Hi,
I currently live in central NY because of my and my husbands jobs. Yes we actually work.:) Outside of NYC the rest of the state is not predominately liberal. I live in a small conservative town, but sick of the taxes to support those that won't support themselves.

When we retire we don't want what we worked so hard for and sacrificed for to be Given away because, "it's fair". I could tell a story about fairness and a welfare family that lived much better than we did, all in fairness of course.

Anyway..... In trying to look ahead and plan for retirement, TN as a state seemed to be a good fit.but where? I don't want to give up the safety we have now, but looking at different forums I've seen a lot of posts from people saying saying its a safe area however they aren't really welcomed and wish they never moved there. I don't want that. Where I live now is not that way, we,re friendly, say hi to each other, look out for neighbors, however if you break in we're going to shoot your ...

I saw a place on a lot of forums saying it was everything I had now, and welcoming. Not so I've discovered. It's hostile, and I don't want to move to a place like that.

So my question is what is the environment in Knoxville? I was attacked somewhere else simply because of where I live now. No one defended their city. Good and bad people live everywhere, but I wouldn't live there.

Asking for opinions in an online forum will give you an idea of the worst of the worst, given only if the people found there can maintain faceless bravery.

Topix is solely for the purpose of gossip, slander, and bickering. The lowest form of discussion will comprise 99% of the content.

I suggest you call the Knox visitors bureau and arrange a trip down here to see first hand that what topix provides only the cesspool 1% not the norm.

Thank you SO much for your reply, sadly the internet that should be a place of information is anything but that. And any and all forums for questions and discussion have been taken over by bitchy basement dwellers.

I thank you again and will follow your advise.

The other poster is correct. You will never get the right info on Topix. He or she is also correct about Memphis and a lot of towns close by. For retirement, it kind of depends on what you like. For lower taxes, tranquility, small town America, I suggest areas around Crossville. Don't ask about it here and look independently at places like Fairfield Glade.
Knoxville is fine but is a larger city and is a University town. Traffic is much worse, but it is a great location and there are a lot of options for entertainment. It is saf outside of the urban east part of town and areas closer to downtown.

Dandridge is beautiful!! Many large houses and expensive communities. Small crime rate! Friendly people. Very small community. If you get in trouble in Jeff county they show no mercy I promise you that!!
