It just goes to show how out of touch the police are.Once upon a time the police were people that we respected. We had trust in them. They were honest for the most part.Sad to say that is not the case today.

He had been told more than once to move across the street (to where the video was being filmed from) AND to turn his car stereo down. He didn't feel like listening to the officers, so they approached and detained him. However, that being said, I do think there were more/better ways to handle the dog rather than just popping off rounds at it. Tazer, pepper spray, hell, even a baton if it came down to it. I've knew someone that fought off a much more vicious Rott with nothing more than his hands. But the owner is also responsible, had he listened to the officers in the first place, this most likely wouldn't have happened.

Shame on City of Hawthorne Police Department...!
Thank God for iPhone Videos....
When are the police going to go up and realize that is not a crime to video record them at work?
"Fascism and Tyranny has arrived in America wearing kevlar and badges while spouting "Protect and Defend" and quoting bible verses."
Why has Hawthorne taken down their Website ?
When are dog owners going to take their responsibility seriously?
The dog he said in a video was a family member. Why in the world would you take a family member to a police standoff and goad the police in front of the family member?
If they arrested him for recording then why wasn't everyone else that recorded not arrested. Mr Rosenby was the only fool showing his ass out there.
Mr Rosenby also seemed to be getting closer and closer to the scene. What if the standoff erupted in gunfire? He might have been hurt. He lived in the neighborhood so he probably knew the person in the standoff. Why was he so dramatic? Was he trying to draw officers away for some reason?
He could have quietly recorded like everyone else.
Mr. Rosenby was negligent with his "family member"and should be charged for not putting the dogs best interest before his own neurotic needs and bringing about the situation that caused the dogs death. Mr Rosenby had no right to put the dog out there like that. Rest in Peace Max.

Okay I am reading all this garbage about trigger happy police. Excuse me, but weren't the police out on a standoff? I mean you have a standoff to try and prevent killing the person. Isn't that what they were doing? If the police are so trigger happy then why didn't they shoot the armed robber?

Mr Rosenby disrespected his pet and was so foolish to even have his dog in harms way in the first place.
As for knowing when a dog, especially a big dog, jumps up to play.... Well I love animals but I am not going to take a chance.
My Grandson was bit in the face by a loving little lap dog. Just sitting there and the dog just snapped him up when he was only 3 yrs old. He had to have 7 stitches from the bottom of his nose to the top of his lip where it was completely split. He also had two puncture wounds to the side of his face. We didn't know right away if the dog was vaccinated or not. A terrifying ordeal. Hospital, stitches, antibiotics and the wait to see about rabies?.. Omg
The rights of a person still outweigh the rights of animals.
Owners of dogs have to be completely responsible for them.
If my sisters horses got out and you hit it with a car she is responsible for that. The driver is not the responsible one. Mr. Rosenby did not have control of his animal and he needs to own up to that. Not play this out for money! You know he will want money for this but he was at fault!
If I were that officer I would sue Mr Rosenby for subjecting me to a life threatening situation. Then sue anyone else that has defamed publicly and caused grief to the officers family! Mr Rosenby had no business taking Max out there.
Rest in peace Max.

I would have shot the damn dog too! The owner had no business out there antagonizing the cops with his dog. He was being cute for the camera. Let the cops do their job. The guy was causing a scene for the camera, when he should have been tending to his dog. Where is the owners responsibility in all of this? The Cops don't know this dog. His shot records of anything.....once your bit from a dog with rabies, its months of treatment! The owner had no business out there jacking around with the cops in the first place. Its his fault.......tell it like it is!
Absolutely.

Pepper spray doesn't effect most animals and tazers only have one shot. You miss and you get bit before reloading tazer. Take a chance of fighting it off with your hands. Sure get your hand seriously damaged then tax payers have to pay them and their medical bills. Think about it.

1. He stuck his nose in police business that did not concern him.

2. He blasted "music" from his car.

3. He let his 80-pound dog menace the officers' lives.

The silent majority of good people support the actions of the police.

STFU!!! Dogs are breathing, living, and bleeding beings, I DON'T believe in abortion at all but it IS legal if a woman decides or chooses to have her child killed! Start a thread about abortions, doctors who perform abortions or whatever but just to let you know, you're an insensitive "itch"!

Its as if the owner had "no role" in the events that transpired. You guys have absolutely no common sense. The owner is at falt for the death of his dog. Responsible owners do "Responsible" things. Antagonizing the police isn't one of them! He asked for it!

I couldn't really hear what he was saying, I did see him walking back and forth BUT he DID put the dog in the car. I can promise you 100% that this man did not intend for his dog to jump out of the window....I don't understand what's happened to humanity and compassion? That video was heinous and heart wrenching to watch!

Teresa, I think that your right in the idea that the guy didn't intend for his dog to get out of the car but you must understand is ....why did he place himself & his dog in that situation in the first place? He could have locked the dog "securely" in the car before engaging the police with his cell phone.
If my dog jumps out of my car & mauls a kid, whos fault is it? I didn't intend for it to happen but it did. Its the same thing. See it for what it is.

I'll preface my remarks by admitting I love dogs. I don't believe there are dumb dogs but many stupid people do own dogs. This dog had the misfortune of having a stupid owner. He appeared more eager to provoke a confrontation than to secure the animal.(It would have only taken was a moment to roll the windows up a bit) As far as the cops I wouldn't want even a small bite from that breed and if there was the slightest chance I would be bitten I would have done the same. In fact I think they demonstrated restraint. Maybe your job description says the first bites is free. The owners history has become a issue also. Other than seeming to being somewhat confrontational I cannot tell much more from the video. I will say that a man in my neighborhood walks one too. I have always got the impression he felt a lot bigger with his dog than he would otherwise be. Thats an idiot in my book.

I COMPLETELY understand your point. He shouldn't have been doing what he was doing but he has a mind of his own to know right from wrong, he chose to be in that situation. A dog does things out of instinct, yes he was barking but that man is who HE knew, I just think they could've handled it differently. My dog is 10 pounds and if someone touches me, she barks and jumps and is very protective...this video was just very hard for me because of the dog.

My posts aren't about that man, he obviously has issues...when I seen that video, then end of it has just lingered in my every thought. I owned a Rottweiler about ten years ago and had him for about ten years and yes they are intimidating but they're genuinely big babies but they ARE very protective. So I'm not defending this man by no means, it's just the dog...
