Just another person people have to be aware of or threatened of. Great job jail security!

>>> "The prison will stay on lockdown while authorities attempt to determine how Romero managed to walk away."

He walked away because there wasn't enough security? So therefore he could. And then opted to use feet & legs.

Pretty much a no-brainer.

Well, it is kind of like the state penitentiary where the officers sleep at night

Let me get this staight. He just walked away from the prison? I thought they had things like fences and guards? The concierge at that prison need better training on what their job duties are.

I think you can make a whole lot more elsewhere, and are safer too. My DIL is an RN in Tucson, makes dang good bucks, but works her tail off for it and long shifts. I'm right proud of her.

From the news account I saw, this guy just up and walked away! What part of prison does NM not understand?

There are no fences at the farm and the so called "officers" are too busy flirting with the female staff to have any idea what's going on with the inmates. Most of them can't even spell the word security. Susanna, don't apply there! Believe me, it is NOT a good place to work.

I worked at the los lunas prison for five years. All the officers do at night are sleep and pass the drugs. That prison has big troubles

Same thing during the day! It's not just Los Lunas. It's all the prisons in the state. I left when I realized the inmates had more integrity than most of the staff. If the public knew what all actually goes on there, they would freak out. I shouldn't laugh about it, but it's all I can do anymore. Things will never change there.

Everyone should be dissatisfied with the Los Lunas prison. As big as NM is, it would be difficult to find a prison in another state where the local citizens move in and build homes surrounding the facility. There's hundreds of miles of deserted land in this state, and yet the prison is conveniently located close to communities. Same way in Santa Fe. This must be some wierd psychological link that the NM community has to prisons and prisoners. Maybe the thinking is that there's not that much difference between Joe public and Joe prisoner. It's totally strange and stupid to boot.

Well sure the guards are corrupt, they are the bottom feeders of the law enforcement system. If you include the police, the judges, the jails and then the prisons- the guards rarely have high school diplomas, and are so close to being prisoners themselves it's not even funny. It's no wonder the prisons are very close to communities and the guards are very very close to the prisoners. Another state prroblem for Bill Richardson to overlook and instead work on issues like hostages in Columbia where he can get publicity .

This story is misleading from the git go. There are 3 prisons in Los Lunas, the diagnostic intake center, the minimum restrict and the farm. The inmates can walk away from the farm anytime they please because there are no fences. The inmates at that facility are supposedly the most 'trusted' inmates and generally ready for release.

Romero just earned another 9 years for escape. This article makes it sound like a resort, believe me, it's a prison with dangerous felongs there, not residents. Those boys are there because they have been tried and convicted of a crime not because Los Lunas prison is a nice place to go.

I wonder if those of you that are commenting have ever been a correctional officer and put your ass on the line everyday! Yes there are some corrupt officers but the majority of them are honest and hardworking. If those of you think that you can do a better job go ahead!! See if you can deal with all the inmates shit just to support your family and when something goes wrong you get cut down by IDIOTS, see if you can deal with that. Dont cut down the officers lets face it sometimes shit happens no matter what.So for those of you who have not thought of any of this just shut the hell up, these comments upset those of us who have family as correctional officers!!

We just need to get him back behind bars before all the citizens in Valencia County blow a gasket!!! This placed used to be a safe, secure place to live....now it seems it's just a haven for dorks and scumbags!! Prison guards do have a hard job so let them have that..but just catch him and get him back!! If you have any leads, you should call and get him back where he should be.

I have a brother who is to get out in June and his longtime girlfriend of 9 years has passed away after a car accident in El Paso. Does anyone know if the prison ever allows an inmate to attend the funeral supervised? He is in level II

Thank you
