Shootings bring increased LAPD presence

A 4-month-old boy was killed and a woman and man were wounded Sunday in the most wrenching among a week of gang shootings that prompted the LAPD to send extra officers to the San Fernando Valley to try to stem the violence.

Ever feel like we should all be walking around with an M1A, vest, helmet and fatigues? The ever growing number of wet bacs and persons born here, willing to kill for fun, let alone for a few dollars cannot be contained. Maybe that's the desired environment of "CHANGE", which gives the "authorities" the excuse to put troops on every corner. Chances are the people who lives in the area where the shooting took place won't read these comments but here goes anyway.

C'mon people...do the right thing and call the LAPD annonymously - call from work, call from a pay phone three miles where you live just call the LAPD. Report the shooter. Just do it. Man up and woman up. Get those jerks outta your streets!

Somehow I have the feeling the people in this community have a fear and distrust of the police from where they came from which makes them not want to help out and cooperate with the police. That's too bad for them because if anything that type of attitude will only handicap them in the long run and the cycle of violence and fear will continue, in addition it will certainly further the reputation that the area they're in as nothing but a graffiti/unkept/messed-up/tras hy/crowded neighborhood where they don't have the slightest care of how they live.

Who would ever thought that most of the San Fernando Valley(Arleta, portions of Canoga Park, Panorama City, North Hollywood, past of Northridge, Reseda, Van Nuys/Lake Balboa/Valley Glen, Sylmar, Pacoima and North HIlls) would ever resemble places like Westlake(near downtown l.a.) Glassell Park, Cypress Park Maywood, South Gate and East L. A.? It's sad how the SFV is now looking like one big trashy trailer park.

Good luck to those people if they enjoy living in that kind of situation. Hopefully their councilperson and lapd will be of some help to them and that they make use of their assistance.

I can understand how most of you jump to conclusion/judge by a book by its cover when you read about these people of brown skin who caught in that gunfire that they must be illegal aliens(that's right illegal aliens not illegal immigrants)...are you sure they're illegal aliens?

Regardless if they illegal or not - it's terrible what happened to everyone involved and blame goes to everyone who was there.

One more thing - I understand where you are coming from, it's just tiring that illegal advocate groups demand that these lawbreakers do not pay a fine or even a tap(not a slap but a tap) on the wrist for breaking the law. Ashamed, stupid, senseless, idiots - the list goes on and on. This kind of behavior is so similiar to other cities in California that is like Van Nuys. Put a picture on a newspaper Web site of a killing(mostly latino gang killing) like in Oxnard, San Bernardino, Lancaster or L A and all we have to do is shake our heads and say that's what's happening where we live.
