Lomita also has a Memorial Day Remembrance ceremony to remember the war dead. It is held at the Lomita Veteran’s Park which is at the corner of Walnut and 257th, just North of PCH. It starts at 11:00 AM, also on Monday. It is hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States Lomita Hall Post 1622 and its Auxiliaries.
There will be food and refreshments after the ceremony at the VFW Post 1622 which is at 1865 W. Lomita Blvd. in Lomita.

Have a question for the Veterans, Active duty and military experts - May one wear medals earned by other family members in various wars in honor and memory of their service? What would be the appropriate way to honor these veterans of various wars if these medals/ribbons were worn? Is there some etiquette or protocol on this?

I respect and honor my fighting men/women but come on releasing 1,500 ballons in to the Environmnet is murder to the environment and wildlife that lives in it.

Honoring one while killing another,.

Horrible!

I think that Rancho Palos Verdes should think of a better way to honor Memorial Day than releasing 1,500 balloons into the air and creating a massive amount of litter.

they addressed the issue of the balloons at the ceremony. they were latex balloons which are completely safe and natural.
too many people confuse latex with plastic

No, latex balloons DO create litter. Even if that balloon will bio-degrade in 6 months, what happens to that latex balloon if swallowed by birds or marine life? Do you really think that it's not harmful?

Or what if I shred 100 latex condoms and scatter them across your front yard? Could I claim that I didn't litter because it's "bio-degradeable"?

There are much better ways to honor the dead than by releasing latex balloons.

Mylar balloons are damaging if they hit the power lines. Latex balloons may not cause a power outage but both litter. Why not go back to homing pigeons that look like doves. Much more symbolic and the droppings can be recycled into the earth. Or 21 gun salutes followed by Taps.
