East Palo Alto Cop Killed

An East Palo Alto police officer, accompanied by a 14-year-old Explorer Scout on a routine ride-along, was shot to death late Saturday afternoon.

They did, apparently pretty fast too. It was something like the largest manhunt in the bay area in the last decade.

Everyone in here seems to be predispositioned with these ideas of "law" and "justice." And, as stupidly as some has put it, the real problem is the unbalanced usage of the word freedom. Or has gangbanger put it "fuking wit my business." It seems that all of you people in support of the cop are just scared of reality. The reality is that the more people the cops bust or pull over and ticket just make the cop's pockets deeper. You capatilists should know these cops act in a way to increase revenue(There real job is to PROTECT and SERVE). Secondly, who becomes a cop? A Harvard student? A preacher or a nun? Hell no. You educated people that love the cops disgust me. Pigs are just grown-ups playing the game of cops and robbers, and just like in childhood, they aren't responsible for their actions (Sean in NY and the aquittal that will soon come displays this). Cops are business owners, or anything of intellect. They are morons who like power. The idea of law is also an incredibly subjective idea. Since it is clear cops have a lukewarm IQ it is pure stupidity to allow them to dictate over the lives of the average American. Lastly, people who saw that without cops would be complete chaos are also making unrealistic and unpostulated claims. Breaking the "law" is not what people care about. If I am to break the law it is not the law that causes me fear but the punishment (jails, cop killings, etc). Therefore, creating coercion through fear. That being said, the amount of crimes on the perpetual increase shows one of three things 1. Cops suck at their job 2. Our laws are outdated and restricting or 3. The punishment isn't strict enough.
clearly, since nothing is black and white (except in cop killings) it most be all three. Cops do suck at their jobs because it is based on fear instead of the beautiful PROTECT AND SERVE. Cops also suck becuase an uneducated class has seemingly complete social control. Judge jury executioner. Our laws are outdated and in the "free" country of the United States should only involve cases of violence or economics. Smoking pot should not be illegal (especially if it is dank). Cops are far from uneducated. Maybe in Conway Arizona they are. Police officers in california undergo immense training all of the time. Most cops have bachelors, with a vast amount having masters and doctorates. I am striving to become a Police officer, I have graduated police academy and am one semester away from my BA.
Really, get a clue. Being a cop is a job where you have to think on your feet, you have to constantly be alert to everything around you, you have to act like you know the answers when you might not know them. Cops must be able to deal with everyone they come in contact with in a professional and calm demeanor. Cops must be prepared to take the life of another if it is threatening his own life or someone elses, and this reaction must be formulated within seconds or less.
It is not an easy job, it is a job that takes great mental and physical fortitude. A job that few can do. A job that thousands want and only a few can have.
To become a cop you have to pass the following:
An oral board exam, where you are interviewed by three intimidating high ranking officers in a chosen department. During this you must sell yourself, sell your confidence, sell your knowledge of police work, sell your personal life and prove to them in 30 minutes or less that you can do the job. Meanwhile there are 30 other people competing for those two open spots. If they dont like your attitude or answers, youre out.
If you pass an oral board exam, you get to go through a background process where they will talk to friends of friends of friends, and find things out about you that you dont even remember doing. If they find something they dont like about you, youre out.
If you pass that they polygraph test you/voice stress test you. Also, if you lie at this point or any other point in the testing/application you are done. A cop who is found lying is removed. A cop who can be found as a liar in court by a defense attorney is useless to a department as the attorney will bring up his history of lying.
If you pass all of that you get a conditional job offer. It doesnt stop here: you must pass a psychological exam performed by a psychologist, obviously. If they think youre a looney toon, youre done for. You also must pass a stringent medical exam. If youre prone to injury or have bad joints or a bad back, you wont make it more than five years.
After all of this, you may have a job as Police officer, and then you must uphold your integrity, ethics and courage to survive in this line of work.
