Louisa Police Chief Phillip Claxon and police officers Nick Hughes, and Mason Keefer have resigned from the force efffective Sept. 30.

Claxon said this will be leaving the city only two officers, Ed Cordle and Greg Fugitt, with Cordle to become the acting police chief. Claxon stated the state police said they cannot guarantee the manpower to assist in Louisa and the sheriff only has four deputies who are trying to work the whole county (WHICH MEANS ANOTHER DEPUTY HAS RECENTLY QUIT SINCE THEY HAD FIVE AS OF LATE). Claxon pronounced "I don't know what is going to happen". He said the city only have two cruisers because the other ones are sitting at Jackson Brothers waiting to be fixed.

The city owes Jackson Brothers money for past repairs that have not been paid.

One person from the audience brought to the council's attention that after receiving an emergency call, the officer had to wait to respond until someone came to jump start his cruiser. Another audience member said he thought it was a shame that the chief of police doesn't make the same as, or more, than the Public Works Director, Dave McGuire.

SO CITIZENS OF THE CITY OF LOUISA (AND ALL OF LAWRENCE COUNTY FOR THAT MATTER: CAN YOU SPELL "MAJOR CRIME WAVE"!!!

sorry for lousia s money problems.. but i don't think the sheriff and his two officers should be allowed to return to there positions when this is settled..... potect and serve... i don't know him or the officers... and don't want to.. but if you quit and leave a city to a possible crime wave then you not the right person for the job.... no matter where it is...

This is just incredibly pathetic!! The misuse of taxes and public funds in this city is astounding! Since when is it ok for a city to lose a police chief and 2 officers? This town is full of crime. There are necessities and they should take priority to the wants and needs of the mayor. Before you lose your police force u should make every cut necessary. The protection and well being of the people in the city that elected you should be your main concern. Not the new vehicle you got in February and not paying for the gas your son runs out in the Fire Dept. vehicles. And before someone says he doesn't use it for personal use... let me just say... I have seen with my own two eyes him at Toro Loco eating at 7 PM with his family in the truck. He runs it all over God's country. Where is the fire? Always see the truck but no fire. If the mayor could see past the end of his nose, we wouldn't be in this predicament!! I'm tired of living in a crappy little city where bumping elbows dictates polictics!! Absolutely ridiculous! Who voted for these people anyway???? I sure didn't!!

I do know these guys and they have served the community well. They cannot do the job without the appropriate support. It is not their fault that cruisers don't work, they do not have sufficient supplies and that they do not get paid. They have families to support too. Best Wishes to them. The city needs to better manage the funds they have and find innovative ways to bring in monies. Don't blame these men for the upcoming problems.

It all boil down to mismanagement of funds.. The mayor fights to keep who he wants..and to keep everything the Fire Dept ask for... Freeze all spending... If it's not approved by the council then you can't waste the money and buy it.. Cut the 2 most wasteful jobs there.. The assistant clerk and the code enforcement officer. If someone would follow the code enforcement officer around they would see what a waste that job is. I would love to get paid for running around and loafing...

Took the words right out of my mouth..The clerk doesn't need an asst. and a law enforcement the city didn't have one before so why do they need one now? just another buddie thing. get rid of all of them, everyone should have known that Teddy is no major i also think it is a conflict of interest for teddy and eddie to be together eddie for sure needs to go and who ever seen eddie in the fire vehicle you are right but he doesn't care. HE HAS THE BALLS TO SAY TO THE PEOPLE LOOK AT ME WHAT YOU GOING TO DO TO ME I AM EDDIE THE GREAT

It looks to me like the fire dept gets anything they want since eddie is the mayors son, while all other dept's get budget cuts. I say sale one of the many fire trucks.

I think we need to start by running Teddy Preston out of town i mean it then his son and why do they need to pay them lazy mullin boys fire there ass hire one good guy he could do what they do.Yes city hall opened 2 days a week is plenty let compton and her assistant just work 2 days a week or fire assistant.Give Teddy Bear a bicycle to ride threw town.where is all money Sept.Fest brought in. Also if the city was that low of money why did they have that big fireworks show july 4th.I say IMPEACH TEDDY BEAR AND HIS CROOKED HEAD SON.

I think the fire dept. provided the fireworks...correct me if wrong. And YES...get rid of the asst. to the clerk. Just a waste of space. This is ridiculous to have 2 to do the job of what....there is no money to manage. What does the asst. do? Someone tell me this?? I would love to know who and what they do!!!!!

Let the city file for bankruptcy and let the state come over and take over! Private use of police cars, fire dept. owned vehicles, city owned vehicles, get rid of the jailer why in this day and age would we even need one?? get rid of the city police entirely or the county police entirely, two is one to many. There shouldn't be any state or city provided vehicles for anyone here, I pay for my own gas and car to go and get to work, these people can do the same.

The city and county police have no respect for me anyway, a crooked sheriff that supposedly at one point in time was a drug dealer if he still isn't, deputies being caught smoking weed, resigning and then getting rehired, a police force that supposedly "witnessed" a handcuffed woman take her hand cuffs off and commit suicide. most of their nights are spent in front of the birdhouse watching for any cars, specially out of state, to stop all night long, even though, they're in the county when they stop them. arresting people in cars as passengers for public intoxication even though the driver isn't drunk, this police force does not want its transmissions to be public record so they use cell phones with each other that are not monitored by anyone or any government agency, as they should and are supposed to be, this is just a short list, an audit would reveal much more.

just let the damn state take over and fix it.
