Praising God With Song.

We thank thee Lord for vouchsafing unto us thy wondrous gifts of childhood leukemia, multiple sclerosis, disfiguring acne, earthquakes, floods and famine. Thou art so great and mighty.

Sorry, that wasn't God's doing, it was Satan's work.

We have a separation of Church and state.

Not sex and state.

Pwnd!

BTW, your comment was insulting. Imagine if it was said:

"We can dedicate an entire month to Black pride, but can't set aside a couple of hours to praise and worship God...Wow, what is this country comming to? "

"We can dedicate an entire weekend to Irish pride, but can't set aside a couple of hours to praise and worship God...Wow, what is this country comming to? "

<quoted text>Yes I am a christian and proud of it.If your turned off it's not because of christianity(JESUS AND HIS TEACHING's)Your more than likely turned off at the fact that some of us christians are tired of the way this country is headed because of people like yourself, who think that gov't is your god and don't like to be told how they should live.(like the bible suggests)You want all the freedoms of a christian nation(or post should i say) but no accountability moraly speaking. If this "little worm" has scraped the surface of your prideful sensability's I don't apologize. GOD BLESS YOU.(sorry if that also offended you)if it did than "gov't bless you!" ..........
. No, we don't want the freedoms of a christian nation, we came to this continent to ESCAPE a christian nation, and its heavy handedness, the very same heavy handedness that would QUICKLY become law if there was no seperation of church and state(which was the target of the legislation), we want the freedoms of a true democracy. The two things are dramatically different. That's not to say we've handled democracy particularly well. We've allowed the rich (a minority) to take control of the nation and legislate almost exclusively in favor of themselves, proving that absolute total democracy(and capitolism) do not work. No single existing political ideal does. They all need moderation(some wayyyyyy more than others). Christian rule would be horrible in a very short period of time, and even the good christians would want out as despots took over in increments, using their greed and gods word to rule with an iron fist, just like good old george.

I agree about choosing, but that should not mean that policititians can't celebrate their religion.

Had this been about islam, then the liberal left would not have said a word against it.

I don't agree. Freedom 'of' Religion means just that...it's both ways. You are free to chose (and 'Atheism, no matter what you think IS a subtle form of a 'religious' aspect) to believe OR not to believe in, not the 'government.

True, but then...do you really expect the 'news media' to tell the 'truth' about anything?

I believe that the constitution states that we the people shall have freedom OF religion NOT freedom FROM religion.
If this had been a muslim festival, the outcry against it would be minimal and dismissed by those politicians in charge. Since it is about Christians, the nuts will come out of the wood work and Dee might apologize.
<quoted text>
That's rather like saying "freedom of speech" does not allow you to remain silent if you choose since it says nothing about freedom *from* speech. Thus torturing a confession out of someone should be legal since they have no right to refrain from speaking by your logic.

Had it been a Muslim festival, a hell of a lot of you christians would be having hysterics; foaming at the mouth, threatening lawsuits etc since a lot of you only want freedom for *your* religion, especially that tax supported freedom you love so much. Just like the thousands of complaint letters organized christians write to the Postal Service whining and moaning when they put out stamps honoring other religious festivals than your own select few. Had it been a festival for "pagans" or atheists, there would have been death threats and open violence from the followers of the "prince of peace".(I always wonder how he got that title since he specifically said he was not here to bring peace but rather a sword. Which he certainly proved by smiting that poor little fig tree when he had the munchies and the tree had not yet produced figs, it being the wrong time of year and all..)

The government has no business favoring one religion over another or religion in general over no religion. You want your god's name on your money? Get out your pen and add whichever god you favor on your own.

"It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my arm if a man have one god or many gods or none at all." Thomas Jefferson

"...no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States" U.S. Constitution (hardly likely to have been written by devout christians wanting to establish a Christian state now would it?)

And just who created Satan? Christians specifically deny dualism. "Satan" was created by god and is, was and always will be of a lower stature with no powers other than what god chooses him to have.

Unless you wish to claim this satan has the power to create life out of nothing, which I am told is the big he-god's private domain and one he is pretty jealous about.

Your own holy book states that *nothing* happens without god's will.

Your own holy book also states that only humans among all the things god created have free will. Thus satan is dancing to god's tune all along and in every way. it's a rigged game and he knows it.

Maggie., so if it's not cool to have a religious festival, then explain to me why does the government observes Christmas as a holiday? Don't you think it's hypocritical on the government’s part? Remember that on this day, every nation looks forward to celebrate Jesus Christ.
Christmas as done in these modern times is not considered a religious holiday for government purposes. That's why Easter *isn't* a holiday as in a day of for Federal workers etc.

Numerous court cases on the subject and the government's own statements make it clear.

Oh and *not* every nation looks forward etc...in Saudi Arabia, China and a ton of other places Christmas gets about as much notice as you give Yom Kippur and the various holy days associated with Buddhism.

Most thinking Christians (both of them in fact), will tell you Easter is far more significant and that Christmas really isn't terribly major in terms of how your own professed religion regards important events.

The only reason it ever gained any traction was because it is tied so closely to Solstice celebrations and the competing Roman cult of Sol Invictus (The Unconquered Sun, a major competitor in the religious marketplace at one time)...the early church in a wizard marketing effort tied this otherwise unimportant day (Christmas) into what the "pagans" considered a very major day...the rebirth of the Sun and the eventual return of spring.

Your Jesus wasn't born in winter, no one has the slightest idea when the date was in the cycle of the year...that's how important the gospel writers considered it. But shepherds did NOT graze their sheep in fields in December in that part of the world as they did not want sheepsicles and there was not sufficient grazing in midwinter for the sheepies to nosh.

Heck, the bible tales are so garbled no one even knows what *year* the birth occurred since the fairy tale mentions events that didn't happen (Caesar's "worldwide" census and Herod's alleged slaughter of infant males) and has a couple of key historical figures rather out of place as their reigns do not line up properly.

And this would be your idea of apologetics? Or some new form of "witnessing" to win 'souls" perhaps? If this is the christian response, I'll take whatever is behind door number 3.

Sadly, it *is* the typical response most christians have to criticism of their beliefs rather than engaging in dialogue or refuting dissenting claims.

"It's true because I believe it is true" is about as far as most of this sort can achieve.
