective is different. You have to worry about that stuff more up there. Down here in South Florida/North Cuba we have to worry more about being bilingual.
Just curious, is there such a thing as lawsuit insurance?
"Not paranoia. That's just the way it is."
That one line pretty much describes a lot of things in this day and age.

I don't think there is a such thing. Maybe the closest is malpractice insurance for doctors. What I'm trying to say is be prepared for anything as much as possible. Because the one chink in your armour is what they'll go for.

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Sagittarius

People around you may be insistent in their demands and they seem unreasonable, which in turn will lead to mental tension for you. There is the danger that this will dull your resolve, but the real path still lies ahead, beyond these temporary hurdles. Don't take this as a setback: there's no need to change your course of action.
