This is the question I asked myself. Why so many broken pipes within short period of time? No earth quack either! I have no answer to that, but sure it's very strange.

...Or may be the warranty is expire! How old are those pipes? 100 years old? or more?

Oh what a surprise, very old pipes that are at the end of their usefull lives have started to break.
The only thing that surprises me is that the utility companies only plan seems to be to patch them as they break as though their going to last forever if they do that. THEIR NOT GOING TO LAST FOREVER and they know it. The truth is that their letting it become a crisis on purpose so that they can justify huge price increses for replacing pipes they should have been slowely replacing for years. It'll be an emergency, we'll have to give them the money because by the time they ask for it we'll be overwelmed with breaks, the interuptions to service, and the amount of water we loose from the breaks. I think they should fire a few of the higher officials for failing to maintain the system properly. As anyone who has ever lived in an old house or apartment knows, when pipes start leaking because their old, it never gets better and it's time to replace them before repair costs eat up all you money. Right now we're throwing away money on repairs that should have been spent to replace pipe. |

"Nicely said." |

The question of the day asks if the number of water main breaks seem "normal."
That can't be answered 'yes' or 'no'. Yes, the norm if you consider how anitquated the system is. No, not normal if the system were kept in good repair. |

The rate DWP is going it would take 100 years to patch the Los Angeles water system. Now that previous DWP GM David Freeman is running the show it will take 125 years to fix our infrastructure. This is because he is only going to be there for 6 months. GM Freeman only knows how to cut employees and budget costs to gain more for extremely costly DWP IBEW union salaries and unnecessary employee programs
Freeman says he is the Inspector General and Ratepayer Advocate. DWP PR Joe Ramallo say’s,“So far in October, there have been 18 water main breaks, including the latest on Mulholland Drive. That puts October on pace to drop sharply from September, when 44 significant breaks were reported, DWP ratepayers of Los Angeles are not going to take it any longer. We want someone appointed who is unbiased to be a Ratepayer Advocate and report to where all the money is going to fix the infrastructure. Complete transparency is needed before Los Angeles ratepayers will once again believe in and have confidence in the DWP. |
