How sad. The only thing I can think of is she didn't have a cell phone and wanted to reach an exit ramp or some place she could call for help. A cell call to 911 would have summoned help and she wouldn't have needed to cross the 405 if that's what indeed happened.

I knew people who were stuck on this freeway last night because of this woman. I sympathize for her family, but why would anyone in their right mind try to cross one of the busiest freeways in California regardless of whether or not it was 5 p.m. rush hour or 12 in the morning?

She could have been in shock or had a head injury. Don't be so harsh.

Sad accident. She was already on the right side of freeway. Lots of questions but seems like no fault. However, how can u miss seeing someone walking across lanes of freeway???

Any driver that hits a pedestrian on the freeway should be prosecuted for manslaugbhter...
A pedestrian on a freeway is a rarity to say the least, and if the excuse is that it was not seen then the driver should be arrested, subjected to an eye test and failing that should stay in jail...
I drive daily and see things like people eating , drinking coffee and talking and texting on devices all day every day... I have even seen men , alone in the car, combing hair with both hands!
I ask you what is the sense in grooming yourself while you are traveling with a ton of metal moving along at 70 mph... oh wait... that would only indicate that the education level of such a person was limited... and from what I have seen on these roads... I can agree that is the case...

What? No fault? She was at fault!

And have you driven the Sepulveda Pass? It's 4 lanes both ways and packed at any time. Traffic flies through it when it is moving and people jump lnes, etc. There are also lights. So it's very easy to miss some idiot trying to cross it.

Stunned, no cell phone, whatever - you walk up or down the side of the freeway you are on to find a road emergency phone. She couldn't have been too stunned - she made it halfway across.

the freway is a dangerous place. So many people who are involved in situations do not recognonize how dangerous freeways are when they are not moving. For instance, being involved in a minor fender bender and trying to exchange information in THE MIDDLE of the freeway. Get over to the right. So many people are killed while at the scence of traffic collisions from subsequent traffic collisions. The latest CHP officer to lose his life in the line of duty was struck by vehicles who did not adapt their speed to the collision he was investigating and subsequently struck, leaving a wife-widowed and 5 children- fatherless. Pay attention when driving. HIGH-VISUAL HORIZON -which means look DOWN-and UP the road. Keep space around you vehicle so that you can respond/react to roadway hazzards. Constantly check your mirrors. Know your driving limits.

In this case, it is vague on what caused Ms. Burrise to put herself in the path of moving traffic. But people have been struck in situations like this trying to retrieve items as menial as a designer purse, baseball hats, etc.

It is a shame that the CHP does not list some of the performance driving tips that they teach their officers. The roads would be safer and more efficient because the skills they teach would allow 80-90+ travel in a safe manner. Speed doesn't kill. Not be a skilled driver does. Job security???

She was at fault. She put herself in a dangerous situation... She was basically "playing on the freeway". At 65mph a vehicle is traveling at 90 feet per second... The driver(s) who struck her are victims in this situation. She put their lives in jeopardy. Luckily she did not end up in the passenger compartment, which would have killed more people than just her.

People are so cruel to say anything about Kim's death. She was a beautiful person. She was not in her right mind to have walked across the freeway like that. She was very intelligent and nice. If you were dead she would not fix her lips to speak on why you did what you did to cause your own death. People have very dark and hatefull hearts that really need to be changed. Have some respect for the dead before your time is up and your family has to read that same disrespect.

MAybe if people would actually look out for one another a little more, a person in a dangerous situation would not feel the need to temp fate like walking across the fwy. Can you imagine knowing that someone would call 911 for you in a situation such as this particularly since everyone posting seems to know that there is always lots of traffic on the 405 regardless of the time. It also might not hurt for people to be a bit more observant regardless of being on the street or the fwy driving 65 mph. These are the anomilous situations drivers should be wary of.

This lady must have in a daze to do what she did.
Be more compasionate, and keep your eyes open. People are in such a hurry that they are not paying attention.
Say a prayer, and pray that it will not happen to you or to a member of your family.

Oh my Lord. She was already on the shoulder, what on Earth could she have been trying to get to across the freeway? How in the world can a pedestrian think they can slow down or outrun the cars on the freeway?

I feel bad for her family. How embarrassing to have to lose a loved one in such a ridiculous way. I don't want to be mean or speak ill of the dead, but I just can't imagine how she thought that would be a good idea, unless someone was trying to attack her or something and she needed to get away.

Are you kidding me? Who the heck expects a pedestrian to appear on the freeway??? And even if you do see them, how do you think you can go from 70 mph to a dead stop? Even if you manage to, there will be 20 cars behind you that can't, so the pedestrian is dead either way.

Yes, people are doing stupid things behind the wheel as they drive, but there's no indication that the person who hit her was doing anything but simply driving along. Your declaration that any driver who hits someone on the freeway, WHO SHOULDN'T BE THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE, is ridiculous. What if it happened to you? Should you go to jail if some moron runs out in the middle of the freeway, out of nowhere??

It has nothing to do with "being in a hurry" or "keeping your eyes open"! If you see her running across and are going the speed limit, how the heck do you expect to stop?? And if you do, you're about to be rear-ended at at least 65 miles per hour, so it's gonna either be them or you!

Nobody wants to hit a pedestrian, duh! What guilt that person must feel for the rest of their lives! But it was NOT their fault!

I absolutely agree. The moment a person sits inside an automobile of any kind...their intelligence level plummets 100 points.

California drivers are f*cking RETARDS. Find the drivers...and FRY THE B*STARDS
