Anyone know anything about MI Window and Door Company? I was looking at changing out my windows with new vinyl ones and am looking at the MI Professional Series Window. The MI Professional Series Window that I am looking at quailfies for the new stimulus tax credit of $1,500. Anyone know if MI Professional windows are a good replacement window?
Todd: Check out the weather tightness of these windows very thoroughly. I am the first owner of a condo in N. VA. 6 months after moving in during a rain storm I had puddles of water on every window sill. The windows leaked. The builder replaced the lower sashes and the leaking stopped. During the January 2010 snow storms all the windows let jets of cold air into our home. Between snow storms, the builder attempted fruitlessly to stop this with new weather stripping. Didn't work and the builder now says tough luck; he has done all he can.

We built our house in 2001. We have had two windows recently fail (cloudy - broken seal) I am afraid what will happen when the warranty runs out in a few months.

MI window warranty is has a lot missing. NO Glass Breakage and labor warranty. MI windows has so many warranties it is very confusing. Ask to see the MI window warranty from the dealer you are buying the windows from. Make sure you keep it in a safe place because eventually you will need it. I find the dealer is usually no help at all.

I have still not gotten my windows warranteed. I purchased them from Lowe's but they dropped the ball and now I am left dealing with the company directly. When I purchased the windows, I was told I had a lifetime warranty against everything including if a rock hit it from the lawnmower. The sales pitch made them sound so great. About half of the first one's I got had dirt inside the double panes so they promptly sent me a second set and had them installed. I guess if you had problems when you first bought them they took care of it. After that, it seems you are on your own to stumble through the warranty process. I would do my homework and try to find someone with better after the sale customer service.

In 8 years 10 MI 8500 series windows have had to be replaced because of failure of the seals.

That's not a good ratio when it comes to seal failure. Did they fix it under warranty? If not how much did it cost you?

Probably a little expensive but don't know the particulars like how big the windows are and what options(lowe, argon, tempered, grids) and installation.

MI makes low end windows. Warranty is horrible.

I have a home built in 2002. It had MI windows installed in them - series 3500. Every top pane window has failed. MI has honored the warranty, but really, should all the windows even fail?

MI Windows are the worst!!!!
Their product is terrible and customer service is even more horrible!
We purchased our new home furnished with MI windows and doors and in that time our slider door has been replaced as well as over 15 windows from seal failure.
If you have a choice in buying their products BE AWARE, and choose another company!!!
Their customer service is a joke, as well as their product!

Two window companies to stay away from are MI Windows and Amsco Windows. Both companies warranty service is horrible. Contractors love them because they are cheap but they aren't the ones that have to live in the home with crappy windows.

My home was built in 2002 with the same 8500 series windows and I now have 14 of 26 windows with seal failures. Since I am the 2nd owner of the home (the builder lived in it for a year) MI will not back the warranty so I'm stuck with an $8000 repair job and I'm guessing the other windows are soon to fail as well. Their customer service is horrible and rude, no help at all. Stay far, far away from MI because they do not stand behind their inferior products and you (or the person who buys your home from you) will pay dearly.

I tried to put a standard air conditioner in one of my new MI windows and could not install it. I had to end up using a smaller sized compact unit. I am wondering if there is a way to put a standard size unit in these windows.

I have the 8500 series MI window and have had to replace 3 when we bought the house (2nd owner) and 4 more a year and a half ago and now I have to replace 8 more.
These guys can talk all they want about moisture etc. but I'm here to tell you MI windows are inferior all they way around down to the grumpy person who I talked to on the phone at MI customer service.
I would "NOT" recommend these windows to any one - period.
I've owned 8 homes in my life time and never had a problem with windows like this.

I have a 2 year old Modular home with MI 3500 windows. I live on Sandusky Bay on Lake Erie and I have had nothing but problems with the windows leaking in air. I do realize I do have stong winds on the lake but the air leaks will put out my lighter. MI came out and put on a few new seals and gave me like some sponge things to put down each side to see if they would quit leaking. They are in warranty but MI says there is nothing wrong with their windows. I am probably going to replace them soon as my electric bill will get over 700.00 in the winter.

We have estimates from 3 companies for vinyl replacement windows, double hung windows. After reading all the comments, the oldest 1 appeared to be 9 years old & not good results for MI. One with MI Silver DH All-Weld, also looking at Gold DH All-Weld (LowE). Another with Andersen White Silverline #8500 Series. The last is Champion Comfort 365 Glass. Any help is appreciate because we have to make a decision soon to get the windwos in by 12/31/10. Thanks.

I bought MI Windows two months ago (1650 series) and they are GREAT! I actually spoke with the sales rep and he was very professional and seemed to really care about our needs. I highly recommend!

I am a window installer and dealer in NJ, I carry Pella. I can do better using a major brand like Pella.
If interested contact me at [email protected]
hopefully you chose to go with the MI brand. Pella windows is nothing more then the name. Service is terrible and the product it self is not worthy of the price. MI windows is a top of the line vinyl unit with well insulated values. plus the warranty you get with MI is well worth it.
