guarantee they do more damage than plastic shopping bags. Have you been to one of many illegal alien "lay over" spots in what used to be pristine desert ecosystems? Where does THAT register on their
Outrage Meter? But by ALL means - lets completely IGNORE that, and go after plaastic bags. Talk about misdirected priorities.
Hell ya'll have had that plastic bag in Congress now for a few years and I know for sure she is not biodegradible. Why don't ya'll do something about that too while your at it.

Socialist countries have been doing this for years.

The U.S. is the last of the socialist countries to pass such laws.

To make consumers feel better about their purchases, every socialist country has included the sales tax in the shelf price of merchandise.

American liberal politicians are going to do one better. They are in the process of passing such laws, where the tax is already included in the shelf price.

AND will have you pay an additional surcharge on merchandise on top of the sales tax.

A great chunk of this money is designed to help illegal Mexicans in respective States. In other words, more free benefits for illegal Mexicans.

The Hollywood elite is pushing for this legislaton.

They already do. Paper bags are biodegradeable.

One would think that the die hard liberals that come up with these laws would think long and hard about the ramifications of such laws. First, the people hurt the most by such laws are the people least able to afford them. For low income people, the price of obtaining food will be needlessly increasing once again. They wonder why so many low income people are obese - look at the stupid laws that they pass that raise the price of groceries needlessly. It often leaves you with little choice but eating lots of refined carbs. Lawmakers have absolutely no concern for the 30% of CA households that have food budgets of approximately $150 a month. Making stores charge for single use bags is not going to stop either the stores or the majority of consumers from using them. If they want the behavior of people to change, they need to run public service announcements targeted at specific demographics that speak to them in a way that makes them feel good about changing their behavior. Air time for PSA's should be free for the government since it is an obligation of having an FCC license. Passing another law that isn't going to be enforced, it just a waste of time and tax dollars.
Air time for PSA's ARE FREE for government or any other Non-Profit Group. Hint... "That's Why They're Called Public Service Announcements." LOL!

Everyone should carry their own bags made out of heavy cloth or anything that's not disposable. It's better than plastic and paper, and merchandise won't tear a hole and break through.

So you have to take a suitcase with you to the market? Banning things seems a little unconstitutional. Plus the current bags are recyclable. CA government sucks. I heard they banned black cars b/c it takes too much energy to keep them cool.

I used to carry a reuseable bag but she got too heavy. I had to buy an electric cart so the reuseable bag could get around. The reuseable bag is also a complainer. If things aren't just right the bag becomes all ruffled and hard to function properly.
I am not sure I want a reuseable bag.

Awww. I use these to pick up dog poop. I'd support a switch to biodegradable bags though.

Me too. Perhaps there is a special state office we can go to to get funding to cover this unexpected extra expense. These law makers should think things through!!! Hopefully they won't outlaw dogs that poop.

Make the shopping bags from the same material as Edible Panties. Even different flavors.
Instead of asking a customer, "Paper or Plastic", they will ask chocolate, Strawberry or Lime?

A simple and easy solution is to bring previously used plastic and paper bags with you when you plan a trip to the market. You can easily slip the food you purchase into the bag you provide, which also is reusable on a future trip. In time you will adapt to this new activity thereby saving yourselves the added expense at the register. It takes a little forethought but not much. Keep some bags as a backup in the car for those times when you may forget to take them from the house. Change is hard- try not to struggle.

Ban the bags, but they will legalize weed. Way to go California. What a bunch of twisted priorities. At least they got Prop. 8 right.
