I actually QUIT teaching in LAUSD because I was sick and tired of giving stuff away free to illegals while working my BUTT OFF to make ends meet for myself and my child. If they can sit at home, make babies and get free assistance, why can't we provide a little help for our LEGAL citizens who are fighting every day to keep our heads above water. If an illegal immigrant commits a crime, he / she should be deported immediately - not set up to live on our dime or let out to roam free on our streets and hurt our citizens. Not all illegal immigrants are bad people but they are NOT law abiding citizens - by definition they are ILLEGAL!!! Either immigrate legally or get out!!!

I'm not sure dialougue and policies are going to help. We just need to be tough on crime. Cops need to be in thier face and in thier neighborhoods. Show of force is the only way.

Councilmen such as Richard Cardenas favor million dollar budget funding for anti-gang non- profit agencies. The problem is the aide goes to career gang members who have no intention of ever quitting gang life. Instead, our councilmen and antigang project directors should redirect the funding to youngsters who have not yet been exposed to gangs. Lets rehabilitate those who can be saved and not divert tax payer money to irrevocable hard core gang members.

McIntyre sounds like the typical knee-jerk reactionary ... and he's a poor writer to boot. His line that includes the phrase "Had Jamiel's killer been white,..." is the same kind of manipulative speculation we hear from folks like that drive time duo on KFI (who shall remain nameless, if not shameless) and other miscreants with microphones. It's too bad he managed to make an important issue and a moving, tragic story sound like nothing more than a personal rant.

I do agree with some of what Mac says, particularly the part comparing the Villaraigosa administration to the Vichy government of World War II France. That line is clever and sadly, mostly true. For a real scary story take a look into hizzoner's relationship (and that of Janice Hahn) with "former" gang members. Um, well, it never did. The name of the city is "The City of our Lady Queen of the Angels". The city is named after Jesus' mother the Vrigin Mary, not angels.(The full name is "The City of Our Lady Queen of the Angels of the Little Portion" [little portion was a small tributary flow off a larger river in the region]. The area had long been populated by native American Indians when the Spanish arrived.
