I am now worried sick.

A family member recently purchased a Westie for us as a gift. They knew we had been looking into getting a small dog and surprised us with our beautiful little boy. When they gave him to us, they also gave us the contact information for the lady they purchased him from - Judy Corbin. I looked her up and was shocked to find this article and all the complaints against her.

Our little guy seems perfectly healthy, but I am making him an appointment at the vet right away just to be on the safe side. I am passing this info along to the family member who purchased our dog from her, as they apparantly just called the number in the newspaper ad and didn't check into this lady at all.

this cruelty. isn't there a doggie cps. another thing is how can people afford to pay for a dog with the economy so bad. the animal shelters are full of dogs that need good homes. and i hear a lot less espensive. No i do not have any animals but my two dogs died from old age. my children will tell you that we treated those two dogs better than we did them at times. i think there should be caretaker classes for new owners so then there might not be so many strays getting hit by cars or starving to death.

If you go back to some of the comments you will find links to government sites that show charges are being filed against her. In order for this to happen someone will have had to show proof of her neglect and or abuse. If these are true and you have had good luck with this woman then consider yourself lucky. Just cause one is a breeder does not mean they are a good breeder.

Good point about the money. To also mention when a pet gets sick vet bills can be extremely high and it seems to me the ones that pay a lot of money for their pets are the ones that B-t-h the most about the vet bill. Adopt a shelter or rescue pet. You'll be so glad you did:)

This is an excerpt from an email I sent Milenkso Mom.....

"Good morning,

I read your comments on the Los Lunas Topix website this morning asking for people that purchased a dog from this person to contact you.

My dog came to me via a rescue organization in 2003. He was 10 months old at the time and was originally purchased from this woman by another family.(I have the documentation.) The family was having major personal problems and couldn't give the dog proper attention, so he wound up "in the system" and in my loving home.

Within six months, I started having skin/allery issues with him, but I understand this is typical of the breed. Eighteen months later, he started having stomach trouble that is still ongoing. I've spent the past four years, many tears/sleepless nights and countless thousands of dollars in vet bills trying to determine what is bringing my boy so much pain and discomfort. Ok, maybe THAT'S a breed thing too.

But, the thing I can't live with is the fact that now, last month my vet discovered a CONGENITAL, bilateral bone disease that has my dog screaming in pain and almost totally lame in both back legs. His treatment will most likely cost me $5,000 or more, but I will find the money one way or another.

The bottom line is this: puppy mill breeders care only about their profits and NOTHING about the animals! The conditions are deplorable and the breeding animals are routinely either killed or put out to fend for themselves when they are no longer producing. They live in small, cramped wire cages that also serve as their bathrooms and eating areas. They never receive dental care, or even basic grooming which - in time - causes them great pain. Their poor little feet are raw and infected from standing on wire all the time. And don't even get me started on their puppies (of which we both have). BTW, when you went to buy your dog, did this person let you see her "operation" or did she have the cute little puppies displayed in a more acceptable setting?

I would recommend you get x-rays of your dogs hips and knees now to see if s/he is predisposed to the suffering my dog is experiencing right now.

Bottom line: I would go broke spending if I could just get my boy healthy and feeling well so that he can be with me at least another ten years. He's only seven and I'm not ready to let him go. I truly hope you have better luck with your dog than I'm having.

Okay first of all I have just found out about the nonsense talk about Judy Corbin and her so called dog mill.. When I first met Judy to purchase a shih tzu pup from her I was welcomed into her home and shown the pups. she clearly explained that they had a 18 month health guarantee and that if we had any concerns to take it to our own vet and and if we changed our mind she would be more than happy to take the pup back.
It's been about 7 yrs since I purchased that pet and he had a clean bill of health .. we were so pleased with the way we were treated that we had went back and purchased another one from her. Now it seems to me that people dont use common sense when they buy a small breed dog. they can catch about any type of infections when they are a small dog. they tend to be closer to the ground and have smaller immune systems , so with the two hand in hand it is a great opportunity for infectious bacterias to reach the pet much faster.. so come on lets not blame everything on the breeder, its the knowledge that pet owners lack..
and say what you want to say about her and the kennel but lets face it at times as pet owners you
all tend to have your faults too... keeping them locked up all day while you go to work or leaving them outside all day while at work with no food..your not innocent either so back off no
one has published your crap all over. you have dirty laundry of your own too

With the millions of homeless pets that are euthanized every year, you should adopt instead of supplimenting a breeder's "income". You can find any breed you want from rescue groups and you'll be opening up a foster home that can take in another rescue.

You sound just like one of those irresponsible breeders who blame the buying public for purchasing your unhealthy animals and exempt yourself from any fault for producing such animals. Yes the public needs to educate themselves about buying from any breeders, yet we also need to make breeders responsible. Breeders should have to take courses on the responsibility of breeding their animals, should have to have a license, register and license any animal that is to be bred, have said pet vet checked, all off spring vet checked, shots, registered and micro chipped. They should also have to guarantee the health of the animal for 6 months (some issues like worms would be an exception) and for what ever reason if the people no longer want the animal the breeder should take it back instead of leaving it up to animal rescue groups and shelters to find a home for what you produced. The government has been lacks on making breeders responsible and it's about time they did. Make anyone who breeds their animal responsible and all other make them alter theirs. After all it is the animals that pay the ultimate price for human ignorance and stupidity and it's about time that we stop the killing of the innocent? BTW why didn't you go to a shelter or rescue group to adopt a dog? Or did you just need the social stigma that went with having a pure bred animal? Did you know that almost half the dogs in shelter are purebreds? The first thing most shelters do when receiving such a dog is to call the local pure bred rescue group (if that tells you anything) to come and get the dog. Yrs ago that would never have happened but because of so many irresponsible breeders breeding continuously too many animals and because even the money associated with said purebreds doesn't mean the are any less disposable. Pure greed on both parts (breeder and buyer) has made this industry what it is toady and it ain't pretty!

I purchased a yorkie from Ms. Corbin in 1998. This is the best dog I have ever owned. She is now 12years old, never been ill. My yorkie has never needed any type of medication, other than her annual shots and monthly treatments of frontline & interceptor. She is in excellent health. She still occasionally plays like a puppy. She never barks and is so sweet and gentle and obedient. I love this dog! If I could I would clone her. I hope she lives another 10 years. She is perfect. Thank you Judy. Can you get me another one just like her?

Best thing to do is get online and look up How to find a good breeder. This will give you tips and info on what to look for in a good and compassionate breeder. If said breeder refuses to not let you see the parents of the puppy that's a bad sign. If the place is filthy and dogs are running amok and no clean water or food bowls available that's a bad sign. If puppys are thin and or sickly then I would run not walk to the door to get out. Learn about the breed you want to determine if this is what you are looking for in a dog. Know how much it will cost per yr and what medical issues those breeds have. Most purebreds always have some sort of either physical or behavioral issues so it's best to know before you get said dog. IMO a shelter dog is best cause those dogs know they have been abandoned and or rescued and most are forever greatful to have a forever home.
