Here's what the Chinese plan to do:
"First is developing low-cost solar panels. Wang said the company expects to initially hire between 100 to 150 people to work on solar technology and design and hopes to grow in the coming years.
"Second is growing throughout the country. Wang said a decision will be made later on whether to start an auto assembly facility
"Third is the prospect of assembling electric-hybrid cars in the United States. If it continues to expand, the firm could employ up to 2,000 people in Los Angeles."
Now this sounds good, right?
Wrong. Looking at the first issue. With America's education platform - PRIMARILY that of Los Angeles - so far below the international norm; design and engineering will fall primarily to engineers from India or China itself. We've nobody here with the education to fill those positions.
Strike one against Sacramento and City Hall.
Looking at the second issue. The United States is huge. Nothing said that a facility will be built in Los Angeles - only that the headquarters will go there. So where will the factory be built? Where labor is cheap.
Probably Detroit.
And that bring me to the third issue. The 'up to 2000 people' employed in Los Angeles will be Management Positions filled by Phony Tony's friends who DON'T get accepted by the DWP.
In all seriousness, why is the United States still willing to do business with China? They have inferior designs, inferious quality and use banned materials (in this case it would be lead paint) in their products. Irregardless of what the Department Of Transportation (a Federal Department, by the way) mandates for safety features, money talks. And Toxic Tony is all about cash. How much you wanna bet the DWP cuts a massive break in utility fees for this deal; then passed that loss onto the average rate-payer? Win-win for Tony's Cronies. Lose-Lose for Los Angeles.
But what else can we expect from an Amnesty City run by LaRaza? A foreign business headquarters with jobs only for those who pay homage to LaRaza and nothing for the citizenry.
Don't buy in LA; not from the stores (sales taxes), not from companies headquartered there.
And I wouldn't trust this car. Not to drive, not to share the road with.
I'd rather drive a Ford. Built in America WITHOUT bail-out dollars.
God Bless America!

hehe, right. Chinese have never heard of Labor Union or ACLU. Wait until the lawsuits start, they will regret they ever set up in CA. I give them one year to pack up and move.

I'm happy to see the business moving here. This should create a lot of high-paying jobs. Just what we need right now.

Re your first point - WRONG. While there aren't many people who live in LA itself who could do those designs there are certainly pelntly who live in the LA basin. And many of them are looking for work.
Re your second point - WRONG. Solar panels, etc require a somewhat higher degree of inteligence to manufacture than putting a door on a car. You won't find that in Detroit. Maybe Seatlle but the indication from even your next point is that the plant will be here.
Re your third point - WRONG. Tony and his friends are union adzhls. There is nothing that indicates that the Chinese would even consider anyone who supports a union. Contrary to your opinion they aren't stupid.
Re your last paragraph, Ford ars are built with more Chinese parts than American. The trucks are American but the cars aren't.
In rebuttal to your rebuttal
My first point - I am right. LA city, LA basin. They're both LAUSD educated and continuing education at a California State University for the most part and would be unable to design their way out of a pizza parlour. They don't teach that kind of stuff here; why do you think industries (I work for an aerospace manufacturer, I know first hand) are bringing in people from India and Russia (our engineers are from those two nations)? Because there aren't any qualified 'home grown'. They'll still be looking for work after the 'for show' interview process is over.
My second point - I am right again. Solar panels don't require much more skill to manufacture than assembling circuit boards - ever hear of 'automation'?'Robotics'? The physical installation on your home can be done by anybody - even you - if you follow the badly 'translated from the Chinese' instructions. Referencing that my 'next point the plant would be here', nope. Read on.
My third point -'Management' is not 'Union'. Union is the worker. When one leaves the assembly line (or whatever) and gets a management job; they have to leave the union. That's the whole point of being unionized - to represent the worker in dealing with management and ownership. Or, it used to. Now union just represents union and collects dues from the worker. There would only be Management Positions located in Los Angeles, where the headquarters are going to be. A plant? Who would work there; Tony's fan base? They don't want to work, they want to scam the system. Those who DO want to work are being crowded out of Los Angeles; they'll be headed to Arizona if the posters on the other threads follow up on their threats and promises.
Nope. I'm right on those points. So as for the Chinese considering doing business with someone who supports a union? They did. They made a deal with the Midget Mayor. But that's for the headquarters; which is NOT the manufacturing plant. No union involvement there.
I was going to suggest the plant would be in Mexico; but the points made in the article said it would be in the U.S. BECAUSE Tiny Tony is so pro-union I purposely said Detroit (they could use the jobs, wouldn't you agree?) instead of L.A 'cause his handlers would NEVER make sensible business concessions. But you've got a point; Seattle's just as good, they've got skilled Boeing workers.
And in closing - I only chose Ford because they didn't buy into the government bail-out like Chevy and Chrysler did. For the record - the only Ford I own is a classic Ranchero and a classic Lincoln. I drive a Chevy; my daughter drives a Jeep. Both purchased before the economy collapsed.
Parts from wherever; they were still built in the U.S. without using imported Chinese labor, like someone else on this thread thinks they would (probably correctly; the Chinese do things this way).

Think about this, LA will welcome "with open arms" a company from a country with probably the most racist and discriminatory policies in the world, however, will slam Arizona for protecting the laws(including federal) for Americans.
Just another sign of what the liberal mindset is doing to this country.

Somehow I feel the Chinese won't take any bull from the unions!!! But the Chinese are making a mistake on locating in the City of LA (unless they can get cheap labor from the illegals, or so they think). Somehow I feel that this Chinese company will be more trouble then help for the city (again, they will not take any bull from Villar, the council members, or the unions).

Maybe we should replace our city government with Chinese contractors. LOL

You're correct that the Chinese are making a mistate. LA is NOT business friendly! It's a socialist nightmare of high taxes and endless bureaucracy.

After Mayor Unionista courts the Chinese and bribes them into putting that plant here with our tax dollars, he and the city council will be all over them like brown on brown rice to make sure they're fully unionized and paying "living wages" (read: excessive business-busting union wages).

And they'd better not put the plant in South Central where the city czars ... err, city clowncil ... in all of their Nanny State glory, has banned fast food restaurants. No Panda Express and Yoshinoya's allowed per edict of the city czars!

$40K seems like alot for this car. If numbnuts Tony V. agreed to buy a fleet (with my money) did he manage to get a fleet discount? Probably too complicated for him.

Sounds like Tony V. gave up way too much so he could do some grandstanding. On the other hand, as some others have said, those Chinese folks may not know what they are getting themselves into. Once they plant roots, they'll be just another business to be used and abused by the city bureaucracy and gimmie gimme unions.

I haven't shopped at Walmart in years. I do 99% of my shopping in Montrose, to support the local guy.

As far as China, anyone advocating them should be locked up for treason. You are the reason we are "losing" our battle with them. Slowly. On the other hand, if people got their post-WW2 pride back, remembered what being an American is all about (kicking a*s), then NUKING China is exactly what needs to be done.

If we are going to pay for solar panels, then they should be put on our roofs. That way, the DWP would not have to buy land that they don't need. Take that money and buy more panels to be installed on homes and businesses. It's a win win, we can close down coal burning plants and take thousands of homes and businesses off the grid. We would be the greenest state in the land of the free. But, that is the last thing our Mayor Failure would want. He wants our money in his pocket.
