i was waiting for that response. just answer this question. now actually take time to think about it. would it be cheaper for the shelter to adopt these animals out for a cheaper price or keep them in a small little cage with very little human contact for months at a time.which is better for the animal.
True. I wish that could be, but being I used to work for the vet, I know that the cost just, and I do mean Just, actually,, not even covers the cost of the shots and spay and neuter. I've heard of some stores "Petland" orwhatever, hosting discounted shelter animals for half that, or $25, but they still must sign that they will have the animal fixed. A spay and/or neuter, insures that there will be less puppies/kittens producing the same problem. I don't think they put them in a cagefor months at a time, and our own shelter lets people volunteer time to play or walk dogs...I know bec I asked 2yrs ago, as a "sort-of" job for my daughter, and they said, sure come on in. Butyour right, it would be nice to get them for a whole lot cheaper, but as I said before, I got one for free, and it's been $20 and up all three times...and she is still to young to fix, so when it's all said and done, shots and spay I'll have about $150 in my free dog.

And what facts do I have wrong exactly? And at least I have the sense to post my name, and don't hide behind fake names. And I've never cared what people think, it's an open forum and I only comment on less than 10 of these out of over 2,000, why am I any different than any other Louisa person, who gets on here to comment? Except, that unlike you, I do not demean others. And I do not post lies or gossip. And I neglect none of my jobs, my animals are checked by me ev a.m. at 4:30a, I drive a bus and deliver children safely to school ea day, then I'm free to farm, make soap/lotion/cheese, work my goats and horses, then deliver children safely back to their homes each day, and I'm home again to check my animals, again, and then do housework and spend time w/ my family. Thankfully I have more time than ever, to do so many other things, as of this August. And w/ your attack on me and my character, we are now off topic.

By the way of facts, if you are refering to the horse topic on this animal posting...I know the man who owned the property, he was leasing to the owner of those horses which were abused, and taken to the lake. Our friend who owned the property, did not know that was going on at his property, and took action once he found out about the dead horses and the neglected horses. I also went out to the lake quite a few times while those horses, which were neglected, stayed there, and my friends, who were in the saddle club, along w/ myself, who also live on my road, were the ones who gave them medical attention and bought the food and other needs for them. They also traveled 16 miles 2x a day to do this. And there was a dispute over what would become of the horses, and my friends helped make a list of new suitable owners, and helped place the in their new homes. There was a dispute over whether the man would get to pay a fine and still get his horses back, which many wanted to attend that courthouse event, to protest, or pay a fine and loose them all, I know many were adopted out, as to whether he got any of them back, in the end, that I do not know...someone else made that comment on here. But I know the most of them were placed in new homes, some of which I know of. I also know the money you pay to adopt an animal from the shelter, covers their care cost while there, spay/neuter, and updated shots, which is far cheaper, than any other way, unless of course, you neglect the animals and do not give shots, and do not spay/neuter. This I know, from working at a Tri-County Animal Clinic, and from friends who adopt from there. So which facts do I have wrong, exactly?

your so right, Danielle, these people have nothing better to do, but harrass everyone. You can't have an opinion in this town, but they can. Don't lower yourself to their mentality. Explain nothing, I've been to your place, and you all do a great job, with what your doing out there. Be strong girl. Saw your back to writing again. I missed your columns.

YOU JUST CAN'T STAND IT, THAT SHE HAS AN OPINION, CAN YOU? LEAVE HER ALONE AND MOVE ON, TO YOUR SHALLOW PICKING ON SOMEONE ELSE, SHE IS A GOOD PERSON, AND WORKS VERY HARD IN EVERYTHING SHE DOES. TOO HARD,IN FACT, SHE HARDLY EVER RESTS, SHE IS ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING, AND STILL MAKES TIME FOR HER FRIENDS TOO.

The animal shelter in Lawrence county is ran on donations and adoptions. They do not stay in "small little cages". They have ALOT of human contact everyday. There are people that come to the shelter specifically to spend quality time one on one with these animals. Do you think the shelter doesn't have to pay for the spaying or neutering of these animals? YES they do. Which is included into the price. Even at the Boyd county shelter you would have to pay a minimum of $50 and it is ran by the county. So before you start making statements about the animal shelter, get your facts straight first.

Ok first of all they do NOT kill most of the animals, and they most certainly do NOT enjoy having to euthanize the ones that do have to put down. Have you ever lost a pet? Or had to watch, hold, or comfort a deathly ill animal that was having to be euthanized? If you have then you wouldn't be cold hearted and saying such mean things about the people who deal with this stuff on a daily basis, because of all the ignorant people who wont get their pets spayed or neutered. I hardly think the shelter is a money scam, considering they don't make anything off of the animals.

Do they take kittens at the animal shelter? I have five that need a good home and can't find anyone to take them. I really don't want them put down so I am looking for someplace or someone that would be willing to take them.

I sure wouldnt take them to the place that Debbie runs.. Sadies place or something like that. She will find them a good home if someone will give her a donation... then after the pet has all its shots, and in excellent health she will come on your property and steal it back, to resale the animal. Shes all about the money, and when u go to press charges on her shes goes M.I.A....

I love pets, I don't have one any longer because I simply don't have the energy or time to properly care for one. I get sick thinking about the old men and women in the Ray Williams villa that have old stinking dogs and cats they don't take care of them they just live with them. They smell and the home smells like a kennel and hair all over and this is supposed to be therapeudic for the residents?. our state and government have set down rules restricting the residents so that they can't have anyone live with them unles it is a court established caregiver or something to that effect but they will allow animals to reside with them and these people can bearly manage to care for themselves without adding the resp. of a pet. Roll this over in your mind, these people usually get foodstamps ssi or social security, income very minimal, get their utilities as cheap as few dollars a month yet they have pets to feed and take care of, have you priced a bag of dog or cat food lately?. What in this world has happened to the brains of supposedly inteligent people making such decisions?. Do you know the people that have pets will go hungry themselves to feed that pet or take it to the vet. and when the apartment has to be cleaned to rent to a new client it is destroyed by dog urine, feces and hair and chew marks and scratches all over the doors and our tax dollars pay for this. Our concern should be for feeding, clothing and shelter for our elderly and disabled that is burden enough but add pets and destruction they cause and it is sickening. Have you ever done home care and went into a place that you tried to hold your breath until you could get out again, have to get down on one knee to check a patient and have dog hair and wet knee from dog urine, not able to spend a few minutes in the stinch yet the person lives in it daily- insanity is what i call it. I love pets, but people that aren't able or willing to take proper care of them shouldn't have them. We are too concerned about the wrong things, t.v. commercials run concerning animal shelters and the plight of the animals far more often than one concerned about children and elderly, what's happening to us?. Time was when to have a dog inside the home was frowned upon in this area, now they have 3 or 4 or more some have 13 and 14 and live so horribly it has to be reported. Not in the Villa, in private homes of course. One lady had 11 dogs and 16 or 17 cats and was hospitalized for malnutrition, finally put in nursing home and her neighbors had to get rid of the pets. Shame on us for being so negligent in setting right priorities.

well i'm not cold hearted i'm just telling it how it is don't act like you are some kind of animal lover when it is obvious that the animals are euthanized just because they the (workers) do not want to deal or clean up after the animals it is sad that these animals have to abused and killed when they could be adopted out if the public was welcomed in to the shelter...thank u and have a good day!

Maybe she "stole" bk bec you weren't feeding it or it was running around loose again. I know her and she does a wonderfull thing there w/ the animals and takes great care of them...so shut up. I once sold an animal to someone, and saw the bad care, and knew they liked money more than anything, and I had to buy my own animal back on payments in order to save it...if i hadn't he would have starved to death...some of us have the guts to right a wrong...so be it.

You may not be cold hearted but you obviously have no clue of what YOU are talking about. Those animals are NOT "Euthanized just because they the (workers) do not want to deal or clean up after the animals" As I stated above the only time they are euthanized is when they are so aggressive that they cant be handled or when they are so sick they are too far gone. As for me being an animal lover... Who are you to judge?
