Last week I thought I saw a drug deal go down at the HG Hill store on Memorial Blvd. At least I saw a man sitting in the parking lot and I thought he was acting weird so I couldn't help but watch him while I was waiting on my wife. After about 10 minutes a black car parked beside him (not in a parking space), a man got out and walked up to this guy and I saw him hand something light colored in a plastic bag and the guy handed what looked like folded cash. The man then got in his car a drove off going west on 8th ave. It happened to fast to call the police. Before I knew it it was over. I told a friend about it and he and his wife said Springfield is flooded with a drug problem and that you can get just about anything you want here and the police can't seem to keep up with it all. Well, why not? Are they trying? I don't know and I am not judging their work. I am just curious.

I saw another similar situation at the Western Market while in the Wendy's Drive Thru line. I thought "can I not go anywhere in this town with my family without running into these criminals"?

Oh well, I was just interested in others who may have seen these things. Is it everywhere here or am I just seeing these deals by chance. It seems the chances are just extremely high.

Interested in your replies.

Of course there are drugs in Robertson county. There are drugs everywhere. To say that the police could be doing a better job of keeping drug use under control is a moot point. There will always be drugs in Springfield. It's a small town. There's nothing better to do. If the police force put all the resources they could into trying to clean up the town, they'd still be losing. It would be a waste of time.

I am aware that drugs are here and will always be here and everywhere. I just thought it was so much of it going on here or coincidental that I saw what appeared to be two deals within 30 minutes and not far from each other and they seemed to act as if they had no worries about being caught. nThey were very bold or so it seemed. Yes, I know the "Drug War" will always be here (everywhere) and will never be "won". Oh, and it sounds like it IS a waste of time (vs. "would be". Ha ha!

You might not be able to stop evil, but is that any excuse to "DO NOTHING???" I have reported incidents like this man is talking about to the police for years with NO responce. Do you mean to tell me that if you knew your house was being robbed, that you wouldn't rush home, call the police and make every effort to stop it. Even though by the time anyone got there, the theives would probly be gone. We might not can stop drugs and other evils in our little corner of the world, but we can sure slow it down instead of letting it run rampid. We can also go to our public officials and raise cain till they listen to us about it. This country won it's independence with only 4% of it population. With God on their side, that's all they needed. They didn't wait for the other 96% of the population to quit hiding under the bed, or grew a brain to do what they knew was right. They had faith in God and did what they knew was right. I encourage all citizens of this county and country to do the same.

God Bless

Your not alone my friend in your obsevations. I have lived in Robertson County now for almost 20 years and I've noticed this as well as many other things. "In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." George Orwell

Springfield is a crap hole. The city police are lazy. They don't want to be bothered by having to do reports. I told a police officer what I saw one day (same incident you described) and he told me that there wasn't a drug problem in Springfield. If you go down S. Main or Cheatham St. you'd also see hookers, and what about the hell hole that is the Royal Inn? What an eye sore. I hate coming to Springfield.

No you are not the only one that notices....how do you think the sherriff's department gets money for things they need?! Have you ever noticed that when its election time enditements come out? The police know whats going on but thats their "savings" account! Their are drugs everywhere! I am a daughter of a police officer and have many police friends, they cant do anything about it unless someone calls, no one wants to be a snitch! If they see someone actually selling they can do something about it, and many do. But once again they have to do what they are told not just go on gossip. If you want to change things then you can do one of two things...1) stop going on the West side of town or 2) Start CALLING!!!!! And the Royal Inn is soooooo gross!! But once again thats the reason we are the 4th county in the state to have AIDS. But once again no one can do anything unless someone says this is whats happening on this street and they are goin this way.

I think they should investigate places like the sports bar, state line bar and the worst drug bar in springfield, The Piggy Pit.Soon as it gets dark the demons come out of their holes.Been there and witnessed it first hand.Everybody there knows who's who on the drug scene,go out back make a few phone calls and go pick it up,its that easy.

You know if they would cut all cut out just handing out welfare checks to half of Springfield, maybe the drug dealers would move out of springfield. They'd have to take their family to another city to collect it. And it is the Police Depts problem because they have just let the drug dealers go for so long. They could at least try to control most of it. They county has so much wasted money, they need to think about the how to clean up there town. And I heard Robertson is one of the 2 highest rated county for aids. And you know most that have it done care about spreading it.

We have Crimestoppers, etc. so why is it everyone in Springfield knows who is pushing the drugs. This is a joke. Those folks in law enforcement and those serving on these boards are either dumb as dirt or in denial. The drug deals are being made right in front of people....do something.

Only one guy over drug force, cops would rather write tickets to speeders while passing the drug deals going on,drugs are everywhere but my god not right in your face like in springfield, all kinds of theft, drugs, prostitution going on but the speeders are only ones paying in springfield, maybe we need to bus in cops from other counties instead of kids

Well I must respond to Too Bigg's comment. How long ago did you witness this drug deal in The Piggy Pit? I know first hand that this doesn't go on in there anymore. The place has really changed for the better since a certain bartender is no longer there. She is now at the Sportsbar or so I am told. Now thats a place that needs investigated. The owner is a know crook that is under investigation. They have been shut down several times by the state for some reason.
I agree about the police turning there head's when it comes to drugs in Springfield. I mean darn one of the biggest drug dealing families in town owns the biggest furniture store in Springfield. Everybody knows it but nothing is done about it because they have alot of money. Then the cops are just as crooked. Just when a certain drug dealer in Adams is about to get busted his K9 cop friend calls him and gives him a head's up so he can get rid of what he has before they get there. It goes on and on. We all know of stories like this but what is done about it...nothing. It's all about who you know in Springfield...Politics

I just returned home to Robertson County from over the road hauling and read through my stack of Rob. Co. Times to catch up with what's been going on in the news. SOME PEOPLE IN SPRINGFIELD ARE GOING CRAZY! There were four people (I think) shot to death, drug dealers busted (a good thing), and now they are looking for a new Chief of Police!
It seems to me the springfield police department drug cops have been kicking some drug thug A**! There must be four or five write-ups since October of 2011 where it reads, "Guns & Drugs Seized by Police" and in one article it quoted Stewart as saying,(paraphrasing) "we need to go for the head of the snake instead of just chopping or chipping away at the tail". That was funny stuff! More power to them! Does anyone know who the city and county drug cops are now? Just wondering.
