Drama enthusiasts probably notice that many classics draw a correlation between high human intelligence (or at least, extensive education) and arrogance. Is this a coincidence?

Methinks not..

Ever since Adam bit into the apple of forbidden knowledge in the Garden of Eden, human beings have wanted to change the planet, to leave a fundamentally human foot print on the face of God, so to speak. The problem is, we are not as smart as God and we are certainly not as wise or as nice or as all-knowing or omniscient.

An excellent documentary on the History Channel recently drew this distinction between millionaries and billionaires. It claimed millionaires see the world as their playground, but billionaires see this life as their proving ground, i.e. some of them assume the mission of changing things to impact the lives of other people in large numbers in a way they consider an improvement for the rest of us.

My advice to them: start by cleaning your own house first. If you think for example that there are too many people on the planet and you worry about global overpopulation and want to make having children a matter requiring approval of the state, begin at home and limit yourself to one child only-- don't start with me and my family.

If you think you know better than a million bygone clerics and you want to throw out the Old Testament because it doesn't happen to fit your personal lifestyle, or you think your neighbors in the U. S. A. should dispense with state boundaries (like California) or international borders altogether (like the Union of North America), before endeavoring to impose your ideas on others, remember that morality and yeah, law, exist for EVERYBODY's benefit-- not just selfish, arrogant yours. It's all about taking a vote before you change the rules of this proving ground, at least in free countries.
