Which ones?Firefighters, Police Officers, EMT's, and Teachers should all be paid more than they are.
Many like private school teachers don't make all that much, or have great benefits including pension plans to die for, but I also notice that many of them still do a great job and their are long lines of people willing to do their jobs at those pay rates. Tell me why anyone should pay them more, if what private school teachers already get paid, is usually enough to get the job done well?
Firefighters in many parts of the country are all volunteer, and even though they aren't as effective as full time firefighters, they do manage to keep their communities safe enough to satisfy the communities they live in. Tell me, why should they pay them if they can get enough qualified volunteers for FREE?
Police aren't anything special, and I see lots of folks who volunteered to do similar jobs in the military under far worse conditions, with much greater risk to their own lives for far less. I suspect that many would gladly do police work for far less if we let them and I suspect that most are just as well qualified to deal with police work as the police we already have. so tell me, why should we pay more?
EMT's, what's so special about them? And why should we pay more when there are dozens of qualified applicants fighting it out to get the jobs that do open up, because they think the pay is FANTASTIC? I'd say lower the pay offer until it gets hard to attract and retain the type of people who can do those jobs well.
