The banning of single use paper bags from being given out for free is a definitely a step in the right direction. Plastic bags are given out too freely now, with cashiers putting every thing in a bag, even single items like an apple or a banana. Given that it is assumed that most people use over 130 bags each year, it is essential that everyone starts making changes to be more environmentally conscious. The majority of the plastic bags used are not even recycled and instead sent to landfills, or worse, they wind up on beaches, roads, and sidewalks. Not to mention the thousands of blastic bags flouting in the ocean and consequentially effecting marine life.
This new law is going is the first step in making California and plastic-bag-free state.
You are right plastic and paper bags are as dangerous as guns. They should all be banned, just ask Leland lee.

The BAD part is that crazies such as Lee and the Lowenthal gang are running the State of California.

I just don't get why this is supposed to help. We use these bags for everything and recycle them until they used up. I now live in a county where they no longer give out bags and it has forced me to buy plastic trash bags which I never had to before. So this is a silly law.

Every day I pick up plastic bags in my yard, my neighbors pools, trees field with plastic bags,...

Tired of picking after irresponsible people....

I live near a Apartment complex, have complained several times over the years....called code enforcement, Fire Department, Sheriff Department...
No one wants to be responsible....

Looking for an Attorney, pay me......not going to put up with it anymore...

Care less about paper bags an a bunch of slobs that will not pick up after them selves...

Conservative Tree Hugger.

Actually, were biodegradable bags put into landfills, bacterial action would soon break them down. Of course, it is unnecessary to put them in landfills. Scientists in more advanced nations have developed corn based grocery and goods bags that can be used as mulch for hungry garden plants, or used as life sustaining food for hungry aquatic life. Scientists in more advanced nations have even developed a process whereby non-biodegradable plastic grocery and goods bags can be used to extract petroleum for use in motor vehicle and other engines. Contrast that with cotton based Lowenthal grocery and goods bags that need ever greater amounts of petroleum based fertilizer to ensure continued cotton production.

The grocery and goods bag harassment taxes are associated with the Lowenthal/Garcia gang. It is noteworthy that one of the Lowenthal gang lost her bid to become Mayor of "Liberal" Long Beach. Perhaps overtaxed decent Long Beachers are coming to their senses after all.

I don't follow the political endorsement. In what way is government regulation of how you carry groceries home from the store; not fascism? Are you saying Republicans wanted state that law, you're kidding, right?

If you believe in the freedom for shopkeepers and customers to carry home purchases, what freedom do you believe in? Why can't you shop at one store and I can go to another, why is the state involved? Am I being clueless here, or is fascism, state control of economic activity?
