I was walking my dog in august of 2003 on Ranchito near Magnolia and Hazeltine (very close to the area of this shooting) when a car full of latino gang members (read mexican) rolled up on me and pulled a .38 caliber snub nose pistol and pointed it at my chest. I managed to run away without getting shot but two blocks away they shot some other poor soul in the chest. The gang problem in the san fernando valley is completely out of control. Forget about east l.a., there are a hundred east l.a.'s right next to every "nice" L.A. suburb. remember, if you see a mexican or central american male with a shaved head, moustache, white t-shirt and baggy pants that that is not just a fashion statement. It's so when you go down to the police station to try to pick them out of a line up or give a description to police of the suspect that it's impossible for you to identify them. Everybody looks the same if you shave their heads and give them a moustache and the same clothes. The official bird for the san fernando valley should be a helicopter with it's search lights on because if you live there you'll be hearing/seeing them every night. Buy a gun, learn to use it and carry it. Sleep Tight.

The Snakepit (NoHo) resembles Tijuana more and more each day....although I heard "male armenian" on the police scanner tonight. Either way, the City of LA is balkanized, thanks to 20 years of LA City Council policy.

Gun violence or gang violence. Is Mr. Brandon Lowrey implying that it was a gun that was responsible? perhaps a visit back to journalism class might educate this moron on the difference. A gun is nothing more than a tool. It's what keeps this country free. In the wrong hands, like gangsters, it becomes a tool of destruction. Mr. Lowrey, please do the reading audience a favor and bend over backwards, grab both of your ears, and pull your head out of your @$$.

Yeah, it's gotten so that any Valley neighborhood north of the 101 is more likely than not to be a gang hellhole. Villaraigosa is doing a fantastic job for you guys.

I'm quite sure the illegal alien gangbangers did the shooting. Because this type of crime is usually, if not, almost assuredly, attributable to them. You don't have to be a lawyer or a rocket scientist to figure this out.

Tomorrow, is the DN going to have a follow up story telling us the names of the suspects, if they are gang members and whether they're illegal aliens with criminal records or not? The question applies to the victims, too, because this sure sounds like gang activity.

I want Smilin' Bill and Wendy Greuel to tell us how safe we are. I live right on the fringe of last night festivities. And before everyone cries "Latino" there are a bunch of Armenians in the North Holltywood area and they have gangs too, though the Pacoima incidents were likely Hispanic gangs.

Hey mayor. I suggest you stop this or the citizens will. This is what the right to bear arms is for. We are at war.

"LA is the safest it has been since the 1950s."

That's the claim Mayor Villaraigosa made in his "State of the City" address on April 14, 2008.(http://www.lacity.org/mayor/myrspeeches/mayor... )

If you want a reality-based Mayor, I'm your man. My name is Walter Moore, and I'm running for Mayor of L.A. right now.

I'm the author of Jamiel's Law, which would let the police deport illegal aliens in gangs BEFORE they murder someone.

If elected, the Number One budget priority will be to build the police force to a total of at least 12,500 officers -- the number Bratton says he needs to make this the safest big city in America -- rather than the Mayor's "goal" of 10,000.

Letting gangs control the streets is absolutely unacceptable.

Parents shoud be happy how they brought up these men. Probablyl were the kind of people that did not the school to punish their kid in school. How your children when they get older/old is how parents raise their children. Remember everything starts at home. Shame on you. Your children have no respect for life and possible for you neither. God has Bless me with wonderful good children, boys & girls. I was a very strict mom and did not back away for them when the tough got going. Manys thanks from them now.

Sorry, guys I don' really agree with you all the way.
1. What you reap is what you sow.
2. Everything your kids know starts at home.
3. Remember you voted on how much the system can do with your child in school.
4. Your child possibly does't not respect you or your spouse.
So how can they respect others.
5. How much Faith do you have within your heart.
6. I would not be suprise if you did not ever disciplint your child at home.
7. Your son possible lives at home, does not pay rent, but has a new BMW, Mercedes, SUV. did not graduated from school. Sleeps til noon, but he is your son for better or worse. My hat to you. You should be very proud. He is your son.

Oh, please don't blame the mayor he did not buy your son the gun, car or pick his friends. Please don't say you did not know his friends, they probably hang out at your house. If not you were not watching your kid very good. Please don't blame anyone or point fingers at others remember you someday might have your own son/grandson.
