NO, you cannot park wherever you want whenever you want!!! The ordinance says they must be 1000 FT away from any business that sells FOOD. If yoou own the restaraunt or store that is being parked in front of you are loosing business to these people who DO NOT pay TAXES and if they do they are scamming the system.

Park it 1000 FT away and you have no problems you morons! O, morons no es correcto por que eres englis...ESTUPIDOS CUCARACHAS!!!

Per the article the vendors are seeking out high school kids if across the street from Bowie High School. Students crossing the street to access the vendor. Who would be liable if the student was hit by a car? The vendor or Bowie HS? Most food vendors I've seen are downtown or construction sites. Why a high school site?

Are we in America or Mexico? Now we're making up ordinances to protect other businesses? Might as well turn completely into a socialist country, our federal government is headed that way, right... If other cities have found a way to work with vendors why can't El Paso? The city likes to come up with ordinances that make no sense just like this one without taking the public into account. City council needs to get their heads out of their asses and take the public into account when making up their Micky Mouse ordinances. I can bet my yearly salary that this ordinance was made because one of those representatives' tio, primo or cuñado was losing business to one of these mobile vendors. We have bigger issues in the city than to worry about one these honest workers parking to wait for people or too close to a restaurant. The ordinance needs to be restructured and everyone wins.

SRS- You are part of the problem. Ready to blame everyone else instead of the stupid kid that doesn't look both ways when crossing the street. Don't take me wrong either because the driver, if speeding, has a lot to do also. But I do remwmber when I was in high school back in the day we would cross the street to go eat at the Good Times store or the Bakery by Ausin and never had someone get runned over.

Where's the spirit of free enterprise? Is El Paso a one way street and does whatever it wants without taking it's population into account? Come on city council let's stop living in the Dark Ages!

If a restaurant owner feels threatened by a vendor of chips and drinks, then… Their food must not be so great.
If a restaurant has good food and good service, they have no need to worry about this and should mind their own business. Let others make a living as well…

It seems the laws are enforced on just a few select food vendors.
On any given night you can go to the Vista Quality Food Mart on North Piedras and there is an unregulated Mexican Corn vendor selling cups of corn just 10 feet from the door on the supermarket's property. At times you can find another vendor with his backpack selling knockoff dvds. At the Amigo Grocery store on Fort Blvd & Copia there is another corn hawker just right outside the store. Trek on to the Lowe's Big 8 supermarket at the corner of Copia & Montana and there is some lady trying to hawk her homemade tamales 5 ft from the store's exit.
When the sun goes down and all the City food inspectors are snuggled in their beds all these illegal food vendors come out.
Eat at your own risk.
El Paso has turned into the "New Juarez."

Is that the one across the street from Church's Chicken? Less than a 1,000 feet. Wake up city inspectors. Do your job.

So Susie Bird is surprised to hear that there is a law suit and claims that because of the lawsuit she and the rest of council (the city) can't talk to the mobile food vendors about their concerns. That is b*****T. The mayor and council can instruct their attorneys (our attorneys) to negotiate with the food venors so that an agreement can be reached that is fair to them and the public. The city is ordinace crazy. Why didn't bird, the mayor and the rest of council seek out the food vendors before coming up with their stupid ordinance. The city is being run by locos. they are so full of themselves that they expect to just sit in their offices and the people will come to them and when they do they get b*****T. When will our elected city reps learn that they need to do a much much better job of reaching ou to the people, listening to the people and then working hard to come up with viable (I said viable) solutions not more problem ordinances. stupis bird can't talk to the food vendors but she can shoot off her mouth to the times.

The El paso City Council is by no means a pro-business type of governing body. The free enterprise spirit left town or simply died the day that El Paso's idoitic voting public failed to reelect Joe Wardy. Instead they elected a do nothing failed mayor named John Crook (Mr. antibusiness himself) and the elite group of crooks, idiots, and cactus hugging representatives. Oh wait! John does promote businesses that include call centers, green jobs, music venues that feature his G-tar picking and sing, and those that purchase his crappy tasteless BBQ sauce. Hey John! How about jobs. We citizens do not care about their color, we'll take green, blue, red, purple, or any other color jobs. I'm glad that you have reached your term limits as an elected offical and please don't bother to back anybody for any political position.
