Did someone hear a sonic boom about 20 minutes ago and now I hear police cars everywhere. I called the police department and they said nothing is going on.

around 3:45am there was 3-4 HUGE explosions back to back of some kind on clarke and flower (where I live) it looked like lightning struck a transformer because power went out. it literally felt like a bomb was dropped. Very scary.. I didn't know there was more happening this morning - wonder what it is??

Did anyone else hear a strange boom sound this morning at 3:45am? Does anyone know what it was? Strange that past posts call out the same time (3:45am).

I heard it! I turned on my police scanner right away and the cops heard it too but no major calls came in about it. I'm over by Cerritos College and it was loud, and yet one of the officers said he heard it and he was on Imperial by Curtis & King. I have yet to find anything on any news site. Sure would like to know what it was.

I heard it as well, near pioneer and rosecrans. I actually just heard another one about 20 minutes ago (5:40am) but it wasn't nearly as loud as last night. Car alarms went off on my street last night. Was that the case with anyone else? Just trying to figure out how close it felt to other people.

I heard them both last night about 3:45-4:00 am and again this morning about 5:00 ish - I am in the same area. No way it could be freeway work. I haven't heard or seen any news clips about it. Strange!!

Wow it must have been pretty close to you whatever it was if it set off car alarms. It was loud over here at Alondra & Studebaker but no car alarms went off. The one this morning at 5:30ish wasn't as loud but we still heard it. So it obviously must have been from a different spot whatever it is. I can't believe there is no mention of it on the news or on news websites at all.

Heard it again at 540am and at 1:30 pm today. Unable to find where it's coming from. I'm on Norwalk and excelsior. This is the third day in a row for me. I hear them at different times.

I heard those loud booms also. Early am 2/3/2014 at 3:45 and 2/4/2014 at 5:40 am. They are a bit unsettling and annoying. Car alarms are going off, I thought it was a gas explosion the first time I heard them. But still cannot find the cause. A friend said it's from the fwy construction, I just can't imagine what work is going on to make that noise.

At those hours I don't think it's from the fwy construction. I would think there's a no noise ordinance for those hours. Very wired there are no answers for these noises.

Yeah it felt like it was right outside. We initially thought it was an earthquake. Today I met someone who told me something similar had happened a couple years ago in long beach. She said it happened weekly and she had no clue what it was until she heard something on a local radio station about the noises being caused by aircrafts entering the atmosphere. Basically, what they were hearing were sonic booms. It could be meteorites but if they created a sonic boom, I'm assuming they would be big enough to cause some damage, which we would definitely hear about. Another possibility is that the military is testing their aircrafts, which are known to cause sonic booms as well, but that's unlikely because I doubt they would be allowed to test them so close to residential areas. Whatever it is, I hope we don't hear it tonight.

Hey guys,

Boeing is near by at the airport right? Im sure it something to do with that. Im not sure if they still are but they used to test equipment for the military there. Does anyone else hear smaller booms usually around the 9:40pm time? I noticed them when I lived in long beach 6th and redondo area, but have recently moved to lakewood and hear it even louder. Anything to do with the naval weapons storage facility to the south?

I don't believe it is Boeing which use to be McDonnell Douglas. I guess mainly because I find it hard to believe they would do something that would cause that loud of a blast at a time when it is most quiet out. Mainly because most people are sleeping. The booms you hear at 9:30 to 9:45pm every night are the fireworks from Knott's Berry Farm and depending on the weather as to how loud they will sound. That has been going on for years now.
