House Dems Push Amnesty on Twitter: America's 'Doors Are Open'
15 Jul 2014

As thousands of illegal immigrant children are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, House Democrats pushed for more amnesty, guest-worker visas,$3.7 billion in funding, and more lawyers for illegal immigrant children during a Tuesday Twitter town hall on immigration.

Their message to illegal immigrants was, in the words of Rep. John Lewis (D-GA), "our doors are open."

"We are all connected. We can't just build a wall or a fence and say no more," Lewis said. "This is America. Our doors are open."

[NASA, proclaimer that global warming, er, climate change, er, climate disruption is 'settled science,' now predicts alien contact within 20 years. Are skeptics 'alien deniers?' We'll discover ETs, habitable planets with our new 'scopes

Top NASA scientists met with the space agency's head yesterday, and gave their opinion that the forthcoming generation of space telescopes are likely to mean the discovery of habitable Earth-like worlds and probably alien life - perhaps within 20 years.

"Sometime in the near future, people will be able to point to a star and say,'that star has a planet like Earth'," said Sara Seager, professor of planetary science and physics at MIT.

"Just imagine the moment, when we find potential signatures of life," concurred Matt Mountain, a top space telescope boffin. "Imagine the moment when the world wakes up and the human race realizes that its long loneliness in time and space may be over - the possibility we're no longer alone in the universe."

“I think in the next 20 years we will find out we are not alone in the universe,” said NASA astronomer Kevin Hand.

My vote goes to Corbett. He's right about the pension issue. I'd much prefer letting the oil/gas business mature to the point when then we could discuss taxation. But not now. And never give the money to education if you did tax them. It's all going to pay for pensions and raises. Just compare a local school district's budget over several years and you'l see for yourself.

Most Voters Want to Send Latest Illegal Immigrants Home ASAP
Thursday, July 17, 2014

Most voters don’t want any of the young illegal immigrants who’ve recently arrived here housed in their state and say any legislation passed by Congress to deal with the problem should focus on sending them home as soon as possible.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 59% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the primary focus of any new immigration legislation passed by Congress should be to send the young illegal immigrants back home as quickly as possible.

Just 27% say it should focus instead on making it easier for these illegal immigrants to remain in the United States. Fourteen percent (14%) are undecided.

Advocates for the illegal immigrants argue that they are flooding into the country to escape violent situations in their home countries, but just 31% of U.S. voters think they are coming here now for their own safety.

Most voters (52%) believe they are coming here for economic reasons. Seventeen percent (17%) are not sure.

Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, who last week criticized efforts to deport these illegal immigrants, is now reportedly the latest governor to tell the White House not to house any of them in his state.

Fifty-seven percent (57%) of voters disapprove of housing these illegal immigrants in their state. Only half as many (29%) approve, while 14% are undecided.

Unintended consequences: 2008 anti-trafficking law contributes to border crisis

-- It was a good idea back in 2008, in the final days of the Bush administration.

With almost no opposition, Congress passed a new law to protect immigrant children in 2008 from sex traffickers trying to bring them to the United States. It required judges to hold hearings for youngsters from countries other than neighboring Mexico and Canada, preventing them from possibly getting turned away at the border.

More than five years later, though, the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Action Act is having unintended consequences. It contributes to the surge of child migrants from Central America overwhelming the U.S. immigration system.

Now some in Congress want to change the law -- a possibility that could bring more unintended consequences

Thanks GW !

Obama isn’t doing his job. He’s waiting for history to recognize his greatness.
July 4, 2014

Barack Obama doesn’t seem to care about his unpopularity, or the decisions he’s made that have not turned out well. He doesn’t seem concerned.

A guess at the reason: He thinks he is right about his essential policies. He is steering the world toward not relying on America. He is steering America toward greater dependence on and allegiance to government. He is creating a more federally controlled, Washington-centric nation that is run and organized by progressives.

He thinks he’s done his work, set America on a leftward course, and though his poll numbers are down now, history will look back on him and see him as heroic, realistic, using his phone and pen each day in spite of unprecedented resistance.

He is Lincoln, scorned in his time but loved by history.

He thinks he is in line with the arc of history, that America, for all its stops and starts, for all the recent Supreme Court rulings, has embarked in the long term on governmental and cultural progressivism.

Thus in time history will have the wisdom to look back and see him for what he really was: the great one who took every sling and arrow, who endured rising unpopularity, the first black president and the only one made to suffer like this.

That’s what he’s doing by running out the clock: He’s waiting for history to get its act together and see his true size.

and how many of those poor starving children did you take in? None you say? Why am I not surprised? Only a liberal would use starving children to promote their political agenda.
