Deputy Chief Moore is a moron. There is no such thing as an assault pistol for lions, tigers and bears! I think he watches too many Bugs Bunny cartoons!

Dang, this is some really stupid reporting. The AK fires an intermediate cartridge which is much weaker than the traditional “high powered” cartridges used in deer hunting. Using the phrase “high-powered” is obviously intended to invoke a pavlovian reaction in the reader and has no place in even semi serious journalism. In addition the FN-57 is not an “assault pistol” it is a conventional pistol that fires a .22 caliber bullet. Granted the .22 cartridge it uses is more powerful than the standard .22 LR cartridge everyone is familiar with. But it would still be considered inadequate for even small deer. Anyone who used this round for dangerous game would end up being eaten by the bear they were hunting.
I understand you don’t like guns and that you consider it your duty to insert your bias and opinion into your stories. But could you at least look like you are trying to report facts?

"Lions, tigers and BEARS????" The FN 5.7 is used on "LIONS, TIGERS and BEARS???"

This is an error in fact, and reduces your journalistic credibility to near zero.

Where do you get your information, Ms. Doyle? And do you even bother with checking this stuff out for yourself to avoid such glaring errors?

That has got to be the most retarded piece of yellow journalism I have seen in decades.

The real questions this should raise are:

1) If a DEPUTY POLICE CHIEF doesn't know enough about a simple hangdgun to be able to talk about them correctly, why is he allowed to hold any job with the police?

2) If he DOES know what he's talking about and he's just grandstanding before the media to raise scare tactics, what does that tell you about the integrity of your police administration?

I almost laughed milk through my nose when I read this story.

"You use it on large lions, tigers and bears," said LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore, commander of the Valley Bureau.

The ignorance of this officer is amusing. The round they are talking about is a sub caliber, not high caliber. You could not even use it to hunt deer it is so small. It might do great against rock chucks or ground squirrels.

Good for a laugh, but it worries me that that officer is so stupid, or maybe he knows he is lying?

You are child like and sometimes are needy of a caretaker, like many down syndrome babies.

You're saying that because the caliber is 5.7MM in diameter, that it is less powerful than a 9.0MM caliber? That doesn't make much sense because you're merely talking diameter of the bullet, which is not a resultant of "power".

"Fabrique National 57, an assault pistol used to kill big game..."

Big Game? You seriously think a 5.7mm, a highish penetration (for a handgun) but actually low stopping power round, is used against "Big Game"? Who writes this stuff? And there is no such thing as an "assault pistol". Sheesh

The Deputy Chief should do some homework before he starts quoting the uses for this FN Five Seven pistol. Anyone that would count on this particular handgun/caliber to protect them from a large lion, tiger or bear would be shredded to ribbons and eaten by said creature(s). What is a "high" caliber anyway? Sounds like something expensive doesn't it? What exactly qualifies as a high caliber as opposed to low caliber? Does Ms. Doyle mean large caliber perhaps?

What the hell is an "assault pistol"? Taking down big game with a pistol? what an idiot.
