I will say, just because you have a flirtatious conversation does not mean that you solicited someone for sex. There is a difference between immorality and illegality...as evidenced by this case's dismissal. If immorality was illegal, almost everyone alive would have been in jail at some point or another.............JMO

A SENIOR citizen having a "flirtatious conversation" w/a child? How would you feel if that child was your daughter or granddaughter? This child was vulnerable, Mr. Hopkins knew it and took full advantage of it. Shame shame shame....

Oh I agree Hunter, certainly morally wrong and reprehensible........but that doesn't mean that the law has been broken. Go stand in line at Kings Dominion or Busch Gardens and hear what's said to some of these girls in person.........if saying something inappropriate was a felony, they'd arrest 150 people a day over there

That is not the issue here Smitty what is said or not while at Kings Dominion.
Mr. Hopkins sent a lascivious message(s) to a 15 yr old; the police had the cell phone and were communicating w/him from what I heard.
Mr. Hopkins got a "get out of jail" card-this time.

If you say "I want to kill that guy" when someone cuts you off, are you charged with attempted murder? Obviously not. What he said was immoral, no doubt about that. Immoral and illegal are different......what he said was not a solicitation. Solicitation is asking for something...or legally in Virginia, it is "commanding, entreating or attempting to persuade."
Just saying, the judge took the definition according to VA statute and determined stating a desire is not the same as asking someone to do something.
If he had made arrangements and or gone somewhere to consummate his desires, by all means lock him up and throw away the key.
Its not what you say, its what you do.

Mr. Hopkins is back volunteering with Mineral Rescue Squad. I wonder if the squad is screening his calls? Does he respond to calls involving young girls?
He has been found guilty in the court of public eye.
If my daughter ever needs 911, I'll take care of her myself. End of story.

I can't believe the squad would be so stupid as to let him back on the truck after his immoral statements to a young girl while on duty. Shame on the squads leadership. Something needs to be done to get that pervert out of emergency services.

All you have to do is contact BOS Willie Harper. You won't get anywhere with the President or Captain of Mineral Rescue. They have other members whose character is questionable...
I agree, Mr. Hopkins should not be allowed on an ambulance!

All volunteer rescue squads operate under the county's EMS license, contact the new chief Scott Keim if you want action.
Mineral Rescue isn't going to do anything; unlessen until.

Once a pervert, always a pervert.

Lets all call. Let your board of supervisor, and the chief know that we don't want perverts taking our children to the hospital.

The county wont do anything because where would it start and where would it stop ?
What about the paid person that was chased from a squad for having sex in the building ?
What about the paid person whose extra marital affiar led to a divorce ?
What about the numerous paid and volunteers who have had numerous affairs ?
What about the people who were charged with drug offenses but were found not guilty or given deferred sentances ?
What about the people charged with felonies but plead out to lesser charges ?
Im pissed at the commonwealths attorney, he didnt do his job on this one.
Why isnt anyone calling for his head ?

Wonder if 'Buddy' reads these messages? If so, what do you have to say for yourself?

Checkered, there is nothing to be mad at the Commonwealth's Attorney for.....the evidence did not support the charge. Like it or not, VA statute 18.2-374.3 needs the accused to command, entreat or attempt to persuade a minor. Just saying immoral things does not automatically mean that the statements fit those categories. Just saying you want to do something does not fit the statutory structure. If he had asked her if she wanted to or something to the effect of begging her to, he would be guilty.

If anything, be pissed at the legislature. If they want the law to prevent any sexual banter between minors and adults via the internet or elsewhere, make the law say so. Texas and several other states have laws that outlaw sexual banter between an adult and a minor.........

Just saying.

Doesn't it make you feel good to know Mr Hopkins is back to working at the high school football games with Mineral Rescue. If something should happen to one of our daughter's I'm sure he'll take real good care of them. Just like he did for that other young lady.

If you don't like that you better sit down for this one. He's back on Face Book. Check out his friends. Mineral juniors, several high school students, and several Louisa County sheriffs. Including Donnie Lowe. I guess the strategy is arrest, prosecute, and then friend. Only in Louisa.
