"Someone" - If you would consider taking the time to go back and read the news story, you will see this:

"So far, Cassidy and her parents have raised $5,000 selling calendars and doing
other fundraisers".

Hmmmm...sounds to me like the whole family is WORKING for it. "Fundraisers" usually mean you receive a 'product' of some kind in exchange for money. This is different from "asking for money". If people "make a donation" to this family, it is only because they were MOVED to do so. "Offering a product in exchange for money" is exactly what Cassidy is attempting to do with her song as seen here in the remainder of the article:

"The 11-year-old girl has since written and recorded a song entitled “The Dog That
Saved Me”. She has applied to have her song sold through iTunes. If that happens,
she plans to use any money raised to pay off the remaining balance for her dog AND
HELP OTHER CHILDREN LIKE HER GET THEIR OWN DIABETIC ALERT SERVICE DOG".

(I capitalized that last part to make sure you saw that). Songwriting takes work ... oftentimes, an LOT of work ... the song is the product of this young girl's personal feelings as a result of this dog becoming part of her life. She has every right to attempt to sell her song REGARDLESS of the cost associated with training the dog, yet, this young lady has decided to try to market the song not only to raise money for HER dog, but to "help other children like her get their own diabetic alert service dog". Wow. What an awesome young lady...a young lady who is looking BEYOND herself and seeking a longterm commitment to help others as well. That is the beginnings of a real citizen leader, and someone I will gladly step up and support. I am a songwriter myself, and believe me, attempting to have a single song raise not only $7,000 for herself, but thousands of dollars more for others, is, quite frankly, a long shot when you consider that single songs sell for a maximum of $0.99 typically. Yet I not only APPLAUD her for SHOOTING FOR THE STARS TO DO SOMETHING GOOD IN THE WORLD AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE, but I am going to join in her effort to try to help her do it!

As someone who earns, at best, a VERY modest living myself, and who has been struck by the lightning that is our country's current pathetic economic situation, then I can see how it might be easy for "Someone" to sit back and cast judgement based on what this family may already have. However, nine times out of ten, I think it's pretty safe to say that people WORK HARD to acquire material possessions that, for one reason or another, enrich their lives...be it electronic gadgets/gaming devices, instruments, or ... oh, I don't know ... HORSES! Regardless, I think, if you REALLY look at the big picture, this story is really MUCH MORE about the great information provided to others who may not have known dogs such as these were available to those who need them at places like www.WarrenRetrievers.com , and the GOOD NEWS (for a change) that we still have youth aiming BIG to do some good in this world ... it's newsworthy because it DOESN'T HAPPEN ENOUGH! The real question is, how do we all react? If you aren't moved by it, don't purchase her song, don't buy a calendar, don't donate. But, for heaven's sake, don't belittle a family of strangers, either. What purpose does that serve, really? Show support for this young girl's good heart and attempt to utilize the musical talents God blessed her with (and she, undoubtedly worked to hone) to make a long term difference for others battling such difficult diseases that could be aided by these dogs.

Cassidy has been showing Flash in the VQHA circuit. Her parents can not sell him because they never fully paid for him. A letter was written to get him at a much reduced rate than the orginial $10,000 that was asked for him.

well since some people have nothing but neg things to say maybe they should not say anything, it appears this above post has some type of grudge against this little girl and if this person watched the post maybe they would not be under the wrong impression. The story was done from my take on it as a human interest story and was not a cry for money . the information was given as a way of getting the information out there that these dogs are really a help for people like this little girl. The fundraising is part of the decision that the girl wants to make. If she is able to raise money towards her dog and well as to help others what is your problem with it ? seem like you are a jealous person. Also i know for a fact that this does not benefit the parents the monies all get paid to the breeder since i was one person who wrote a check and i made it payable to the breeder not the parents or to cassidy directly
also have you ever typed a post from a handheld it is very easy to make spelling mistakes when using those devices, if you are so much against this then why not say who you are so that at least the parents can address you directly what a coward you are. I feel sorry for you !!!!
This is the greatest thing to come along, that a dog could help maintain a safe bloodsugar level. I just hope that it is true that you did pay directly to the breeder/trainer. The mother has not been known to handle money with honest hands. She stole $1000's of dolllars while she was acting tresurer for the PTA. The family states they are trying to raise money to help others with diabetes, what about helping the students she stole from? She stole from students that have alot less than her family. I question as to where all the money raised at "Field Day of Past" and the Benifit Horse this coming weekend will end up. Be very careful as to where you donate your money and make sure that it can be traced and used for good, not paying cell phone bills, buying horse supplies and stuff at Target.

Ummm that’s false.. The family did actually pay the 10,500 for him. I am pretty sure that it came out of her trust fund that they have…

My Computer sent before I had a chance to check my spelling- it should be acting treasurer and there is a Benefit Horse Show- I missed the show part. Just wanted to make sure it is all clear.:)

If she truely paid out of her trust fund and not a family member in another state, then she could sell this horse (since she is changing from western to english) and use some of that money toward her dog expenses. I know there are people that show in VQHA that are interested in Flash. So the "Someone" from centreville is correct and asking "Why not pay your own way?" Instead of asking for a handout or I guess you could just be taking it from the community once again.

Thanks! that is my whole point and people keep jumping my ass.... I just don't understand why they are raising money to pay for their dog... She has a blog about raising money for the training. If they were raising money for other young children to help offset the cost of training a dog than great job, but it doesn’t sound like they are…. I heard that they still owe a lot of money to individuals that they bought show ponies off of… Idk if that is true or not…

I am worried about the nice people that will be taken for a ride. Mom gives a good talk. Please do not get me wrong I wish only a great future for Cassidy and maybe this dog will be the answer to that future. She needs positive influences in her life.

Perhaps Cassidy's mother should use some of the donated money to pay back the money she stole from the PTA.

wow this has really gotten out of context
i am a law officer in the area and there was not any money stolen from the PTA at any time it was invested and the investment account was closed out the proof was clear and the problem was that people like to cast stones and that is a huge problem i assure you if that was a true statement then the law would have taken such a thing serious and there would be an arrest made . Since that is not the case and there was never any investigation and therefore this is a very nasty rumor and should not be spread and brought to this issue since it truly has nothing to do with this entire
situation with the child and what she wants to do

wow how interesting
flash is not for sale now or will he ever be for sale ! i will not sell him so whoever you are get your facts straight , also cassidy is not changing from western to english . she is doing both with flash when and if she wants to . i am not sure why there is so much jealousy of a kid who has such a great horse but the thing is i pay for her show bills. i give them cash or checks for the show fees. the trainer is paid mostly in cash for the time she spends at shows which is my cash, i also spend alot of money on her outfits not the parents. i have given them money towards the dog and i will continue to as i can . But i am cassidy's backer and i am the one who will decide when a horse will be sold. Flash will be a part of this family for as long as he lives as far as i am concerned because he takes care of cassidy and that is worth everything.
Also i think you should if you are concened about where the money is going contact dan warren and see how the money is being paid. Not that it is any of your business but all funds are being paid to the breeder and trainer. Seems to me that there are people out there that have nothing better to do than try to bring down someone who wants to make a difference . I lost my son to this terrible disease and i want cassidy to have a long life being able to do all the things she wants while her health allows her. My son died at 22 yrs old from diabetic complications after going bling losing his kidney function and having heart failure
trust me this disease long term is ugly and i promise you none of these nasty posters would want this for one of their childern. i assure you that
both parents or honest fair and very committed to giving this child a quality of life. Recently this family you speak of felt bad that an event was not giving much to the kids of the event as awards so the parents purchased and paid for the awards for that event to provide for those childern. I think that those without the FULL FACTS SHOULD MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS !!!!!!
also a letter was never written to anyone to get a reduction in price for flash that transaction is between the seller and the buyer who are you people to insert yourself into such private matters SAD SAD NO LIFE HUMANS well maybe not humans as humans have compassion and are not supposed to be so nasty , it is not like this kid is running for president or the parents , If you don't want to help in the awareness of the aid in this project then mind your own business.

p.s. I forgot to mention that there is no Benefit Horse SHow planned . There is simply a small dog event at a harvest festival and it is money that is going to the snap foundation and some will go towards cassidy's dog fundraising. so again still have not gotten any of the facts right if you are going to write something you should check your info instead of opening your mouth and making as

I have know this family for over 25 years and done alot of business with them. They have always been honest, paid their way , worked hard and done nothing but provide all they can for their child who is very ill with her disease . If any one wants to get a reference you can contact me

oh yes i wanted to mention that cassidy has never shown ponies she has only shown since last year and that was on a horse. The ponies she has had before that were really older ponies that were past their prime and were for her to have fun on learn on she has never really had a show pony .. I know this since they have come from me !!!! If this centerville person is who i think it is we have met why don't you buy your child a horse of their own instead of sponging of of others horses that are nice to give your child an unfair advantage .. really i am just saying>>>>
The parents told me they were letting cassidy do the qtr thing since it was so supportive and great for the youth apparently that is not true the VQHA if still as full of jealous people as always nothing ever changes with that group.
