Hotel occupancy down as summer season opens

Some local hotels were sold out Saturday and Sunday on Memorial Day weekend but occupancy for the week kicking off the summer season was 52 percent, down from 68 percent a year ago.

Where did you see a maximum figure of $70 a "few" years ago? That might have been the case 15 years ago, but not in recent years. Before it was The Dream Inn, The Coast Hotel was above $150 per night in the summer for quite awhile. Bed and breakfasts have been over $125 for quite awhile. As a matter of fact The Inn at Depot Hill and The Babbling Brook have been quite expensive for quite some time. Even the dumps on Ocean Street have been expensive for what you get, and more then $70.
