I am astounded by the amount of fuel that is wasted by some of the bus drivers in this county. You have a small bus where the driver lives out at the county line, his bus route is in town and yet he drives a bus back&forth home every day. That has to be a huge amount of money in fuel, not to mention tires and wear&tear on the bus. Then there a woman driver who lives around Blaine Creek and her route in up US 23 and Meades Branch and she drives a bus home every day, this is ridiculous. On the same note Mr. Thompson does not need to drive his vehicle home either, unless it is in the winter months.I am sure there are many more cases. I am sorry if they live far out but a lot of us drive a long distance every day to work and they are no different. This money could be spent on new buses, more food, or classroom supplies for the children.

You are so right. If the B.O.E. would just look for ways to cut down on the waste what a wonderful example it would set for the students that need right now to be learning how to economize as that is onething our youth is lacking in and usually have to learn the hard way, early bankrupsy that destroys their credit and lives many times. Sure they should be taught these things at home, but how do you teach them to concerve when they see their elders wasteing so much. We probably could save thousands of dollars on food products and gasoline as well as tires and repairs and heating and cooling and so many things that we could actually put that money to use in helping poorer students with books and supplies, you do know that some can hardly afford paper and pens, to proud to ask for help and suffer because of it. Lets demand that some accountability be put in place to stop this waste. These drivers should have to drive to the school and pick up their buses and park them there and drive home just like everyone else working does, no one provides their workers with a vehicle and the tax payers shouldn't have to either. Being a driver of a school bus is something that is a privelage not something that should be compensated with free transportation to and from work included in the package deal.

Privelage my foot you wish you all need to come to the bus garage and tell us drivers that face to face we will be glad to hand you the keys we don't get paid enough to put up with what you are requesting so there is a holelot more misspending than us driving a bus but i have said more than i should because we don't need the drama

I agree with #1 we all have to drive to work and so should they. I drive to Huntington every day and I make about the same money as a bus driver, my wife drives to Ashland every day. Why do they get free transportation on tax payer dollars? Get mad all you want but its just wrong.

OMG if you don't want to drive bus then don't! no one is forcing you to but the public should not be paying for your work transportation period!!!!!

The entire school system needs to be making cuts everywhere and yes that includes the transportation department as well. If a driver lives on a route and it is closer for him/her to take it home at night that is one thing but too many drivers do not live on or near the routes. Taking them home in the morning should never have been allowed to happen. I know a few drivers and all they do is complain and threaten to quit well then quit other people need jobs. Be lucky you have one, I was out of work for almost a year so I do not take my job for granted and neither should they. If you have to drive to it then Welcome, you are now like the rest of us.

The same BUS driver on 1760 take kids to school and then comes home. Stay a while then take back off.Flying back down the road. The bad thing is never takes the same route back to school. Then you might see it sitting at stores our some of his friends house. We the people pay for the gas and wear and tear on that bus.

This has been going on for a while now and the thompson guy always gives the same excuse the drivers will quit bullsh** they are like everyone else they need their job they are not going to quit and if a few do who cares you have subs and even a mechanic or 2 that can drive until you hire new ones. Grow a spine and put an end to this waste of money and spend it on new buses.

If you do not like your job then quit and find another one but good luck in this economy. My brother drove bus for several years said it was one of the best jobs ever, he had free transportation back and forth from work, only worked about 4 hours a day and no one really cared what they did or how they drove. So sounds like you have it pretty good. We all have to put up with stuff in our jobs and yours is no different but do not act like you have it so much harder than anyone else. I drive to Huntington every night to work and put up with more serious things than you see on your job so stop whining and you should have to drive your own cars to pick up your buses!

I hope to see this issue brought up at the next meeting, it should be and there should be some pressure applied so that this practice is stopped NOW. It is we the tax payers footing the bill for this gas, wear and tear as well as liability when this bus in on the roadway. The trip to and from school is liableous enough with children on board but when a driver is just messing around at walmart, foodcity, rite aide and other places even the post office and subject to an accident with the empty bus it puts all of us at risk, why? let the driver hit someone or cause an accident with injury and who do you think is going to pay the bills? It has got to stop and these busses and vehicles have got to start being treated as school property which they are and this private use and abuse stopped, go to the next meeting and slam this on the table and lets get it fixed, sick of it myself.

There a lot are people making a lot less than these bus drivers and they drive to work every day and I am one of them. Too much waste in everything with this school system and its time to put an end to it.

Why is the bus driver so defensive? No one said he or she was a bad driver or anyone else, the topic was they should not be driving the buses home all the time. Sounds like he or she is afraid they may loose a perk of the job. No one said it was an easy job or they could do it better. Fact is they should drive to work like everyone else, if you don't make enough money to do that then go get a new job. You have to be in better shape than all these people driving to another county or even state to work so I agree with a comment above. Stop Your Whining!!

That one bus driver that lives at the line and drives a small bus has no reason to take a bus home ever, his wife is a teacher at the East Elementary for heaven's sake. Common sense would be to ride in and out of town together.

To speedy I don't know who you are but I'm The driver on 1760 and I live on my route and I don't do that every day and I go back 32 way because it is shorter and I don't go to stores or I don't fly in my bus because that is a saftey hazard and I do agree that some are using alot of fuel but don't blame all of us because of them

There are good and bad in every job. I have stated before that I think most of the bus drivers in our county are good safe drivers, but a few are not. But the topic is all the wasted fuel, like it or not this is going to have to be stopped eventually. Every well runs dry sooner or later and I think most tax payers are fed up with the school wasting their money and always wanting more.
