I wonder however if these kids are 2nd generation gangbangers and the parents are gangbangers too. A lot are raising thier kids to live like this knowing what could happen to them. So if the kids parents are gangbangers then they choose this kids destiny.

But those are just adjectives as far as I'm concerned. A jerk is a jerk, and a racist is a racist...doesn't matter what color, size or shape. I see people for what they are, and i have raised my child to do the same. He didn't even know our neighbor was 'black' until my mom informed him. She was of the generation that still used the word "colored" rather than "black/african american" so imagine his surprise when Grandma asked 'who is that colored kid'? Needless to say, i had a little chat with Grandma about being politically correct.:D

Ha, Ha, Ha, I love it! Yep, I can relate. Unfortunately, as you have stated it does start in the homes, and as I was growing up, I NEVER heard such racist comments from my parents as I noticied them welcoming many into our home. That was back in the 60's and 70's.
I, however, have found myself changing, and not necessarily for the better in the sense that my children may be hearing me sometimes utter some of my new negativities. May god help me.

Comical story to share with you: a friends daughter got in trouble at school (she was in her early teens) for calling someone a "Black F***** Ass****" Her Mom, who had quite the potty mouth herself, jumped all over the girls case about it. She said, "black was racist, F***** is a verb, but anyone can be an Ass*****" I had to laugh, but she did have a good point. Anyone can be an A***, or a jerk, or whatever. And the racist spouting usually comes from a racist.

I know what you mean, though, about saying things we shouldn't. Sometimes our frustration levels get so high that things just pop out of our mouth. But, I guess that's part of being human. We just have to be careful that we don't start believing and behaving like the occasional 'blip' that slips out.
