I do know for a fact that DCS in East TN continues to place children in a East TN fostercare agency which has a history of cult activity. This agency runs foster homes all over east TN. The cult agency lies to DCS and continues to cover up incidents of abuse and accidents which happen in the foster homes that the fostercare agency runs. Not sure any children have died while placed with this agency but I would be surprised if they have. Since the new DCS commisioner started her job DCS has began a practice of discriminating against hiring veterans or more experienced case managers. I suspect this is because they are afraid vets or people with more experience might blow the whistle on their failure to provide safety for the children in their custody. And by the way. Don't try to leave negative comments about DCS stories on WBIR website. The don't believe in freedom of speech.

The Smoky Mountain Children’s Home dissolved the position of director of foster care Tuesday when Tennessee Department of Children’s Services found the man holding the position didn’t have proper academic credentials. The findings come after an investigation that started with questions from The Mountain Press.

DCS spokesman Rob Johnson informed The Mountain Press Tuesday that the department had determined SMCH’s foster care director, Don Baker, didn’t meet state guidelines despite degrees he had submitted to the state that seemed to indicate he had the proper qualifications.

“After a careful review, we determined that Don Baker’s academic credentials did not meet the DCS licensing requirements for a casework supervisor within a child-placing agency,” Johnson said.

The children’s home is an outreach of the Church of God, but falls under DCS guidelines for private providers of child care because it contracts with the state to care for children. Those guidelines include academic requirements for certain employees. The Mountain Press began investigating Baker’s credentials after receiving an unsigned letter saying he didn’t have the academic credentials required for his position.

Under the state’s guidelines, a casework supervisor is required to have a master’s degree in social work and two years experience in the provision of foster care or adoption services, or an equivalent degree in a related field and three years of experience. Baker had given the state a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Kentucky in May of 1998, and a doctor of arts in human services from Corllins University, an online school, in 2012.

After more than a week of investigation The Mountain Press could not find any record of the University of Central Kentucky, and found that Corllins University is not accredited through accrediting organizations recognized by the United States Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

I know of a situation where DCS manipulated evidence in a sexual abuse case. A girl molested by her father from age 2 and the state helped him gain custody. The mother is still fighting for the truth and the child is now 17.

43 Tennesseans sent the Governor Haslam 6 weekly letters asking for an unbiased investigation of the abuse. The governor’s office referred the matter to (then) DCS Commissioner O’Day. None of the 43 considered O’Day or DCS unbiased in the matter but a little like asking the fox to guard the hen house.

We hope somehow to hold Gov. Haslam accountable for the state laws that DCS stomps on. DCS is not the underfunded, under-resourced agency is purports to be.

Regarding the recent deaths. Does anyone remember the deaths of about 11-12 years ago. We have DCS-related deaths every 10 years and no one makes long-term changes. Changes will come only from pressure and the news machine is all we have for pressure, that I know of.

Someone please help!

DCS does not help kids 100% of the time... There are numerous cases where the kids would have been a lot better off left where they were at compared to being placed in a foster home!!!
