Some L.A. freeway carpool lanes will become toll lanes

Full story: Daily Breeze

More than 60 miles of Southland carpool lanes on three freeways will be converted into toll lanes under a contract signed today by federal and local officials, according to the U.S Transportation Department.

Real Solutions -- Rail from San Pedro to downtown. Sounds good, but don't hold your breath. It would require massive growth in San Pedro as a destination to make any sense. Honestly, the existing commuter express bus service serves the area better than most rail would.
I think between the SP and the entire South Bay area (RHE, RPV, PVP, Redondo Beach, etc.} there are enough hapless saps like me who commute daily to downtown LA that they'd fill a train.

Everyone lobbying for a train, why don't you use the bus today?

Why is a train any better? Because it will cost us hundreds of millions in taxes?

Have you ever taken either. Big difference. Train is much more convenient.

So, what is the BS that we paid for when we pay taxes. Now we have to pay a toll so we can sit in traffic because I for one will not be paying it. I mean I pay enough in taxes. All those city people can kiss my a_ _.

Sorry to burst your bubble. I am not wealthy. I bought a hybrid before they were "cool" to do so because I wanted a good car that was efficient on gas. The perk was the sticker for the car pool lane, which I have been happily using until I saw this article. Sure, I get to work a little sooner than most, but since I was helping the environment, I felt this was earned. It always was a good feeling to merge into the car pool lane and get off the brakes after all the SUVs and BMWs wouldn't let me into their lanes. Being rich had nothing to do with it. I won't say I was smarter than everyone else, either-just had good timing.
It is great to see that your posting came from Rancho Palos Verdes. I think that the car was better on gas was a perk for you.

It is not more convenient when you have to transfer trains when you can use a single bus. It is not convient when it takes you more time (Greenline train station vs 444 at South bay galleria, which is a proposed extension of the greenline).

The train schedule is more conviennt in off peak hours, but I do not want to be transfer from the greenline to blue line during the off peak hours either. It is ghetto. Sorry, it is GHETTO.

I don't live in RPV and the address does not always indicate the wealth status of the person. Just take a drive around Beverly Hills, as an example. And, I would venture to say that a lot of the folks who DO live in RPV are anything BUT wealthy. Appearances can be deceiving.

Where do you live? I have heard people in San Pedro who steal their signal get the RPV on their comments. What is your classification for wealthy? What is the house worth that you live in. How much is your rent or do you own.

its true, the rich will use their toll passes and the average Off Duty Police Officer will be stuck in traffic,
I know it is a bit off topic, but one of the most annoying things I see on the freeway is non-highway patrol police units with one officer driving in the car pool lane. I wish they would be ticketed.

back on topic, we payed for these roads to be paved, we should not have to pay again to use them. they try this every couple of years, hopefully we can make enough noise to get them to forget about it for a couple more years.

Oh yes, CA likes to put on this image of trying to be green and encouraging efficient vehicles. But, when it comes down to it, looks like the almighty dollar wins out every time. Maybe I should forget the SUV all together and just get out of this stupid state."
Awww....someone's going to take their toy and go home.
This isn't a new concept to our region -- 91 has had express lanes for quite a while. I use them when I need to come over to Orange County in the mornings. They're great.
The freeways are public goods, yep. So are the telephone lines, sewer systems, buses, etc and you still pay to use those. The puny gas tax does not cover your necessity to slow down traffic by using the freeways at peak AND YOU CAN STILL USE THE FREEWAY FOR FREE.
Grow up, this is not 1950.
I don't think that the toll road on the 91 was ever a car pool lane, it was built to be a toll road, I believe it was also privately funded.

no one should have gotten those little stickers, you get the benefit of helping the environment and saving on gas, you should not be allowed to drive alone in the car pool lane. if anything, hybrids should be the ones waiting in traffic, it would probably benefit the environment to get the gas guzzlers where they need to go instead of sitting in traffic creating pollution.

It simply depends on where your ISP's Mux is located. Stealing signals from PV? LOL!

Well said.

The Gas Guzzlers are the ones that pay more taxes from their consumption of gas. These gas taxes help pay for the roads.

Where is this money going?-it may not even go to Los Angeles. Remember the freeways were paid for in the 50's.

Stupid, stupid sheeple. When did we have a vote to put these in again? Call your representative at least to see what they say since the mainstream media refuses to.

Once you have a taste of truthful reporting you never go back to mainstream contrived corporate media.

These hosts bash Republicans and Democrats equally because they know both sides are illuminati bought puppets out to screw us.

Give alternative news sources a chance before you knock them. Download these shows to your MP3 players and listen on your way to work or whatever. All you need from mainstream media is breaking news and traffic/weather. You can listen to all these shows on your smart phone as well.

These radio hosts should do a show together or at least make guest appearences on each others shows. They all value truth and liberty in their own way.

Here's my take on it. Don't be afraid to speak out as we are all on some type of list by now:
