Jobs are still scarce. Economy won't really be rebounding until more people are gainfully employed again in jobs that can sustain their households.

This is very interesting, but what does it have to do with small businesses on Ventura Bl.
It amazes me that people can make a living going up against the mega stores.
The rent must be astronomical on this street, plus the lack of parking space.
The best of luck to all of you. You are the back bone of this country.

Honestly...The last place in this city I have ever shopped is Ventura Blvd...I think I purchased a bicycle for the wife there about 3 years ago. The place really does not turn me on...The parking sucks and you are surrounded by the idiots that live in the hills south of there.

This article is a wonderful illustration of how resourceful Americans in the free market can, and will, make whatever changes are necessary to survive any catastrophe. It epitomizes the American spirit. What a refreshing change from hearing the media palaver about how government had to bail out a business whose high level executives could not make a go of it because they are "too big to fail." The truth is that small business owners are much more willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, and our economic future rests upon that fighting spirit. Congratulations to the Daily News for running this story. And to the business owners...you have my complete admiration. I'll stop by on my next trip to LA.

Lets wait a while before we declare success, most of the new businesses will be out of business by this time next year.

I won't shop at any of them, parking is just too hard to find and when you can find a space on the street it costs a fortune.

Drive a few miles and prices are lower, parking is available and free and you don't have to fight it out though traffic to get there.
