Wonder why nurses that are being investigated aren't put on suspension pending investigation. I know of one nurse that is under investigation and is working at Three Rivers Hospital. In fact, a copy of her info. regarding her license has been passed around at the hospital. Policeman, school officials (teachers, coaches, etc.) are suspended while a situation is being investigated. I wonder if Cabell Hosp. turned Barker in the the WV Board of Nursing. There have been others at Three Rivers that have failed drug tests, but were never reported to KY Board of Nursing.

Gossip,
You have to have a nursing license and pass a background check to be hired as a nurse. You can not just hire nurses off the street. Evidently his background check came back clean or he would not have been hired. Yes I agree he is a scumbag, but to say he was hired off the street is a little extreme. Unfortunately this happens all over the U.S. and background checks come back clean. This has even happened with previous offenders in certain states because if they go through the "state program," then the state gives them their license back. Once a nurse or any other healthcare professional has done something like this I think they should lose their license and never get it back. Do not know if this was true with this guy, but I hope he rots! People like him are worthless!

Perhaps it is just hear say, plus there is a difference between failing a drug test and having proof that someone stole drugs! And if someone failed a drug test, I am sure action was taken whether you knew it or not. Or perhaps they had a prescription. If you did not administer and investigate the drug test, then you should not gossip about what you think you know. And if you did that is not legal. Nurses are supposed to go to work to help their patients and not cause trouble and gossip! As far as Cabell is concerned, I used to have a West Virginia license. Unfortunately, West Virginia is a state that has a program you can go through to renew your license and your record gets wiped clean. So the West Virginia Board if Nursing sucks in my opinion. BTW,I am a nurse and I think it is horrible that nurses are passing around someone's info behind their back. In my opinion that is just as bad as failing a drug test. Seems like you would be more worried about actually working than gossiping!

Oh! I'm pretty sure the nurse involved has seen the paper. Why shouldn't other nurses and the PUBLIC as well know that a nurse or doctor is being investigated??? Would you want to be a patient under the care of someone like this? work and gossip go together you know that. For your information, I do my job thorough and drug free!

background checks dont show noting if you have never done nothing. Maybe this was his or her first offense. Unless you know who it is and have the background on them I wouldnt be throwing stones.

What if they were wrongly accused of stealing the drugs? Ever think of that? Most medication administration systems are computers! Has you computer ever malfunctioned? The Pyxis systems fail all the time. If the nurse has a clean record and passed the drug screen, give the nurse the curtisy of a fair explanation. Computers scree up all the time, and it doesn't mean you should loose your license over it.

I once knew a person who graduated at the top of his class in nursing school. Worked at KDMC and done the same thing, stole cardiac step down patients meds. Aventually he and ALOT of other we're fired and they totally lost their RN's license. Worked 4 years for that degree and lost it over something so stupid.
