Well you're screwed. Even with a complete delete the business must keep any and every topic stored incase of a Federal Investigation for 40 years.

Hi opie,

I understand that you want to delete your Topix account.

I don't even have a registered Topix account with the profile avatar handle thing yet. I'm just a lowly grey box poster for now and I recently just came back on Topix after being off for 2 months. But I seem to recall your name "opie84" and reading some of your posts a while back but can't recall what they were about.

I think you can find the information you're looking for on the Topix FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) section. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the screen and you'll see a area called "About Topix". Just click on "FAQ" under it. You should find a section there about Topix account deletions.

However, you may also find a remedy for your situation by contacting Topix directly and explaining to them your situation and requesting them to delete the controversial posts that your friend made using your account. Just tell them where the posts are (forum and thread locations and the post numbers). Then your name could be cleared and you can still be "opie84" posting away and having a good time on topix.com without worrying what others may think about you when they read those posts made by your friend in your name. You can click on "Feedback?" to directly contact them. You will find it right above the "FAQ". I never have used the "Feedback?".

You should also find information there in the "FAQ" about changing your account password. You may want to do that immediately for the time being. Your said friend may still be able to use your account on another computer if he or she knows your password and cause further controversey for you.

Good luck.

By the way, "opie84" is a cool name. It really stands out. Hope you can keep it. Even if you feel the need to create a new Topix account, due to your friend, maybe keep the "opie" part or the "84" part in your new name.

I'm curious as to knowing how an email could be attached to a Topix post in a Google search. How does that work? Do you also have to have a Google email account?

Hey opie,

Are you talking about your Topix account or your Email account? Which one did your friend use?

Are you "opie84" in both your Topix account and your email account?

Oh and another thing.

I notice that your location is hidden according to your on-screen avatar handle thing. Even if someone did one of those searches you describe, why worry? As long as any Topix posts made in the name "opie84" do not have revealing personal details as to who you really are and as to your actual home location, you seem to be safe. Anonymously safe.

here's what the Topix FAQ sayz:

How do I delete my account?

We do not delete Topix accounts, but If you really don't want to be part of the Topix community anymore, simply delete your profile photo, the answers to your profile questions, and your Favorites. Log out, and your account will become inactive. You will be able to log back in and start posting again if you change your mind in the future.

Please note that your forum posts are not removed, as it is too disruptive to the remaining content.

Exactly. They are watching every move these fools make! The lesson to be learned is to never let anyone use your account.

Topix doesn't delete or archive anything. They do not moderate well or have controls to keep things relevant, fresh and manageable. You picked a totally out of control website to join up. There is alot of info at this website here. You might want to take a look.
