A very inspiring story, I have cronic pain too for the last 8 years. My Dr. told me that I have fibromyalgia. And every day I see it as a blessing because I am alive. So is good to see how other people cope with pain everyday. I will buy her book.

It's a great story and will inspire many others who suffer as Alida Brill does.

I completely agree that the doctor needs to get to know his or her patients, not just as a collection of symptoms and reactions, but as people. Yes, you have to look at labs, objective evidence, etc., but you also need to be able to listen to what the patient is saying, and listen and look for clues that will indicate what he or she isn't saying (and possibly why).

I'm going into primary care. I've gone back to school for retraining, first as a nurse, then into primary care in some shape, as an ARNP, or a Physician Assistant, or possibly (if I can get in) into medical school to become a physician. As someone who is herself a chronically ill and catastrophically ill patient as well a future practitioner, I commend Alida Brill and Dr. Lockshin for writing a book that will hopefully help effect a change in the attitudes too often seen in the healing professions.

Thank you for this beautiful story. I too have experienced that joy that comes from dancing the dance of life! As a person with a chronic disability which includes excrusiating pain from spinal and nerve damage I have learned to enter that state of flow described here and described by the psychology profession. I found that by dancing in that state of flow my muscles loosen and pinched nerves unpich. Sometimes I am too weak and exhausted to dance more than a few seconds, but every second helps. At other times I can dance for a longer period of time. I found that although I am not able to do many tasks that others take for granted, when I dance I can do them some. One point was left out here that also needs to be included and that is the treatment by other people toward a person with a disability. I have shared many accomplishments in my life inspite of the pain and suffering I go through on a daily basis. I graduated with honors, magna cum laude, with a 4.0 GPA in my area of expertise, which is psychology, for my bachelors degree, and I am currently in a Master's Degree Program. Taking a double load in a different area of expertise I have shared with people in public and on these forums my accomplishments to serve as an inspiration to others to let them know what is possible even while sufferring. Instead of being inspired though-many people have screamed and yelled at me in person or on these forums bashed me, calling me a liar. This is uncalled for and inappropriate. I have never lived in a city where the people have been so cruel. It is hard enough to have to deal with a physical disability, but to add being treated so inappropriately is a disgrace. Wake up people. I was in a vehicle that was struck by a red light runner. Last night I witnessed the aftermath of a horrible accident that left people injured. Another red light runner oviously caused the accident. One person I saw was being taken away to the hospital. I saw the gurney being strolled with the person on it. Another person from one of the vehicles was holding her back-obviously hurt. Will those people also have to be subject to the same abuse I have been subject to in this town? Will those people have to be yelled and screamed at and bashed by such cruel people in this town? It's time to wake up Redlands people.

Just because you have not achieved miracles in your life does not mean it is impossible. It means you didn't open up your heart and mind to allow those miracles to be achieved.

Are you a vet as I am and were you on the oxy forum some time back and there were some not so nice people there. I have encountered them, and their hate, both as as an individual and a USN-VET. Just wondered, because I have been treated similarly as a Vet, if what I have read is true. I have talked to them concerning their treatment of you and made sure they knew of my disdain regarding this. Never could find the actual posts. I am sure they were buried somewhere in the Cyber thread archives. Sincerely, Mystic Cherokee

No, and no to your 2 questions. It was in town and on the Redlands daily Facts Forums many times. I stood up against the cuts to public safety and the abuse and negect of our local city council and city manager. My information has been confirmed by more than one person yet there are people on these forums who are trying to discredit me. They have their sick agenda. I am sorry to hear it has happened to you. Don't let them get you down. Stand tall knowing that you served our country. You are appreciated very much by many people you may never meet. Let that knowledge give you strength!

Let me clarify that: the cuts to public safety were wrong and I stood up against those cuts to public safety. What the city council and city manager have and are doing and neglecting to do in this town is wrong and I stood up against what the city manager and city council are doing and have been doing. I also stood up in support of the red light cameras in town and I stood up for the RPD Air 10 plane which I have also been bashed for. Many of the bashers are city employees but not RPD nor RFD.

Check out the "Show the red, white, and blue" forum to get a good idea of the slander, character assasination, and bashing. They do not know who I am yet they make erroneous assumptions which shows me who they are. I have good reason to not trust any of them except for the ones I know in person who do know who I am and are not bashing me.

I find it strange that you would talk to someone on a forum about me that I was never even on. I know who I am, and so do other people. The people doing it are lacking in not only information but also character. This is the least friendliest town I have ever seen, and I have been in many across at least 38 states. A highly regarded consultant also tried to tell the city council this, but it went in one ear and out the other. He did a large study on this town.

SORRY! Just saw your Posts from seven hours ago. Must be a mix-up in Screen names. This Vet gentleman had been on the forum, not long before I. Couple months I am GUESSING. Screen name I"M DONE. Similar, but no cigar for me. Thats why I asked.

There was continued discussion, well after the fact, and this was the first forum I had ever been on.Hadn't even been in chat rooms or anything. Being computer illiterate just about, it took me a while to learn to navigate and such.
By the time I got the idea to pull up,Im Dones conversations w/ "these people", I really couldn't find much of anything.

It was rumored that they were pretty hard on him and dont quote me, but I believe he was a double amputee, and served in The Vietnam War.Roxicodone, Oxycontin, Oxy coidone Forum, a select group of people , it is rumoured ran him off. They were very mean, as I understand it, and believe they they were. I came not long after, and got the same treatment. I was more tenacious and stubborn, bored, and hung around.
See, I'm "layed up", due to a progression in my Chronic Pain. Had a heck of a time getting treatment. Im very sensitive/allergic to a lot of Meds. and just came off of one I was on for 7 years. Really having a problem finding a med. I can take. It has just served to lengthen my down time, that and my naivete to pain meds. in general when I started. Greedy Doctors really give ya the run around (whole nother story), and I'm not in runnin condition:)

Sounds like you have a worthy cause there. What they say about fighten City Hall is true , though. Been there, done that. It sucks and yeah, paryticularly with everybody bein able to go on the Net, you get Bashers. I'd (speaking from experience) watch letting it envelop your life, I've been there and it can become an Obsessive thing. As you can tell, some people just dont care if you are doing a GOOD thing, TO HELP THEM. Those are the kinda people(haters) that will always find some otlet for their venom, perhaps yours is convenient for them. Good luck with that, and like you said, dont let em get you down! By the way, I hang out around the Meth site now, try to help people detox. from this crap. theres a young lady over there , who was put on this stuff BY HER DOCTOR and she's only 21 and addicted to the worst drug to detox. off of that exists, unless there is something I am unaware of. It's a darn shame, they should lock these doctors up. They put people on this stuff with nary a word about the consequences. It makes me sick! Have a great day and thanks a lot for posting back. Red light cameras are not proven to reduce accidents as advertised. They are simply a cash grab by the owners of the cameras and the cities that allow them to be installed. They provide zero judgement that a police officer can provide. There is no real upside to them except collecting money for cities. I guess if you view that as an upside. I hate sitting at a completely empty intersection at 4:30AM waiting for the light to change just so I do not get my car photographed. Thankfully Redlands only has 1 camera I know of. Too bad I have to wait on it every morning.

I was crippled by a woman who intentionally ran a red light. Had there been a red light camera at that intersection she would not have gotten away with her crime. While I have heard from a reliable source that there are cities who do use red light cameras in an abusive manner to brings funds into their city, Loma Linda is the one I was told about, by setting the timing inappropriately, I know that Redlands does not use suh diety tactics. I know for a fact that Police Chief Bueermann is an honorable man and he specifically will not permit such abuse. You are admitting here that you are a red light runner and the only thing stopping you from running a red light at that intersection is the camera. I hope you get caught. You are a prime example of why the need for red light cameras.

Don't worry-I have a lot more to do that to obsess over these forums!:) I am glad you are helping people get off drugs. I have helped a few people get off drugs in my lifetime. Yes, the doctors need to be held accountable for their pill pushing. It's pathetic what they are doing. I refuse to take pain pills. I would be dead if I had listened to the doctors. I just wrote you a lot, but I had to stop in the middle of it, and when I returned I finished writing it but it took to long and didn't post. Be careful because I have had my post name stolen by impostors-the bashers, and they posted a bunch of lies using my post name. These forums are not good. There are too many people on them with alterior motives. To deal with the pain, I meditate, deep breate, and dance along with epsom salt baths with aroma therapy. I did my own physical therapy because I never got all of what I needed from doctors like EMS and ultra sound. I studied a lot of medical stuff along with nutrition and alternative medicine. I make my own herb teas from herbs I grow and am otherwise healthier than most people. people with my damage are in nursing homes, but with the work I did on myself I am able to walk part time. I have a life because I did the work to ensure it. Take care! Thank you for your service to our country!:)

What an inspirational person, and I am looking forward to reading “Dancing at the Rivers Edge”. My journey with my illness is teaching me how to embrace life. This is something that comes with time understanding that to live with it and not let it control me, and my life.

I have ordered prescription drugs (without a prescription) online from http://inhousegeneric.info about two years ago, and was pleased with the speed and quality of service.
I'm thinking of doing the same thing with my medication. The meds is expensive, but there is a generic version available overseas.
I love the idea of taking responsibility for my own health (or lack of health) and skipping the bureaucracy... to say nothing of having to drive to the doctor, wait in line, yet again, to get a prescription refilled.
