Surely this is a misprint in the Tennessean about the City not pursuing money used inappropriately by the former gas dept. director. So now taxpayers are going to be stuck with this cost because he didn't pocket the money?? This is the craziest thing the City has done in a long time. Whether he used city equipment, materials, etc. for other people does not give him the right to do it Stealing is stealing, and he is NO better than these people sitting in jail that have stolen. I think anybody in the City that had a part of making the decision to let this go, needs to go themselves. Furthermore, if he hadn't gotten caught when he did, I think it wouldn't have continued. I am ashamed and appauld at this going without any consequences just because he was a good ole springfield boy. The jails are full of them, and many have paid for their thefts, too. Unbelievable.

I think you should find out all the facts before you start making ignorant comments.

OK. You get a letter from the city gas dept. that tells you that you can have a gas line installed free if you so desire when they are in that area installing new services. Therefore, you take them up on their offer. Then you find out over a year later that the dept. head did not have the authority to do that. Should have to pay since you were acting in good faith and had no idea it was wrong? If it was taken to court the home owner will win every time.

I am basing my opinion on what was reported in the newspaper and on the local news. What is the REAL story, "Miss Judge and Jury"?? Perhaps if the reports are not accurate, you should take it up with those making statements, not those repeating what was said. If my comments were ignorant, that would mean everyone, including Mr. Hall himself made ignorant quotes, so please correct us all.

As Arnold stated above, Mr. Hall made decisions that he was not authorized to make. At least that is what I learned from reading the huge front page article about him in our Robertson County Times. Perhaps you read a different article. And I wouldn't call that stealing. I would call that overstepping his bounds - which might even be what Mr. Hall said but I don't have the paper in front of me so don't consider that a direct quote. Stealing would be if Mr. Hall sent that equipment out to his home and dug himself a nice big swimming pool instead of incorrectly charging the wrong account for work done to better this city. If you proofread your statement you would understand my reference to ignorance.

Lastly, as a community, we should be "appauld" at all the unsolved murders and violent crimes in Springfield. I guarantee more of our tax dollars are spent "fighting" crime and funding an ineffective court/jail system then what could have been saved if these projects had been charged correctly. The big stories in this town should be about cracking down on crime instead of dragging an individual through the mud.

You can call it anything you would like to, but when you take something that you KNOW is NOT yours to take, that is stealing. When you falsify invoices, that is fraud. When you play the "big guy" and get people on city gas that are not paying for it, I call that theft and fraud. Perhaps our values are not the same, but the way I was raised wrong is wrong. When you are using things that are not yours to impress others and allowing them services that the rest of the honest people are paying for, I call that all of the above. He knew what he was doing call it what you'd like.

It was the city's mistake so they're the ones that need to eat it. But of course this is Springfield so they will find a way to make it back by screwing someone else. Just don't be shocked when were paying $150 for tags.
