Mike in Granada Hills or Englewood, CO: I would bet you wouldn't know the difference between a gay or straight cop if they were standing side by side.
Kids don't look up to cops as role models. They look up to gangsta rappers, no-talent people like Brittany, but not to policemen. When was the last time you heard a kid say he wanted to grow up and become a police or fireman? |

1 How long is he going to be the victim here? I guess as long as the profitability continues. But as another post said, if a firefighter can get millions because he was fed dog food, why not try to jump on the cash bandwagon? |

Don't be so sensative. It's not the gay card it's about work ethics. Get your panties out of your butt!

Well so your saying that you dont think ther's a place in the police department for your son? With those comments wouldn't it be funny and ironic if your son was Gay and wanted to be a cop! I mean you being homophobic and all! |

1 But I doubt that Mike - granada hills/daddy salvi really cares. In fact I think it probably makes him smile. I hope he never has kids that think like he does. |

How about graduating #1 from the LAPD Academy, and starting gang intervention and graffiti removal porgrams, working with homeless organizations to help the homeless off the street and being #1 in arrests for felons? But being forced off the job because of my off duty activities? As long as you are willing to take a bullet to protect others - military or police - does your sexual orientation matter?

You have my backing Mitch, way to hang in there after all these years, and how many males are on the "down low" and their wives don't have a clue.

1 If anyone should be sanctioned, its the juror who failed her duty. Now this will cost the City of Los Angeles another big sum of money to go through another trial. Forget the fact this officer is gay; the juror screwed up. Not the LAPD. |

It's been years since kids looked up to cops and those probably came from families that were never harassed by them. When is the last time a cop assisted one of your friends or even yourself in a situation? Probably never. Cops are human just like us and therefore should be able to be in what ever type of relationship they chose to as long as the parties are consenting adults. I've been in a gay relationship for 13 years and wouldn't have it any other way, and for the record I am a mother of 2 and stepmother of 2.

yesterday, I formally retired from the LAPD after nearly 23 years. Since 1991 I have served this city as an openly gay officer. I know something of this officer and understand why the jury found as they did (in favor of the City and LAPD).
First of all this disgruntaled officer continues to identify himself as a "LOS ANGELES POLICE OFFICER" yet he has NOT been employed since the mid 1990's! This in someways is a crime and he should be arrested for "false impersonation." This persons lawsuit is NOT about protecting GLBT officers or the community-this is more about his own agenda and keeping his name in the headlines. It is ture the LAPD has made some mistakes and things were not as "fair" as they should have been-but what job is! What place of employment is always 100%-as it should be? NO PLACE is perfect. In some cases I suspect that this former officer-who left back in the 1990's, did everything within his power to "bait" or "goat" people and the LAPD. When they made mistakes he twisted it into a lawsuit which claims he was being picked on. This officer is NOT entilted to the same benifits those who have worked all their lives for-like myself. I stayed and fought-I chose to try and change the system from within-he threw a fit and left-that was his choice. How much more will the people of this city have to withstand from this person? As a now retired gay officer I am one of those who wish he would just fade away into history and let it go-face it-he lost! The jury spoke! |
