Am I understanding you right? Are you saying that tax dollars were spent paying people that were on the various committees?

They have paid "consultants", funds for "studies",funds for "expenses". And everyone can submit expense reembursement. Look at the balance sheet the city put in the paper. A LOT of money being dribbled out.$5,000 here,$10,000 there,$180,000 for Ms. Langston. I can't get an exact amount spent on the golf ball washing business or the call center; one figure is $175,000. I don't follow this too closely because it really REALLY gets me P.O.ed.

Ok, list the accomplishments of el do forward. They have had long enough to show something.
By my tally there are no new jobs, some people have moved here for the promise and turned around and left.
1. Spent a quarter of a million dollars ($250,000) on NYC consultant to tell us to change the brand of the city. Same thing TIP told us two years ago for a fraction of the cost.
2. Paid an over-rated, under-performing marketing manager to promote the promise. I Promise!
3. Cleaned up South Washington by tearing down some old buildings. Good move.
4. Hired a good-ol-boy consultant to tell us how to lose money washing golf balls. Yep!
5. Sponsored a Bass tournament. In Bradley County!
6. Scared off the Community College President with a oversized, under-funded convention center building project. He's better off now...so are we.
7. Bought 500 El Dorado Promise baseball caps for our high school graduates. Don't even ask what else we paid for.
8. Attempted to change the name of Main Street to Promise Avenue. No really!
9. Froze the funds for most projects until the convention center is funded. Except for the marketing manager's kitty.
10. Identified that the EEDB chair as a one-man show on the call center letter of intent.

And you say there has been nothing accomplished.
With a record like that the 2010 census could be devastating!

Don Wales needs to go!
He hasn't done anything noteworthy since he has been here. It's time to get a professional economic developer that brings people together and can produce results; real result, not hot air.

Well sure, let's bring in a "professional" economic developer from somewhere up north and pay him/her mega bucks to tell us exactly what we've been hearing for years....we need more jobs! Puleeeze!

If the forward is mishandling the ball, it's time for them to sit out and rest and let some one who isn't so tired and worn out mishandle the ball. I say we get rid of all of them and bring in the second string.

Cindy Langston informed members of the EEDB that she will resign effective December 31, 2009. Don Wales will “hang in there pardner” until his 401k gets back up to where it was before the recession began. Then he will consider quitting. Some contend that he has already quit!
