I used to cover the Butte as a reporter for KOAT TV in the early 90's during Memorial Weekend. There was debauchery, drunkenness, lewd behavior, people fornicating on the picnic tables, wife/GF swapping. It was like a porno movie, only it was real......Take your cell phone cameras people.....and then post it on You Tube.

The drunks and thieves who raided your camp and ice chest at night drove us away many years ago. As did those who shit in the showers and broke bottles on the beach leaving the pieces in the sand. EB is not a fun place during holiday weekends anymore.

I haven't been to the Butte since the 70's and it was never that bad, it was more family oriented. Too bad things changed so drastically.

Our last overnighter there as around 1990. A drunk ran into someones trailer not far from ours, another leveled a tent(nobody inside TG), our ice chest was stolen and I found it about 100yds down the beach by the trail of food(beer was stolen). The few items I had in the back of my truck were rearranged(nothing stolen but the ice chest). Several others nearby had their ice chests stolen too. Had two aluminum chairs stolen from UNDER the trailer that same night. Even had some AH(probably drunk or high) driving his car between peoples camps and the water(10'-20' max) who could easily have mowed down kids. Too many drunks driving the boats too(visions of Richardson there not too long ago). Was almost hit twice on my FiL's pontoon boat by drunks on the lake. Tried to tow the kids on an inner tube and all it took was one close call by an inattentive drunk. Then if you decide to go up to the store at night, be prepared for the DWI checkpoint which means any ice cream you bought to take back to others will be totally melted... Nope, its lost its fun as a family event on holiday weekends for sure. USCG, Police & Park Rangers can't cover all that area, well, maybe now with the water level way down but...

No one will recognize them sneaking up at night to catch them drinking underage. Then again.....they might just think it's another drunk El Pasoen driving around and over tents stealing coolers and such. I hope thet collect a bazillion in fines to help pay for the cleanup of broken bottles and dirty diapers left all over like a Walmart parking lot. The saddest part is you wonder what the death toll is going to be. Always at least one group of idiots who can't swim and have no life vests, overload their boat, select the least drunk person as the driver...who propmtly dumps them all in the water...at night...far from shore. Usually to be found 2-3 days later. Maybe Brad could author some "legislation" against that.

Although I do not think they need those humvees, they do need vehicles to get them out into the open and sandy areas of those beaches. Unlike our usual forms of government that just spend our tax dollars like there was no tomorrow. Check out the sheriff and police departments in the T or C area while you are downtown. This place probably has more modern vehicles than where you are from. A benefit of ripping off the taxpayers here.

EB sounds horrible during holiday weekends! I've heard nothing but bad things about the homies coming out to drink, fight and ruin the atmosphere for everyone with loud bass and music. It's the poor man's Lake Havasu. I'm planning on going another weekend and making sure we have firearms on us to protect against the apparent criminal element. What a pity, it looks nice from afar.
