Obamacare working? Uninsured rate lowest in years, poll finds

In what may be a sign that the central aim of the Affordable Care Act is working, a new Gallup survey finds that the percentage of Americans without health insurance is on track to reach its lowest quarterly rate since 2008.

The uninsured rate has fallen to 15.9 percent, Gallup reports, after conducting 28,000 interviews with Americans from Jan. 2-Feb. 28. By comparison, the uninsured rate in the fourth quarter of 2013 was 17.1 percent. If accurate, that translates to a difference of about 2.5 million adult Americans. The survey's margin of error was one percent.

The survey shows that the uninsured rate has dropped for almost every major demographic group so far this year. The rate has fallen the most -- 2.8 percent, to 27.9 percent -- among uninsured Americans with an annual household income of less than $36,000 a year. Hispanics remain the subgroup most likely to be uninsured, at the rate of 37.9 percent.

Conservatives Shocked Obamacare Is Working Like It's Designed To
A new line of bad Obamacare news made the rounds in conservative circles this week: One insurance company, Humana, said it could receive up to $450 million in 2014 through the various provisions in the law that were designed to help insurers make the transition to its reforms.
It was picked up by Scott Gottlieb, a resident fellow at the conservative American Enterprise Institute, who wrote about the report for Forbes. He cited Humana executives who said that the Obamacare "bailout" -- as Republicans have dubbed those provisions -- would cost up to $450 million to cover their company.
His report was soon referenced by National Review Online, HotAir, NewsMax and others -- many of whom noted that this huge bailout was for "just one insurer." It sounds, when you put it like that, like another health care disaster for the White House.
(To be fair, mainstream outlets like Reuters also picked up the news, but they refrained from using the word "bailout.")
As is often the case, the whole story is a bit more complicated. For starters, these so-called "bailouts" are provisions very intentionally included in the law. The three R's as they're known -- risk adjustment, reinsurance and risk corridors -- work differently but achieve the same goal: making sure insurance companies don't lose too much money on new Obamacare enrollees, which should prevent any huge premiums next year and onward.
To put it simply: An insurance company receiving money through those programs is just the law working as it's supposed to. And, the way the programs are designed, some companies could end up paying money to the government if they perform better than expected.

Are you seriously claiming that schools in black neighborhoods are equal to those in rural areas or white neighborhoods? Why do the black kids in the white neighborhoods do so well? Another coincidence?

‘Feminist studies’ prof accused of physically assaulting 16-year-old girl for opposing abortion
03/12/2014

I’m not a big fan of these types of graphic pro-life signs, but the fact remains that they show the reality of the matter. That’s why they drive abortion enthusiasts, like the delightfully hyphenated Mireille Miller-Young, completely out of their minds. The anti-baby crowd can’t handle the reality of the policies they espouse, so they try to stifle it.
...
Allegedly, Miller-Young pushed and scratched Short, but it remains to be seen what the video shows. Seems to me that running around yelling “Tear down that sign!” would be a firing offense all by itself, but that’s why I don’t work in academia.

Also, Miller-Young is black and Short is white, so this whole story is racist. Why are you a racist, you misogynist?

Remember that UCSB professor who stole an anti-abortion activist’s sign and assaulted her?[Video]
03/14/2014

I told you about this the other day. In the following video, the African-American woman is Mireille Miller-Young, a “feminist studies” professor at the University of California Santa Barbara. The voice behind the camera is Thrin Short, a 16-year-old pro-life activist whose sign Miller-Young has just stolen. You can hear Thrin’s sister Joan, a fellow activist, calling the campus police to report the theft as they follow Miller-Young to an elevator.

Then it gets really nasty.

We spend drastically less on them. They tend to have little or no arts programs. They have, by far, the worst teachers in any district.

The persistent and sympathetic failings of Wile E. Obama

Americans seem to think that President Obama is generally a nice guy, but not particularly capable. A January Associated Press Poll reported the president’s personal image to be positive with almost 60 percent of people seeing him as very or somewhat likable. Yet, his job approval has ticked down to almost 40 percent.
His recent announcement to work outside of Congress, foreign policy floundering and rather embarrassing public appearances (Between the Ferns is just painful to watch) have resulted less in scorn for the president, than a fairly sympathetic embarrassment for the man.
Mr. Obama’s dogged yet inept efforts bring to mind the similar persistent and sympathetic failings of Wile E. Coyote, the lovable cartoon character that continually applied absurdly complex and elaborate plans, without success. Both act with a dignified and implicit acknowledgement of their own genius.
There is a common audacity which instills a confidence — later proven to be less than fully justified – that makes the audience like them, even when the ultimate goal of the efforts – eating the Road Runner or the ACA – are unpleasant.
The plans of both are drawn out in elaborate detail and there is a certain initial, common acceptance that this idea seems to make sense. The rocket powered roller skates could – like affordable care – conceivably work as planned, if every single predicate assumption was correct and there were no other external factors that could otherwise influence the brilliance of the plan.

Hahaha. These dumb tea baggers will never understand comedy (Between Two Ferns) or style (Nice glasses Rick. Is that a groundhog on your head, Rand?). Its so sad because they always wonder why they're all 68, white, male on at least two entitlement programs and can't get "the young vote."

Nasty are the lies and pictures those children were peddling. But they should learn that their ignorant message will never fly on a place like a college campus. They need to stick to teabag rallies and churches where their audience is as dumb as they are.

Sure. But the problems in the inner city come from poverty, not skin color. Do we blame the pupils when rural schools fail?

Sorry but the 16 yr old girl was standing up for life. If pictures of abortion disturbs you, maybe you should rethink your position.

I bet you celebrate Maggie Day with all the other delusional left wing morons. Margaret Sanger loved tools like you.

So then, how would you suggest we deal with generational dropping outta school, leading to generational inability or refusal to work?
