I am thinking about getting Ntelos but I was just wondering how good is the service. Do they get service in places like Paintsville or Prestonsburg? Everyone says they go off Appalachian Wireless, does anyone know for sure?

I recommend going with nTelos over any other providers in this area.

NTelos, Appalachian Wireless, Sprint, Verizon are all CDMA which is much better in this area. At&T and some others are GSM and don't work very well here...especially outside of town.

I've had Ntelos for about 6 yrs now, I've traveled everywhere from here to California and there is very few dead spots and those are dead to everybody. As far as Paintsville and Prestonsburg I have great service all the way up there and back except one spot on 23 going down a big mountain up there. I don't have all the extras on my package, just have a small day time package 300 minutes, but have unlimited night and weekend, unlimited roaming, no long distance, and I only pay 32.00 a month. PLus every two years when my contract is up, I go and renew it and get a free new phone. My daughter has the works on her package and loves it. I dont' think it can be beat in my opinion. We had tried AT&T first and kept getting charged roaming charges even though we were in the home area and they finally quit giving us a credit cause they didn't believe us. So we had to fight them to drop the contract. Have never had a single problem with Ntelos at all.

I have had nTelos since Christmas and love the coverage. I live in the boonies and get a strong enough signal to text and in certain places of my house can place phone calls. I was told that they use everyones towers. So that could explain why they have good coverage. I switched from AT&T because even in major cities, I could not get a signal. nTelos might be worth checking out. The girl in the office there is very helpful and will answer all questions. And trust me, I had alot. lol Good luck on finding the right phone for you.

Although Verizon's maps show little coverage, they do have very good coverage here because they work off of the same towers as App. Wireless and nTelos. nTelos, App. Wireless, Verizon, Sprint and Altell all use the same CDMA towers. All have exactly the same coverage. I prefer nTelos over the other CDMA companies because of cost and customer service. I recently had to switch from nTelos to Net10 because of my current financial situation and I really hate Net10's coverage. Net10 uses GSM towers, same as AT&T. I switched to Net10 because I can pay just $30 for two months service and 300 minutes with no contract. Eventually I may go back to nTelos.

Oh, you may be interested in StraightTalk,$45/month with no contract and you get unlimited minutes, text and web nationwide. Straighttalk is CDMA, so they use the App. Wireless towers. You will have to say that you are using the phone the most in Ashland when you go to buy it. They won't sell a phone to you if you put in Louisa's zip as the area where you will use it the most. Ashland Zip 41101. Straighttalk is a division of Tracfone/Net10.

Whoever you go with in this area, make sure they use CDMA, unless you will never leave town.

Yo Ntelos is lame. I pay my bill every month on the 8th so I allways call on the 1st to get my extention. But last week I forgot to call like i allways do right so they disconected me for 1day. Well 8 just found out that Ntelos is keeping my 300$'sdeposit for a year more because I. had a disruption on the account. Do now Im fucked out of 300$'still 09 11 instead of 03 11

The service is awesome actually. It's the bills that suck..I never go over my minute yet my bill is always more than what I was told it would be when I got my phone. I'm constantly having to call and have these extra charges taken off and every time I'm told it wont happen again lol...

nTelos is great! They offer a 98.98 deal with 2 unlimited smartphones with nationwide service! Best customer service I've ever had as well!

I have Ntelos in WV and I hate it! I don't get coverage in Wheeling or even Columbus Ohio. When my plan is up next month, I am going somewhere else. HATE the coverage but customer service is great.

If you want to pay 3x the price for the same coverage... but with slightly faster internet. Sure. Have at it.

As for the limitation of phones with CDMA capabilities available to ntelos... you can always pay someone(cough) to flash your phone with 100% Data/Text/MMS/Calling :)
